Dungeon and Dragon game

Hello,
I played a game on my playstation quite a few years ago. It had to do with leading groups of soldiers, an army, against other armies. The enemy had orcs and goblins and stuff. Whereas I was able to recruit dwarves, mercenaries, archers, knights, etc. I am pretty sure it had Dungeons and Dragons on the cover, however, since I can't seem to locate it anywhere, maybe it didn't.
Anyway, I was thinking about it and thought I might give it another go.

Can anyone remember what the title of the game was? And which consoles it was available on?

Dunno about playstation games, but you might check out Home of the Underdog for OOP games for the the PC. Quite a few old fun classics to be had there

It sounds like "Blood & Magic" but I'm not sure. I do remember playing a game called "Fantasy Empires", not sure if it was ported to console. Also a game called "Stronghold" was an RTS.

A title that looks interesting for the Playstation Portable is "Dungeons & Dragons Tactics". If your into turn-based strategy games. It's due out sometime this year.

I played blood and magic, that's not it.

It involved hiring groups of mercenaries to create an army. You had a couple of heroes, but it was like playing Kessen. You told the various groups where to go and who to fight. Nothing up close and personal, it was like being a general in an army issueing orders.

I thought it was tough, but cool. Thought I might find it in a bargain bin, however, I can't even find it's name on line at the moment.

Thanks for the help guys, Still looking though.

I remember two D&D based PC games from the 90’s that could be what you are looking for Fantasy Empires or Birthright: Gorgon’s Alliance.

I'll third the Fantasy Empires suggestion - head over to Home of the Underdogs and you can download it, from what I recall seeing. You could check if it's the one you were looking for.

It was a pretty cool concept back in the day, though with some serious flaws - probably pretty aged on today's machines.

Never got a chance to check out Gorgon, though I remember it coming out.

Now, the Dragonlance PC games were VERY cool...in particular, the first one covering Xak Xsaroth (sp?).

You know, to me that game sounded like Warhammer: Shadow of the Horned Rat.

WooHoo.
That was it, 'Warhammer: Shadow of the Horned Rat'.
To bad the rating is not so good for this playstation game. However, I am determined to give it a go once more.

Thanks to all who have tried to answer my riddle, most of all, thank you Smart Alec.

Ps, the Dragon Lance games are the best, I love that turn based combat.

Ahh, there's something quite appealing about going back to old games after a few years, once you get over the hassle of getting the things to work and the fact that the graphics are dreadful, there's a certain charm about the oldies that you've played before.

...I have never before heard of this particular game, I just felt like commenting on old games in general.

If you're down with turn-based combat, you might want to check out this game:

http://www.atari.com/danddtactics/US/

It's scheduled to ship in a few weeks, and from what I've seen it looks suprisingly good. The only drawback is that it's only available for the PSP.

Edit - Doh! I saw that Lion has already mentioned this...

Oh nice. I might have to pick that up. If you don't have a PSP yet, get one! They're great little machines.
