I have several friends that are totally addicted to Avlis. They think it's the absolute shiznit! Huge world; No scripted quests. Strong economy and good custom craft scripts. I agree though, the question should be more about play style. Avlis for example seems very heavy RP. My buddy said he didn't kill anything until 7th level. Some folks wouldn't like that (seems a bit boring to me...). Anywho... my two coppers worth. BtD.

I used to really enjoy Avlis it's been about six months or so since I've been on, the last time I tried I found there was a new Hakpak I needed to download and never got around to it. It seemed the best of the PW's I've encountered. I was Fofur Ironhelm by the way, if I happened to adventure with any of you.

My PW experiences have been a letdown so far. My major time investment, Crimson Spire, has a very high RP and code standard but is marked by board squabbles. What made me quit was the lack of focus on characters and stories as opposed to simulationism - and I suppose that is a problem I'd have on most PW's. However, Crimson Spire was a an experience and I'd recommend it to people who like to rough it out in an unforgiving world. Just don't try to be a part of the system - adventurers are forever maked as outsiders.

I really enjoyed playing on Crimsonspire, though due to my RL schedule, I'm taking a break. It's an RP focused PW, with a focus on intra-PC roleplay outside of campaigns. There are no canned quests that advance the story, but the DMs and players are very involved in giving a sense of a living, responsive world. Crimsonspire is however designed with a simulationist bent that is aimed towards keeping PW involvment high. It's a formula that works and most evenings you'll find a great group of players in character. The roleplaying community is fantastic, but if you only a play a very short time a week, as I did, be prepared to spend a considerable percentage of play time dealing with time consuming game mechanics such as food, water, rest restrictions, custom wounding and healing, roleplaying leveling, etc. As for the forums Starfox mentions, they are also an active part of the Crimsonspire community, which in my experience is very welcoming. (Rather than start a new thread, I am resurrecting an older one. - JD) I'd like to know if there are any good PWs that that don't require the expansions (SoU, HotU, CEP)? Thanks!!

I agree with J'Dai. I was looking for an online PW game for quite some time...and yet haven't found anything worthwhile. If I do find something I have to; a: download something (*more on this in a minute) b: play at 1st level c: I'm surrounded by players with really powerful characters with my 1st level PC (not that I have a problem with those who have obviously put in a lot of time...it's just like brining a dagger onto a battlefield filled with tanks and nuclear weapons) ... I'm sure there's more I'm forgetting... I have NWN and both of it's expansions, and personally I think that should be enough. I did download the "PrC Module Updater", but only because I like PrCs and the options they give. I know some DM's want to have "their own creations" in "their games" (such as making the naked body look like how they think it should look...or adding in detail work to make the game "look" like how they wanted it...for example), but nearly all my searches have been in vein. I wouldn't mind finding a game now, as long as it doesn't get in the way of real life. Thanks for listening to my rant -M

Glorwing has seemed pretty cool from what little I've seen of it.

The best experience so far for me has been Blackdagger: The World of Avlis. http://www.avlis.org Mature playerbase, heavy emphasis on roleplay, spanning 6 servers and linked to several other PW's, such as Hala and Abyss404. Lotta custom content, completely original game world with history as well.

I looked around for a while, and the best hack-n-slash PW I found was the Gemstone server. Their website is http://members.aol.com/gemstonenwn/index.html?f=fs, and the server address is 24.20.83.181. It's built for combat, and the available quests are all of the "slay the baddies and retrieve the loot" type. At any given time, you can find characters online ranging from 1st to 30+. Hundreds of areas offer players of all levels a little variety. For what it is, it's a good PW. Don't go there looking for RP, though.

Well I've played in many PWs and the two best IMHO are Haze and Toril. Both are low level, permanent death, challenging, mature and very RP heavy servers.

Well, I don't know if it is "the best", but our new PW - Moonshae Nights - certainly has a lot to offer. The server is found under Gamespy's "action" area, and is based on the Forgotten Realms Moonshae Isles. In order to be accessible to all, we have not used any Haks or the CEP. We try to strike a balance between role play and action, and have so many unique aspects it would take forever to list (such as an opt in / opt out PvP system based on the color you wear). Give us a visit at Moonshae Nights. DM Zen

I've played this the past two nights and I am really enjoying it. Not too much fluff, and plenty to do without getting in over my head. I'm currently playing a Cleric of Tyr (Ander Reynolt). When I made him I thought I was making a PC for the Cormyr server (which I had looked at right before I logged on to Moonshae). Anyway... I'm on M-Th from 6p-12a EST. And I usually pop on Sat from time to time. take care -Scott (aka Marcus Greycastle of Silverymoon)
