Adrian

Phil’s words brings back to reality to Adrian, shaking his head he turns to see the big man. Adrian never realized about the strange condition his body presents, he just approached big Phil.

What did you said Phil? No, I was not staring that, I was just lost in thought.

A half smile comes to his face, amused by Phil’s expression.

Torrin

Back in Camar, Torrin tried to resume his normal routine while checking in on his new friends to ensure that they were being taken care of properly and wanted for nothing. After the evening prayers, he spent long hours at the inn talking to everybody to learn more about them. Though he would never admit it, he was sad that these foreign men and woman would soon be leaving, but, he thought to himself, there was still the matter of this "new" god arising that would command his attention soon. He could only pray that the Church would be able to destroy this new dark power before it grew and swept over the land. He did not look forward to this task...

The delegation arrives with great panoply, announced by a trill of trumpets that echoes over the city. Twelve armored knights, clad in heavy armor, escorting four men and two women in noble finery. They pass through central Camar, where a cohort of the Duke's guards and the City Watch gather along a route lined by curious men and women from the city. The entire display takes only a few minutes to make its way past; the visitors are apparently intent on their destination, the citadel of the Duke.

Questions to nearby citizens easily yield the identity of the newcomers: the noble guests are representatives of three of the four monarchies known collectively as the Blue Kingdoms. Sometimes rivals, sometimes friends, Camar's eastern neighbors historically fight amongst themselves as with others.

On watch in the citadel, Adrian and Phil are oblivious to these happenings. However, they cannot help but notice an hour later, as Brannix and two guards come to Maldrigar's laboratory. They barely even acknowledge the Americans' existence. Brannix speaks to Maldrigar for a moment, and then the mage departs with them. At a question from one of the soldiers, the wizard turns and says, distracted, "The Duke requires my assistance. I will notify you as soon as I have something to tell you. I am sorry."

And then he is gone. Brannix turns at the door.

"The guard will see you to the inn, where your companions are staying." And then he too is gone, leaving the guardsman alone with Adrian and Phil.

ooc The next session will start after a few days have passed, so feel free to post if you want your character to do anything in the city in the interim. We'll resolve any such actions at the start of play next time.

Getting pro-active

The 'official visit' was all pretty nice. Gave the people of Camar something to stand around and wave flags about, even if none of them really seemed all that sure about what was going on. Fighitng amongst themselves as well as others, though... maybe the Duke was trying to support his flagging military with foreign aid.

On the other hand, maybe he just wanted a big party.

The Watering Hole was pretty much the same as before, right down to having some musician in the corner, whispering to some rube. It might even be the same guy, Joe couldn't remember him. There was a little hush in the room as five heavily-armed, weirdly-dressed travellers walked in, but at least there was no piano to suddenly stop playing Buffalo Girls, or any guys in black hats willing to call anyone 'Gringo'.

((OOC: A bit of assumption follows - I hope there are rooms!))

The barlady seemed happy to show the squad upstairs, and happier still at the coins. Despite the drinkers in the common room, the hotel business wasn't all that good in Camar, it seemed.

As the five of them got settled, Joe tried to calm down. We can do a couple more days. We've been shot at, hacked at, blown up, taken down and everything in between. It's only another couple of days.

But what if it's not?

"Rusty, Vulcanos... Vulcanos, we could use some help here if you've got some time on your hands - look around town," Joe began, once everyone was suitably billeted. "Find me places that can help us stock up on bullets or fix our flak jackets. Anything. Maybe someone can... make slugs appear out of thin air or something or make our guns magic, I dunno. Just find me something. If nothing else, we might have to get hold of local equipment, so give me prices. Our gold ain't limitless."

"Torrin, Oki. Same goes for you. It could be - it *could* be - that we'll have to clear out of this town in a hurry. I know you all like the Duke here, but... well. I just want to be prepared. Could be he'll try to give us something else to do. Could be we'll refuse. Either way, I'd like to know where to go to get some good travelling supplies, energy drinks... the rest. I'd like to have a few for when the time comes to move out."

"Plus, we've all of us got a lot of gold and gear we've been salvaging... might be worth our while to see if we can liquidise some of it. If there's some pawn shop or flea market or something in Camar, then let us know and we can drag our stuff there. Not like we need a bag full of souvenirs."

"Now... none of my squad, or Oki, are from around here. We've got no passport, no papers to show the Guard. I've got this badge the Duke gave me, and we got our cloaks, but that's it. No-one goes anywhere alone. There could be trouble, and the worst is, it could be the honest-misunderstanding kind that causes a ruckus and makes us look like the bad guys, and we can do without that."

The Lieutenant gives his sergeant and the reporter a look. "Play it like Baghdad. Probably won't be long until Phil and Aguirre get booted out of the palace, so - any questions, people?"

Vulcanos nodded in response to the lieutenants implied question. "I would be happy to be of assistance. A tailor of my acquaintance here is named Zala. She is a seamstress, and knows a bit of sorcerery as well. She may be able to help you. I will speak to her today, and suggest you stop by tomorrow and show her the armor you need repaired.

If Zala cannot help you, there is a mage in the Bluffside district that owns a magic shop. Her name is Maela, and she is a Guild mage. I'd try Zala first, as she may be less expensive, and your affairs may be more ... private.

I myself have some business to conduct, with the Guild of Sorcery, and you may not see much of me the next day or two. If you have dire need of me, seek me at the Guild Tower, just north of the Temple of Soleus in the Bluffside district. Otherwise, I will seek you out in a few days."

Guys, it is looking like I will miss Monday's game due to a business trip. I am heading to LB-land, but unfortunately will be landing right around game time, making it unlikely I will participate this week. I should be back the following week.

Torrin watched the procession enter the castle with interest. After they had passed, he headed towards the temple to inquire as to why they were here. He knew Camar and the Blue Kingdoms did not always see things in the same manner, so for a delegation to arrive here must mean portentious events. He only hoped that this did not delay his friends' departure, but he was afriad that it would.

Oki was a bit depressed; but, did her best to keep up her appearances. There was a distinct possibility that she was trapped here in this strange land; because of the choices she made to follow the life of a bard and the shadows that chose her to stay here might have made it even tougher. All this magical healing and innate magic from songs was now something she would have to purge, if she ever wanted to return home... if she ever wanted to see her parents... wanted to return to her job... wanted to tell her story... wanted to get away from this alien and hostile culture and environment. No matter the charms that some tried to show her; this land was not a place that she wanted to stay.

A minute of getting lost in the castle of Camar and she's fending off the lecherous Captain of the Guard Brannix Delgaron. She witnessed three people publicly executed for minor crimes. She listend to a bandit speak of his father's death while in the custody of the Duke. Then if the Duke's law wasn't bad enough, they have orc enemies and co-conspirators from the north and political enemies in the castle currently. Torrin was also worried about a new evil god rising from somewhere.

Staying here long term was NOT a good idea. Listening to the Lieutenant's warnings... staying here short term wasn't even a good idea.

They needed a solution that didn't involve them sucking down more magic and anchoring them here further.

When the guards and that man (OOC assuming is a human) came to Maldrigar’s laboratory and took him out, Adrian readies his weapon, ready for action. However, something inside told him to do nothing, worst could happen if they start a battle right there. Adrian followed his instincts, turning to Phil to say that they should report to the LT about what just had happen there.

With some relief Adrian reported the situation to his superiors, to find out that they were going to have few days in the city, perhaps waiting for something out of Adrian understands. Any way, it was a good chance to spend his free time, if any, and relax. Adrian found out the way to meet to ladies, he had no money, but that was something to solve later.

Adrian was in a tube bath naked with two women, relaxing after action, eating an apple and drinking some wine when he was summoned. He had no money to pay, not even idea if the women were going to charge him a fee for their services, there was a faint hope that they see him as a returning hero, and like with rock stars, he had a groupie fan, but he was no Bono or Mick Jagger either, so that was uncertain. After the summoning the happy time came to an end… it was time to find out how to get out of there in one piece.

((OOC I hope Adrian is not in troubles…. Heheh))

Phil was not in the least crazy about staying around in this place but he was even more uncomfortable thinking about stepping into one of those magic circles again. So much so that he tried not to think of it at all, and he was quite relieve when "Double A" said they should report to the LT.

However, finding out they had a couple days of leave brought on more anxiety. He knew he had to stay out of the baths! Holy cow, they let women in there, he thought. And they get in the tub with ya and start droppin' the soap! He reddened at the memory. And where could he go when "Double A" was set on making his way to the baths. Usually he spent his leave at home with Pappy an the double wide trailer his old man called "Paradise." He thought back longingly for those simple days.

But what worried Phil the most; no orders to follow for two days. He stood dumbfounded looking at the door.

A Warning

"Sir... while I want to get to home as much as anyone, maybe we should change priorities," said Nantle as he took a deep breath. He didn't want to say it, think about th possibility that theyn't go back. But he had to accept the possibility.
"Instead of having the wizard put his efforts into getting us back, we should have him put his efforts into being able to send a warning to headquarters. The trouble is us being able to go through, but what about a something with writing? Something that can be sent without problem?" asked Nantle. He wanted to go home, but they had to think of the lives lost if they didn't warn headquarters in time.

Torrin

Torrin sat at the long table in the Mage's Guild and stared at Joe, not believing ears. "They asked you to do what? Sell them your...weapons? I would suggest that you not mention that to His Grace, His Holiness or any others of the court. His Grace might hold you responsible for The Blue Kingdom's offer." He shook his head and stood up, stopping to talk to Phil on the way out. "Phil, I would advise you to keep better track of your items, especially your armor. Few know your true origins and if others learned of them, life could become very dangerous for you and your fellows. I fear that there are those who would try to pry from you your secrets or use you as pawns in their power struggles." He smiled slightly and put a hand on Phil's shoulder companioningly. "While I wish you had never come, I do consider you a friend, Phil, which is why I do not wish to see any harm befall you. So, please, be more careful while you are here." He turned to the others and looked at each in turn. "And that goes for all of you. Now, since our business here is finished, let us leave the Arch Magus to his duties and see if His Grace has returned. There is a small chance we may determine why Camar's neighbors have sent an envoy."

Phil winced at the reminder, remembering how he had lost the body armor and ducal cloak. He was a fanatic about keeping track of his gear. He had neatly folded the body armor, tattered as it had become, on the edge of the bath atop of the cloak. In fact, he was so focused on keeping his gear in sight he had not seen the female servant standing beside the bath.

He was so taken aback by her presence, when he did notice her, that everything but sinking into the water to hide left his mind. Then she had the nerve to enter the bath holding a bar of soap and a rag offering to wash him. This is when all sense left the little brain he had. Then she dropped the soap and pure terror filled the void. He barely recalled the body armor falling into the water tattered and torn. He had grabbed the clean dress uniform and fled for his life.

It wasn't until he had gotten to his room, with heart pounding in his throat, had he realized his error. His heart had almost instantly stopped. His family luck had come back to haunt him and he just knew he would be dishonorably discharged. "Double D" had given him a glimpse of hope but it had made him nauseated when he had taken the blame for Phil's transgression. He was shocked that Sgt. Nantle had figured it all out. He was sure "Double A" would not have told, especially after taking the blame himself. He paused, more dread filling his mind. Maybe the Sgt. could read minds like all those fella's said back in Iraq! Phil looked at the Sgt. with awe and tried not to think.

ATTENTION!

Stone-faced and very, very quiet, Lt. Abnett double-timed his men back to the Watering Hole. This needed dealing with. No Lieutenant of the US Army, anywhere, could have let this go, no matter the situation. He thought, briefly, of grabbing a shot of something strong to stiffen his nerves before the 'briefing', but the image that gave was a bad, bad one indeed.

"Torrin, Oki... Vulcanos... go for a walk. Do that Duke thing you said. Here, money. Get us some gear. I need a moment alone with my squad."

He needed them out of the way. This was a military matter. Travelling with civilians had given the whole operation a camping-trip atmosphere, but that had to stop. Maybe Oki would understand, but he wasn't sure if Torrin or Vulcanos would take what he had to do well. I am the Lieutenant here, he thought. I have to remind these men they're still soldiers.

And what soldiers they were. A sergeant who'd seen too many war movies or something, a skirt-chasing point-man who was having trouble being see-through, and a PFC whose mind couldn't hold more than one thing at a time. They came to attention swiftly enough in the dingy two-bed room, but if that mollified the Lieutenant any, he didn't show it as he began pacing.

"I've been pretty lenient up till now, I think," he began. "Pressure off. Take things at your own pace. Nothing too strenuous. 'Cos this is one messed-up situation, I see that. It was messed-up when we arrived, it was messed-up when we were in the field and, guess what! It's still messed-up now."

"Now, I know we were taking it easy three days ago, but that's 'cos as far as we knew, we were going home. You all know that's not the case, but - losing your gear?" And here he directed a very sharp look at the Private. "You are a man of the 3rd Infantry, Private! You think Major General Blount's going to walk up, kiss your ass and give you a new jacket? Do you?"

His face was barely a few inches from the Private's - that big, blank, innocent face. Something about the terrified look in the man's eyes made the Lieutenant back off, turning his back to the squad and reassessing his thoughts. Calm down. Christ, you're turning into Nantle.

Joe caught his breath, and spoke again. "I thought going easy on you and letting your training take care of the rest was the right way to handle this. Was I wrong?"

He turned, giving each of the three men a long, hard look. "Well? Was I? Permission to speak, come on."

Phil blinked away the well of potential tears. He could have cracked an acorn with his butt cheeks he was so rigid at attention. He knew he was in trouble and had nothing to say for fear of making things worse. All color had left his face and he had forgotten to breathe. Almost too late he realized he was getting dizzy. He took a deep breath which brought the unwanted attention of the LT. He had no other choice but to say something, "Sir, I'm no expert in lead'n but I think you do a fine job, Sir" His mouth hung open in panic, he was sure this was where he would get discharged.

Vulcanos smiled as he walked back from the Bluffside district. The past few days had been a pleasant, and much-needed, diversion, and he felt much better now.

I wonder who knows about the outlanders and isn't talking? Hard to believe there is that little information on them floating about. And what is behind the interest from the Blue Kingdoms?

Time to find Torrin and the outlanders. Things seem to happen around them.

Vulcanos quickened his step. He liked being around when things happened.

"That so?" Joe seemed to consider this. "Well, then. Here's what we're going to do. This... mission is our ticket home... so we've been assured. And we're going to do it like the US Army dog-soldiers we're supposed to be. You got that? From hereon in, Bad Boys is in effect. We're on about 60% ammo - so let's use it."

He looked at the three men in front of him. "Rock of the Marne. 3rd Army style. No holding back this time. What do you say?"

sounds good

"Sounds good to me Sir!" shouted Nantle. Well what do you know? LT did have a back bone after all. Took a teleporting to another world and a whole bunch of other messes, but the man was finally not being so soft.
Speaking of soft, he was really worried that old geezer was going to kick the bucket before sending them home. And the way their luck has been going, it could happen.
