You can't create your own armor while creating your character, but you can do this before the game.

If you take a peak into your NWN directory (default on most computers is C:\NeverwinterNights\NWN), you'll see a program called nwtoolset. Open that up.

From there, things get tricky pretty fast, but if you poke around Bioware's Official site or the Vault (http://nwvault.ign.com/index2.shtml), you should be able to find some tutorials (don't have the specific links for them).

The best plan for now is to select "Create New Module," then follow the series of steps that'll appear on the screen. By the end of this, you should have created 1 area, the name of which will be listed in the column on the left-hand side of the screen. Double click its name in that column to see the area.

Now, off to the right, you'll see a tiny icon that looks like a red area with a blue circle. Click the icon, then move your mouse over the area display. Click anywhere in the area. That little circle is where a character, when starting this module, would appear in the beginning.

Finally, creating custom equipment. The fun part, IMO. Press Shift+Control+I. This opens up the item creator. Just follow the screens and play with it for a while until you create something you enjoy.

Along the way, the game will ask you where you want the item saved. You'll see a long list of options such as "armor," "custom," "weapons," etc., many of which have sub menus when you click on them. Where you save it doesn't matter, but remember where you put it.

After creating the item, you'll need to be able to access it in game. To do that, look to the icons to the right-side of the screen. Click on the sword. Beneath the icon, you should see the words "Standard" and "Custom." Click on custom.

Remember that set of menus from two steps ago? You'll see it again. Head for the menu where you saved your item and then click on the item. Now, move your cursor over your area. Click somewhere on the ground.

After all of that, save the module. Then, start NWN normally with a new game. But, when it comes time to choose what game to play, click on "Custom Modules" or "Other Modules" (can't remember what it's exactly called off the top of my head) at the bottom of the menu. This will show you other modules that weren't created as part of a Bioware campaign. The module you created should be listed. Select that. When you enter, you'll be standing where you placed that blue circle (though you won't see this in the game, of course). If you look around on the ground, you should see your item. Click on it to pick it up, open the options menu (default is pressing 'O' or Escape), click on "Save Character," and you're done.

I know that sounds like a LOT, and I suppose it might be. But, in reality, it doesn't take much time. The navigation to the whole process looks a lot more intimidating than it really is. And, if you have any hang-ups in the progress, just repost, and either I, or somebody else who gets here first, will help.

I just wish I could post a few screenshots to help you out.
