[OT] WoW question

Anyone still playing World of Warcraft? My kids recently got into it and have sucked me in a bit. I know there was once a WoW thread on these boards with a fair amount of information - anyone able to locate it? I don't think NWC has a search function for the forums...

Also, for those playing WoW currently, any servers where there is some focus on RP and maybe more emphasis on grouping up L1-20 than you see on the typical "realm"? I realize this is not something to be expected in WoW, but would love to find an RP/PvP server where you can get a fair amount of interaction even before getting to the high levels/raids/etc.

Would this not be more likely to get a response on a WOW forum instead of a NWN forum? Looks way off topic here.

Sorry can't help.

Not my game anyway.

I played on a RP server for about a year, and in my opinion, the only way to get any group interaction worth the time in World of Warcraft is to join a good guild (and there are plenty of bad ones) and play at least eight hours a day until you get 'known'.

If you're a NWN player, then you'll be disappointed at what you find. I know I was.

Yes, I still play regularly.

And, no, good RP has never come about, in my experiences. I doubt it's really even possible.

I like WoW and I like NWN for different reasons. I think I can handle both without serious repercussions. I do play on a PvE realm so there is VERY little, if any, role-playing there. There are RP realms.

Check the WoW official website for which realms are which. Variety is the spice of life. Too much of anything can be boring after awhile, at least to me.

NWN gives me the opportunity to RP with excellent players. WoW lets me ravage the countryside with my faithful companion animal as backup. Yes, you can have two loves and still be faithful to each.

well... if ever there was a guy trying to find RP in WoW, its probably me.

I've tried regular groups (a bit like a NWN's campaign) several times - never hit level 30 with any of them, but they were quite fun while they lasted.

I've been in more "RP guilds" than I would care to count, and left most in frustration.

Currently, I'd recommend Kirin Tor for a server - RP Paradise is my "current guild". LOL.. basically, I've lowered my standards for RP levels quite a lot, and have found this group very friendly, over all there's enough RP'ers involved to make it fun (but expect plenty of OOC conversation - though recently they switched the guild channel to IC only) There's usually plenty of folks online below level 30 (a rarity in my books!) so there's lots of folks to quest with.

Also on Kirin Tor is an RPGnet guild. believe they're called Pig and Whistle Society. I have a character in there, but don't play it much. Their website is here: http://wiki.rpg.net/index.php/Pig_and_Whistle_Society

Hope this helps, feel free to PM me for more.

Conor

Just to clarify, Pig & Whistle is on the Alliance side. Blacksky Company is the RPGnet guild on the Horde side.

There are plenty of members represented at the RPGnet Forums. They are a good bunch so feel free to saunter over and say HI to the crew.

EDIT: Ew, typos!

Hey, thanks for the info, guys, appreciate it.

Not really expecting traditional NWN RP, just something a bit less like an online communication channel for 12 year olds.

I may check it out over the weekend - thanks again!

Hey Chiz,

This might be the thread you were thinking of, hiding in LB's forums:

http://www.neverwinterconnections.com/forums/index.cfm/fuseaction/viewmessages/id/15946/guildid/0.htm

I was looking pretty closely at getting into WoW myself just a month or so ago, following my long-established trend of being several years late to anything popular. It does look like a lot of fun, but ultimately I didn't feel like I would be able to play enough to justify the monthly fee. But that's just me, and there are several counter-opinions in this thread adn that one.

Forget WoW. Lord of the Rings Online is here it's at. It's like WoW with a story and no forced PvP.

Heck there's even questions that require you to deliver pies from one corner of the shire to another while avoiding hungry hobbits. Seriously.

Also, you get to do quests for Strider and Gandolph. If anyone is playing or is interested hit me up. I was in WoW for about 2 years after launch and got bored of the level cap. LOTRO is great.

Now back to your regularly scheduled broadcast.

You won't find decent roleplay there without searching. I met a handful of really good people in my months but the majority aren't.

Thanks for the updates and comments, guys.

I've come to the same spot most of you are at - there is no NWC-style RP that will be found playing WoW. No chance of effecting change in the world. NWN NWC-style and WoW are in fact two different things.

WoW is fun in its own way, so now I'm mostly looking for a server/guild where there is a reasonably large, casual player friendly population happy to group up not just for instances/raids but even for quests. There are plenty of quests that are challenging to do alone, which become fun as part of a small group. I only get to play 6-10 hours a week and am still mostly focused on my L23 rogue on Fenris, but have rolled up an Undead warlock on Kirin Tor and will give that a try as well.

Has anyone tried the RP/PvP realms?

SB, good to hear from you. LotRO sounds good, but I can't handle 3 games at once, so it will have to wait until I get tired of WoW or (unlikely) NWN/NWN2?
