NWN Single Player Mods

Once again, NWN2 is refusing to run on my comp unless I reinstall and update all over again, so I've decided to play some more NWN single-player games instead. Anyways, I'm bored waiting for this to download (taking ages):

But considering all the reviews and score and all that I'm looking forward to playing it. Looks cool.

And I was wondering, while I'm at it, does anyone has any recommended NWN mods for single-player?

Heh, if knew anything about scripting I'd try to make a single-player mod with the new D20 system, but I don't so I won't. Plus I don't really have the time for it.

Purple - I LOVED DoD. Really felt like good ol' Baldur's Gate - I just missed Minsc and Boo. There are those who would disagree with me, but I found DoD to be the BEST 'epic' scale SP NWN module I've ever played. One warning, though - and it would be my big issue - they had to PULL it as a Premium module, so when they did, they had to cut out a lot of the ending, I think. Thus, the ending is a bit disappointing, IMHO. Still well w orth playing.

I played DoD three times in a row. It's like a good version of the NWN2 OC. In fact it was so good I may just have to buy Wyvern's Crown. It's too bad they aren't designed for multiplayer.

Can't believe the Gagne mods weren't on that list. All of them are good. Also, Exile of the West and The Bastard of Kosigan have been translated into English, and are quite good. If you like playing rogues there are quite a few good SP rogue mods out there, and Bone Kenning was excellent though it may be broken if you play it on an upgraded version of the game.

There's a reason I haven't bought any computer games except NWN2, and NWN1 expansions, since I bought NWN1.

WCoC can be played mp, but it requires use of the consle to jump players. DoD was a great mod, but I have to agree with FW, that it seems the ending was cut a bit short. It's a shame it was pulled, because I think it would have been worth the money to purchase it.

As for the ones mentioned in that thread, I have to give a nod to the Shadowlords/Dreamcatcher campaign and An Ancient Heart, even though the later isn't finished (I think there's only 2 of a planned triology available for download). Pool of Radience is pretty good, but it's large and will require a lot of running just to get anywhere: most of the areas are 12x12 or larger. If you have the patience for it, it's a good mod.

Well I'm forced to poke my nose in to the General Forum to recommend the Hex Coda:
http://nwvault.ign.com/View.php?view=Modules.Detail&id=4078

This is, practically without a doubt, the best singleplayer module I've ever played. The storyline is excellently told and intriguing, the setting fleshed-out and detailed without being a slog to understand (and more importantly, highly original - at least for NWN), the characters are sublime on occasion, and brilliant pretty much the rest of the time. I have to say that this must be one of the crowning achievements of NWN singleplayer to date.

Aside from the Hex Coda, Gagne's earlier Penultima series are a good laugh, with clever storylines, and great characters. Strangely though, I never liked his Elegia modules.

I'd also recommend Red Moon Rising:
http://nwvault.ign.com/View.php?view=Modules.Detail&id=4886

It's more traditional fantasy than Gagne's work, but very much an involving storyline and a well-made module.

Aside from that, I've been a little disappointed with a lot of NWN's singleplayer output. Some of it is very good - but there's a distinct lack of notably original storylines out there. (I hear the Bastard of Kosigan series is very good though - however, I've yet to try it.)

Cheers,

Well if you really want original you should try A Dance With Rogues, though it's quite a gender bender as it's written for women as a romance novel version of D&D. Still, it's very good, and very original. The ladies have certainly had to put up with all the "guy only" dialogue for a long time, seems only fair.
