Oki felt oddly at peace. It was almost impossible to describe why. Time would not have passed in her world when they returned; this world was in turmoil here; her world was in chaos when they returned; there was nothing to explain her moments of calmness other than she had some and she was glad for it. Maybe it was the pause in the bits of chaos of the time they had or something else spiritual, who was to say.

Then the few moments passed as the hustle and bustle continued as they realized they had an emergency message to deliver to the Grand Duke in two days and time was of the essence.

Oki handed the message back to the Lieutenant after letting everyone review it again.

Nantle had to admit, Joe seemed to actually know what he was doing. Even with the battles against the ugliest crap his ever seen. The wierd, freaky magic. And the lack of cigars in this world. Their unit wasn't actually doing too bad. He just wondered how long their luck could last...

OOC I don’t remember which worm’s version we are using, but I do remember that during first session there was an update, because I was not able to join the game and had to d/l everything again, no matter that I did it two days before. I’ve being following the progress of the forest seasonal update, even had a email there with Alleyslink, because I want to add the tiles set to my own module, and as far as I know LB is running the last version, though can’t be 100% sure, I think we will find out soon.

I talked to the author and he said he's shooting for an early October release for the full version. I'm also planning on using the tilesets for a campaign I'm building.

Just a reminder, since we're up to 7 now, we'll run a session every time we have at least 5 players signed up.

Also, as I noted in the game there will be no session on Oct. 8th.

As always, if you know in advance that you'll miss a week, post here so I can try to plan your absence IC.

Also, I'll go ahead and bump the XP award to 600xp/900xp if everyone posts.

ooc a tiny technical detail on filming

when i said there's no scene for the medic/bandaging scene, i meant, there's none on the stage set used for Maldrigar's Laboratory ("Dark Towers" it's called, based off the "office set" The Medic scene is normally restricted to the "War" & "Street" sets... lame, I know... so I had to use the "Blue Screen Set" and super-impose the medic scene back onto the Maldrigar's Laboratory set. ..... all 100 frames one by one ... Phil & Rusty cut out and cleaned up, turned into layers with an alpha-channel so it can be a transparent overlay, resized, etc, and then converted into a frame of overlay film and combined into a 3-second (or so) overlay image over a blank image of the set with a pool of blood. *pant pant pant pant*

Any wonder I needed a week off? ROFL

Torrin

Torrin walked out of the abandoned temple and breathed the clean air deeply into his lungs. Never in his life was he surrounded by such evil and he feverntly hoped this would be the last time but a voice in the back of his head wasn't so sure. He had heard tales of such evil that made one's very skin crawl, but he thought them old wive's tales told to chilren to make them behave. Now he knew better. He looked at the strangers who "came from across the ocean" and smiled to himself. Though he still didn't agree with the Duke's decision to bring them here, he could see the reasoning behind it. All were steadfast warriors, even Oki, though she might deny it. Though trained as a battle priest, he found he had little stomach for it. Still, as long as his beloved city was threatend, he would defend it and he could ask for no better comrades then these strange men and woman. His thoughts and gaze lingered to Vulcanos, the sorcerer they freed from the Orc's clutches. He vaguely remembered seeing the sorcerer, but never talking to him. Hopefully the man's magics would prove to be valuable asset and allow Torrin to focus more on actually fighting rather and only spend his spells when absolutly necessary. While he was gracious of his god's gifts, he tended to forget them in the heat of battle. He would have to rememdy that.

Oki had seen some truly devastating sights in her assignments as a journalist on Earth; she'd seen things most people would cringe at; but, this truly was a unique experience and the sights she'd seen and the horrors she'd witnessed put most of them to shame... most. She knew; however, that there would still be more to come from this strange new world and even those memories from Earth might be challenged by what she and the others would likely lie ahead of them.

In the meantime, she tried to remain cheerful and light, and offered a few light tunes to keep spirits light. The journey back was laden with terrible news and there was no sense in travelling slow and with a heavy heart among all of them. So she kept the tunes light and upbeat to make the travel seem springy and alive and go by faster.

Vulcanos Mencius

Vulcanos whistled as they walked out, muttering under his breath. Dagos luck with me again! A true miracle, to leave this place alive. There was a chill in the air of the Ebon Wood, and Vulcanos idly let a few flames play from his fingertips. Some rest, some food, and my powers should return.

He turned to gaze at the strangers in daylight. Though he had thought them men-at-arms, they clearly were far from ordinary armsmen. An interesting group, perhaps providing some entertainment along with knowledge. It might be best to remain with these strangers for a bit. They certainly seem to walk an interesting path. As they walked along the path, Vulcanos, feeling better than he had for many days, ventured a smile. "So, friends, tell me a bit of yourselves, and how you came to the Grand Duchy."

Not that I know of. I'm just good with search parameters. I guessed that you chose sorcerer portraits that you could see the screenshots and played bloodhound. scanned down the list visually with your portait on my screen and kept comparing them til I found yours. It's a trick I've taught myself to find other people's too. I've found dozens that way. Think of it like looking through Mugshots for a particular face on a "wanted" poster.

He knew they were running out of time. There were still two hundred-odd Orcs out there, any number of which could either march right into this canyon they were in or decide to run all the way to Bastion. They'd taken out the enemy CP, killed their commanders; but for all he hoped that would stop them, there was an equal chance that somewhere in the main force was a well-briefed Lieutenant who could carry out this... 'Lord Kalibos's' plans. And from what he'd seen so far, there was a chance the Orcs'd either get fed up of the forest or just plain get bored, and move on anyway. Lack of discipline in an enemy force could be a real bummer sometimes.

But even so, he'd ordered a rest. They were tired, strung out, messed-up with who knows what weird disease or whatever that Orc creep had been throwing around and they'd fought their way through a horror movie. That they'd done all this without breaking was a testament to boot camps and drills of the US Army everywhere, but there was only so far you could push a man and he was not about to lose a man now. Not when they were so close! They'd done the mission, above and beyond the call of duty, running around half-cocked was going to get them killed. All this bow-shooting and sword-swinging... his arms ached like they never had before. Not to mention the two guys from the dungeon, they'd been in no state to fight and anyone who'd been in that... place for a while needed a breather if they were going to stay sharp and move fast.

'Course, now that they WERE ready, there was no excuse for not double-timing it all the way back. Bastion just had to sit tight and stay ready. God, what he wouldn't give for a pair of two-way radios... even a pair of kiddies' walkie-talkies was better than nothing.

The bearded guy in red started speaking when they got out of the darkness, the usual getting-to-know-you pleasantries. Briefly, Joe wondered how much he was able to say. He knew his sergeant would say 'nothing', but... well, someone had intel on them, that's for sure. "And what of the human magic-wielders?" that Orc guy had said. You didn't need a GED to figure out who he was talking about.

But who knew them? Who'd seen them and lived? That jackass bandit leader? As he'd remarked at the time, a bandit group with its' own quality weapons and its' own pretty shields had been pretty weird... but not so weird if they were being bankrolled by whoever was marshalling these Orcs. Maybe, maybe...

The ghastly scope of what could be happening flitted across his mind for a moment. He shunted it to one side. Time for that later.

"You want the truth?" Joe replied to the black-haired Vulcanos. "After your unit disappeared, the Duke didn't have anyone else to send. So he got his magician to find someone. Some freaky unexpected dream-vision-spirit-journey-stuff later, here we are."

"True story," he added, not quite believing it himself. You guys screwing up is the freakin' reason we're here, he almost added, but he simply couldn't. As true as it was, that thought just felt... unworthy.

Whatever that meant.

Adrian moves slowly, feeling dizzy and sick. Even though the Priest helped him with that strange disease he stills feels bad, in a different way. It is something from within, a very strange sensation taking over him. The earth suddenly moves under his feet, Adrian almost lose balance, he has to place a hand on something solid, this time the nearest rock he found. The earth moves even more, sick. The soldier’s eyes wander around, catching a glimpse of something way out of his comprehension. He feels overwhelmed by shadows, moving all around. The whisper. That whisper again, saying something he does not understand. Adrian, through a great effort, turns to see the rest of his companions; apparently none of them is hearing. He still remembers Phil’s surprised expression when he said that the bones were whispering. Does the rest of the company hear what he listens now? How to know, they don’t seem to be aware of the whisper.

The whisper becomes intense. Words of unknown to his ears… or is it inside his head? How can he tell? The shadows around, overwhelming him, boarding him from everywhere, he just can’t stand it anymore; Adrian simply leans and throws out. But what a strange feeling, not like the vomit result of a hangover of a known for him illness; no, this one feels different. It is like if his inner parts where leaving his body, like when you turn to a sock the other side, from the inside to the outside. He feels his interior abandoning him. It hurts.

Then, that sound again. That sound invading his ear, the earth moves even more. The pain increases. The sounds lets no more think to Adrian. He is no longer owner of his thoughts, not even his movements. It is too much…

Adrian screams in pain and falls to the ground.

Torrin

Suddenly brought out from his reviere by Adrian's scream, Torrin spun around as Adrian fell. He ran to Adrian's side and turned him over onto his back. He shouted at the LT for rags and water. He held a hand on Adrian's forehead, his eyes going distant as he seemed to look through Adrian. "What is it, Adrian? How do you feel?" He quickly searched Adrian's body for any remanents of the negative energy blast he suffered early, but finding none, sat back on his heels with a worried expression. "I don't know what's wrong with him...We should bring him back to town as quickly as possible, I may need assistance with this one..."

Ooc: joint point done in MSN IM between mannedoc & Jenniza/Stephanie
Edited by Stephanie

IC
Adrian eyed Oki getting close. When she approached him, he pulled her close, with an expression of despair and pain, and told her, “Can you hear the whispering? Please... stop the whispering... shut it down.

Oki wasn't sure what she was hearing; but, she was hearing something... then she felt an odd presence near her. Yet, somehow, she sensed it wasn't quite entirely there at the same time. For her though, it brought her a sense of comfort and peace. She did not understand why Adrian was in such pain.

Oki spoke gentle words of comfort, "I hear them; but, I don't understand them."

Oki kneeled down by Adrian's side.

Adrian eyed Oki confused. Was it that after all he was not going crazy? Were the whispers not only inside his mind? Was it possible someone else could hear the same? But, why the pain? He raised his body enough to get closer to Oki; his breath smelled bad; but, he was unaware of it. Almost in a whisper he told her, “The pain… Comes from inside. It is like... like if my guts are pulled out.”

Adrian looked around; but, somehow he felt no fear, it was only the pain. Then, with despair on his eyes he added hesitantly, “Can you feel it?”

Oki looked deeply into Adrian's eyes and saw the despair; but, she doesn't quite understand where it was coming from... especially in light of her current state. It was almost like they were on two sides of the same coin. She was feeling nurtured by these whispers, while, he was being tormented. Neither of them seemed to comprehend the other's cause of their state of being.

Oki felt awkward for being in this state, while Adrian was in such despair. She asked, "I feel terrible for asking this; but, why am I hearing the whispers; but, feeling the exact opposite of despair?"

Adrian closed his fist, eyes fixed on Oki. He now realized about something new, not felt before, or at least he didn’t realize it. No, it was not that others could hear the whispering, on the contrary, they couldn’t; but, somehow Oki was able to hear the whispering as well. Adrian knew, she felt it, they shared it. But, not in the same way, she was calm, things were going smooth with her. Why?

Adrian struggled to clear his mind; but, as much as he tried it got harder for him to stay in one piece. After a moment, Adrian took a deep breath closing his eyes. Then, he stared at Oki, questioning, confused, and one phrase came out of his mouth, “The Shadows. They want me.”

Oki gasped, then looked about as she took Adrian's hand. She couldn't quite make out explicit shadows moving; but, she had the sensation that there were shadows about both of them. She jerked her head suddenly when she thought she heard her name called, not once; but, a few times. She wondered why it did not make her nervous like it should have though. She could not identify where it was coming from though; so, she was hesitant about replying to them.

To Adrian, she said, "I don't think you are the only one they want."

OOC: oddly enough, when we spoke just now, it turns out we had both been speaking with LB about this separately and didn't know about the other. ROFL... so we were surprised when we ended up in chat just now... so we compared notes and came up with something we thought might work like this

Adrian is burning in fever, when Torin turns him over onto his back he struggles no to throw out again. Suddenly he feels a bit calm, still confused and disoriented, but falls into a dream away from the rest of the group. With eyes close forgets for a moment about everything, allowing him to fall into sleep.

IC: "What the hell's going on? Give him some room!" The Lieutenant storms to the back of the line, some of the squad behind him, bearing canteens and bandages.

He gives the tableau a once-over. His scout, down on the ground and looking like Death warmed up; the worry on the face of the priest, and the strange, strange look on the face of the reporter.

He got a sinking feeling in his stomach. The squad didn't have a field medic - and even if they had, chances are whatever weirdness had messed Aguirre up was beyond trauma surgery. They only had one crutch out here - he didn't know how it worked, but they'd all damn well been relying on it since Bastion and they'd have to rely on it now. The priest's miracle magic.

"Torrin, what's wrong with him? We - we need to move. Can you help him? Can we move him?"

Phil watched the seen dumb founded, "What's goin' on? Sir, what should I do?" "Double A" was always someone he respected, someone who helped him before the officers saw him do things wrong and now... Oh, how he hoped he would be alright. He had seen his Uncle Joe get like this when the family wouldn't let him have anymore liquor. But "Double A" did not need to dry out from drinkin' too much, in fact they had not had anything to drink since they left the fort.

He hoped beyond hope that someone would give him orders, orders he knew he could follow most times. Again he looked at Oki and the concern he showed for his friend. He could not help but worry. He had no clue what to do and hoped the others would get "Double A" back in form.

Out of mere desperation Phil said, "Oki, maybe you should sing to him..."
