They're bit rabbit-like for my taste, but hey, it's still a major upgrade from NWN. http://media.pc.ign.com/media/674/674385/img_3932586.html http://media.pc.ign.com/media/674/674385/img_3932587.html The gnomes look better in NWN2 from what I've seen in screenshots, but personally I've always liked halflings a lot better than gnomes anyway (don't think I've ever played a gnome). But at least they no longer look like ape-elves or whatever. I wonder how many face and hair options there are for each races. With all the new customization on character appearances, I think first sessions may have to be extra long just so the players can generate their PCs at their own leisure. I for one take a while as it is to make a PC, now when NWN2 comes out its going to take me ages to make my PCs, given all the new options. It'll be interesting with all the Prestige Classes now, since apparently you can have up to 3, unless you have more than 1 base class. Either way, base class and/or Prestige, you can have up to 4 class types in total. I also think wild elves and half-orcs are bit strange when compared to one another, since they both get a +2 str, and both get a minus to int and cha, if I remember correctly. I would have thought half-orcs would have more like +4 to str because they're large and muscular builds and wood elves not be less intelligent, but that's just what I think. Anyhow, your thoughts on any of this?

Thanks for the screen caps. When I read the subject line, I thought they would be like those crazy WoW night elf goalpost-ears. But I think they are fine, I like 'em. I read that they used the players handbook as source material and I think it really shows, for better and worse.

No, I meant night elves- the World of Warcraft version of elves. The have ginormous ears that look like weird tubers stuck to their heads.

The female halfling looks like she's wearing the William Shatner mask that the dude wore in Halloween. No wonder the male halfling has such a sourpuss expression.

| I play WoW a fair bit and I always want to hang my coat on those ears. I was afraid that the gaming world might follow that lead... |
| And just check out those eyebrows! http://www.blizzard.com/wow/screenshot.aspx?ImageIndex=8&Set=34 |
| *grins* Those are beta night elves; the eyebrows have gotten slightly less prominent. But WoW's art is a different style- cartoonish rather than realistic.

*grin* Well, there's attempting to make things look like they could be real, and then there's making no effort whatsoever in that direction. Ears that could wave planes in for landing and eyebrows that alter global wind patterns when raised are making no effort, though it's charming in its own way.

Let's summarize the strange things, at least from my own point of view: * Halflings don't look childish. Faces aren't exactly cute. * Gnomes have good noses, but they're still not pointy and long enough to be called gnomish. Didn't see any heads with mustaches and goatees. * Aside from the Sun Elves, humans and perhaps Moon elves, I've not seen a single woman face that actually looks normal. It's hard to explain why, but it seems they lack real feminine features. * Drow elves do look cute. Too cute. Female faces seem almost decent, but shouldn't they be seductively beautiful? those faces are like regular elven ones, or even worse. * Duerger have hair when the description says they're bald... *Aasimar has a strange glow, but it looks more reddish than white. * Half orcs have a strange "upgraded" jaw that is not too clear. Face is ugly, but strangely enough, half-orc women look only half-ugly! * Elves have a stronger ear curve, making their ears look less elegant. This could be considered good by some, but some ears just look, indeed, goblin/orc-like. * You can't change the body phenotype and size at all, except perhaps by using the toolset. The fact you can't be fatter or thinner isn't good for variety, especially without 2D portraits for recognition. To sum my thoughts up... 3D faces for fantasy by a team that never did this before is a bit of an overkill. We're going to have to stand those things 'till Neverwinter Nights 3.

I have to agree the examples given of the halflings isn't all that promising, but it is just 1 example of each gender, so I'm pretty sure there opportunity for nicer variations. Gnomes look good. Half-orcs look good, no complaints there. Dwarves look good too. Humans are pretty good, but I don't like the horns on the tieflings. Maybe these pics are quite old, cos the horns just don't look finished in these examples. And as for most of the elves, the males look alright, the drow looks good, but most of the females look a bit err. The sun elf looks horrible and the moon elf isn't all that great either, they lack flesh on the cheeks I think, they look under-fed, in my opinion. The concept art is nicer than the character generation examples provided (although it's only really of NPCs or elves : http://nwvault.ign.com/screenshots/?category_select_id=subcat_23 A more drow-looking, err, drow (and cool haircut). http://nwvault.ign.com/screenshots/full_res.php?ss=1361 Moon elves. http://nwvault.ign.com/screenshots/full_res.php?ss=1366 http://nwvault.ign.com/screenshots/full_res.php?ss=1368 Sun elves. http://nwvault.ign.com/screenshots/full_res.php?ss=1373 http://nwvault.ign.com/screenshots/full_res.php?ss=1374 http://nwvault.ign.com/screenshots/full_res.php?ss=1375 A male (sun) elf. http://nwvault.ign.com/screenshots/full_res.php?ss=1376 And finally, wood elves. http://nwvault.ign.com/screenshots/full_res.php?ss=1378 http://nwvault.ign.com/screenshots/full_res.php?ss=1379 http://nwvault.ign.com/screenshots/full_res.php?ss=1380

The wood elves especially look pretty silly. They don't look "savage" at all. They look like all the others with just different hair/skin color.

Very nice concept art. I'm not crazy about what I've seen so far for what characters will look like in-game, but sometimes these things need to be in motion for fair judgement D:

Does anyone else find it irritating how elven-rabbit ears (and tiefling ears) stick through hats and hoods? And while I'm complaining about the clipping, the short spikey hairdo for females is missing some rendering, it's the left side where there's an transparent patch in the hair and it keeps showing during conversations. And the hairdo with chopsticks, only a slight flaw but while I'm meantioning these things, the fringe clips through the forehead of halflings a little. And headbands clip with certain hairstyles and especially fringes. But hey, it's those ears that bother me, they stick out through hoods and hats. If you get a hat with ear holes in it, chances are it belonged to an elf. I'm not trying to bag the game, just saying there are some things that could be improved.
