Thanks Giluan.

Is there a way the community members can help with the financial support for hosting? I'd be more than happy to make a monthly contribution via PayPal.

Cheers
AV

PS: Sound out a monthly toot

I appreciate your kind offers very much.

It was not my intent to turn this into any kind of a fund drive. I also wasn't looking for recognition (as nice as that is.) I just wanted to make the statement that I intended to keep things running as long as there is enough interest. And hopefully to put to rest the idea that the site may be running completely on autopilot.

I'm glad this is a place that still provides value.

You are absolutely deserving - and worth! - every word of praise and other offers of support. If there is anything we can do to repay your kindness, you only need to ask.

I know I would have departed the site long ago if you weren't here to keep the lights on.

Thank you very much, Gilaun. I truly do appreciate it.

I take it, then, that none of my monthly subscription payment is making its way to paying for the server upkeep? That's ... disappointing.

Dellaster,

The money that has been donated has paid for new hardware. The purchase of the SQL server and the Web server as well as Harddrives and memory where assisted by those donations.

Those servers have been handling the load with very little sustained CPU time, so our hardware needs have been minimal of late. I have access to what money is there if I need to purchase something.

I have ownership in an ISP/Hosting company. The servers are located at my facilities, and the bandwidth is provided by my company. I haven't taken funds to cover the monthly costs mainly because we didn't expect to make any money off of the site. And if I took a monthly it would drain what is there and leave us in a bind if we needed to purchase new hardware.

We just recognized the potential early on for NWN and wanted to be involved. I donate the space and bandwidth because it is a cost I can obsorb without discomfort, and if I didn't we wouldn't be able to keep the site online without exposing you all to ads everywhere you looked. Even then I don't think it would be enough. Our community is awsome, but not huge.
