NeverwinterConnections.com is an attempt to bring order to chaos.
When Neverwinter Night's was first announced, we saw a need to have
a match making service beyond the typical ones used in other popular
games. To be able to search for a game and see how many PLAYERS was in
it just was not enough.
We are avid Dungeons & Dragon players and all
belong to the RPGA (Role Playing Game Association), we enjoy the aspect
of going beyond the numbers and actually taking on the make believe
roles of our PCs. However, in modern computer role playing games,
there really is no mechanism to bring that "human" side to the game.
We saw Neverwinter Nights as an opportunity to bring the human side to the
game. However, there was one obstacle. How to find like-minded PLAYERS
and how to find quality judges. How well do you think popular match
making software will work when trying to find a Neverwinter Nights game?
How do you know how good a DM is and what is the DM's style? How do you
know how well constructed an adventure is? How many DM's out there want to
allow people to join in the middle of game? These are all questions we asked
ourselves before ever laying finger to keyboard. We wanted to be able to find
good quality games quickly and easily. So we created this site to fill that gap.
We instantly saw that we needed the ability to find like-minded PLAYERS to
share our adventures with. However, we also realize, that all gaming styles
are valid, not just ours. In a traditional matchmaking service, you cannot
tell what sort of game you are about to participate in. So we had to create
something new!
We almost stopped designing when we heard that Bioware had decided to take
the task on themselves. Months before the announcement we saw (I think it was
Trent Oster) a member of Bioware state that they were looking forward to a
community site created that handled the matchmaking. That really fired us up,
however, we weren't ready yet to show it to anyone, so we didn't bother telling
anyone of it's existence. Luckily we decided to push forward and complete the site.
