Torrin stepped out of the darkness of the Duke's castle and into the bright light of Camar, the sun glittering off of his battle dress (chain mail). He breathed deeply and threw his shoulders back in a long stretch. Exhaling, he looked over at the temple of the Shinning Father in reverence, wondering if this was the last time he would see it and if he would gaze upon her beauty again. He shook his head ruefully, such thoughts were for a younger man's fancy and he had his duties to perform. Still... Thrusting that thought away, he turned around and waited for the others to join him before leading them into the city proper for suppling. He looked up at the sky and silently prayed for guidance.

I didn't know where to put Seaguard (north or south) Oki filmed the map and transferred the map to the computer; but Chancillor Idar didn't point out Seaguard or any other points of interest, so I didn't include any others. I'm just including what I know for sure for now. I want to go with what you reveal over time like everyone else.

Phil had many things knocking around in his small brain. Keep "Double A" away from the women and try not to cut off my ear with the large pole arm. He had been pretty good at sparring in basic training and the weapon he had taken seemed to feel the same in his hand. The sharp end was a bit worrisome but it definitely looked like it would be good for doing damage in battle. The throwing axes would be helpful as well but he couldn't help but think about how nice it would be to have more ammo. He sighed in relief about not having gold these strangers could sing away from him. Eventually he would figure out how best to strap this new weapon to his back and that in itself would discourage thieves. Maybe if I tuck my ears in my helmet my ears will be safe. He stood at attention and waited for orders.

Oki knew the routine of preparing for combat missions as a war correspondent. This time however, the technology available was going to be different. Still, she needed body armor, a helmet and a shield. She figured that she could carry another 20-25 pounds of equipment. Any more than that meant that she'd slow the unit down (unacceptable) and handing over her supply kit to another meant she wasn't pulling her weight (also unacceptable). She needed her face partially clear for the camera work, so that required careful attention to the helmet she picked out. The armor had to be non-restrictive, so that ruled out heavy metals and heavy leathers. The shield had to be unobtrusive too. The last restriction was that the lieutenant gave her a stipend of about 500 coins to shop with as well as offering to repay the 50 for the lute. She seemed unsure about what to do in their culture regarding the 50, now that she had money. She tried to explain these restrictions to Torrin... him being a war-priest... he could probably direct her to the right shops for purchases.

Adrian follows the group, waiting instructions. He seems to be more relaxed, now that they have something to do, to distract his mind. Adrian is a man of action, not of words, and of course not one to wait long in the comfort of a palace, or what ever the place they were was. His fingers run over his pistol, getting ready for action, when one idea came to him. His hand runs to touch his KA-BAR combat knife, his old friend, the one that was with him on the desert. The Nightstalker some called him in the past because of it. This kind of weapon seems to be better suited for the situations they might face in the near future. His KA-BAR will taste blood again.

He had to admit, it had been funny as hell to watch. Nantle was a grizzled, old-school kinda guy, and had the attitude to show for it. His rip into Aguirre had been classic boot-camp stuff. Phil would cling to the mexican like a squid. What had been less entertaining, Joe reflected, was Nantle's behaviour towards the women; not just with his serving-girl (calling the brunette with the bun 'his serving-girl' would have to do, 'cos - he realised, with a pinch of guilt - he'd never asked a name), but with all the serving-girls, and he hadn't been exactly warm towards Lady Whatsername either. No, at times Nantle's actions felt less like those of a hard-ass Sergeant and more like a guy who'd gone through a messy divorce, or who simply hadn't Gotten Any for too long. It wasn't just morale that was important. Upsetting the locals wasn't a great move either... and that was why, as his squad went through final gear checks and tried to arrange their murderously heavy packs more comfortably, he pulled 'Rusty' over. "Can't help but notice you're busting a lot of chops round here, Sergeant," he added in an almost flippant tone. "There a reason for that, or is busting chops just what you do?"

Nantle had to think a moment before responding. He wasn't told he could speak freely, but the question seemed to demand more than just a short answer. "Sir, let me make one thing clear. The only priority I have besides following your orders is the mission. And that mission as far as I'm concerned is that we return home and stop any attack planned on headquarters," said Nantle as he thought about how at ease Joe had started being in this strange world. "Understand one thing sir, I'm not a diplomat, I'm a soldier. And as a soldier I look after my unit and try to help them avoid distractions. Including late night visits from pretty girls," said Nantle as he thought about the flustered girl who evidently wanted more than a hello from his superior. Why couldn't he have gotten a superior just a little older? Or at least married. "With all due respect sir... you seem to be under the impression that we are in friendly territory. Understand this sir, no matter how 'nice' everyone has been, it doesn't change the fact that we know nothing about them or have verification of their motives. This IS unknown territory, you could say even hostile territory," said Nantle as he stopped and turned to Joe. "And in hostile territory we do not spend nights with the natives or speak of vital intel right in front of them... sir," finished Nantle. He hadn't spoken that much in a while and it annoyed him to have to do so. But he had to make his position clear in this place. Joe seemed to take everything that was told to them at face value.

Even if Oki ever overheard private conversations that she typically wasn't meant to hear, she was careful not to record them unless she was willing to burn bridges with people if caught or if her recordings were ever made known. There was such a thing as journalistic ethics and maintaining friendships, alliances, contacts and other sources of trust. Indiscriminant eavesdropping, especially recording of notes, audio, photgraphs, video or other sources was a sure way to make a breach of trust. When members of the squad obviously wanted their privacy, Oki did her best to give it to them now, more than ever. The next few weeks or months or however long this mission took would certainly depend on all of them trusting each other. They were an integral team; she was an outsider trying to fit in. In some way, Torrin fit in better than she did, in other ways, not. She had to continually earn their trust and she knew it.

The LT dropped the jauntiness like a sack of hammers as his sergeant went on. His reply was reaching for slow, measured, an attempt at sounding authoritative despite the grating annoyance at the back of his mind. This guy sounds like my dad. "Sergeant." Joe tried to meet his non-com's eye. "We're the first Americans these people have seen. You remember what the 'R' in LDRSHIP means? Yeah." He nodded, for effect. "Like it or not, we ARE diplomats, right now. We gotta be diplomatic. I tried 'direct' when we first got here - you remember? - it didn't buy us anything. So now, we nod and smile. We watch and we take notes but we don't say a word out of place." "As long as they look like they're holding up their end of the bargain, we relax. If something's wrong - if I decide something's wrong - then I'll tell you." Pause. Let it sink in. "And if you think I'm some kind of fratboy who's just looking to score - well. Maybe it's best if we pretend you didn't insinuate that, sergeant."

Oki smiled and began, while playing, "Being with another musician is fun... I believe you called yourself a bard? What does the term bard imply anyway? I've my own preconceptions of it of course; but, I'm curious what you think it means. I'm only just rediscovering my musical talents that have been dormant since school and that's been a few years. I was convinced to change professions as there was more of a future in it. Well, you can see where that got me."

Nantle leaned over to Joe to speak in a hushed voice. "Sir, we should discuss what strategy to use when it comes the next fight we run into. I was thinking Torrin, Me and Phil could take the close combat. Assuming Phil remembered to get some armor. While you and Adrian support us with bows. The reporter can bandage anyone who goes down. Only thing is you were saying something about not able to use a bow?" asked Nantle. He still didn't have a total feel for how Joe would do combat wise with swords and bows as weapons. He seemed to prefer close combat, but would wear simple clothing as protection.

[OOC]: Don't sweat it, TBM, family's more important than a game. I hope your son is okay. [IC]: Torrin sat on the rock and stared into the fire, listening to Oki's music fill the night. His eyes seemed far away as his body sat rigidly, not moving a muscle. He shook himself slightly as the song ended and gave a light applause. "Very fine, my lady. Where did you learn to play like that? I almost thought I was back at court..." While awaiting her answer, he picked up his hammer and inspected it for dents and wear, twisting a hand around the handle to smooth down the leather for a tighter grip.

| The bard, Hesiodos, smiles at the question. "You'll find singers, players, performers of all stripes across the land, though the provinces of Camar, the old Empire, Razhur, no matter where you go. But true bards... well, those are rare. To a bard, music is magic... the notes carry meaning and power the same way that written runes do for a wizard." The bard hums a soft melody, and waves a hand in front of him in tune to the music. To your surprise, his fingers start to glow briefly, then he stops and it fades, quickly enough so that you wonder if it was an illusion of the moonlight. He looks at Oki and smiles again. "You seem to have some of that gift in you, m'lady. Perhaps, if you wish it, I could instruct you further in what I mean."

Amazed at what she saw, she was eager to learn. Both these men men had much to teach if there was enough time. First things first, She wanted to learn from Hesiodos. The other man reminded her of her grandfather somehow. Oki tried to answer both Hesiodos and Torrin, "I studied at Juilliard; but, what you offer, Hesiodos is amazing. I would truly be indebted to you, if you were to start me on the road to learning this path. Surely there's got to be a way to use this magic to benefit others in a compassionate way, much like music shares emotions and brings joy to others."
