holster

Nantle should be raising objections about sharing guns and rifles with the natives. He should be concentrating on their damn mission. But all he could think about was the holster with the U.S. logo on it, from some unknown soldier.
It meant one thing... one important thing.

We weren't the first brought here...

And then the next thought came unbidden.

They've done all this before. They brought soldiers from our world and used them to infiltrate this dungeon for them.

When Nantle first entered this world, he treated it as hostile territory, trust nothing. Not the natives, not the words, not anything. Always be on guard.
But he let his guard slip. Started bonding with the natives. Listened to LT about how they had to show diplomacy. Well diplomacy got them duped... maybe it was time to try something else.

Torrin looked up at Joe's mention of "hocus pocus" with a serious look. "Don't worry about me, lt, I shall utilize the powers granted to me by the Shinning Father to our best advantage as possible. Though I would advise listening to Vulcanos about the 'hocus pocus' as you incorrectly term it. We will find your man and have lizard steaks for dinner. Though, I fear the meat may be tough and possibly poisonous to us." At that, he turned back to his equipment, especially making sure the grip on his hammer was dry and his bow string taunt.

Adrian

Adrian open his eyes, the pain is again there. The takes his hand to the ear, the noise and pain is not gone yet, but makes an effort to build himself into one piece. He sniffs the air and feels how wet is all around, dark, unknown. Adrian tries to stand up, but a sudden pain on his back makes him change his mind, at least not to stand so fast. His eyes try to get used to this environment.

Yes, the holster was intended to be Adrian's, a clue that the scout had been brought here by the saurans.

Torrin

Torrin leaned against the cold wall to catch his breath and take stock of his supplies. His healing was almost gone and Oki carried the few bandages he had. He hoped they could rest soon, otherwise he didn't know how effective he would be in combat without the benefit of the Father's blessings. He took a deep breath and pushed away from the wall, knowing the Father watched over him and he could perservere without divine aid. He only hoped Vulcanos could do the same without his "hocus pocus." Otherwise it was going to be a long trek.

Phil's chest heaved and the freshly healed scars tingled as the magic from this new world he found himself in once again revitalized his beaten body. It was not a shock anymore to be healed but as he looked around at his companions he could not help but notice the fatigue on their faces.

KILL the gators,he thought as an unbidden rage filled his heart. He would not let those foul lizards endanger his friends. "The only good gator is a dead gator," he muttered as he watched "Double A" stealthily move forward.

Oki had seen it before... both in herself and in previous combatants she'd been embedded with... extensive initial exposure to new combat situations changed them. This group was experiencing the same effects, including her once again. Even though Torrin and Vulcanos lived in this world, it seemed likely they hadn't seen a lot of real world combat here... Torrin especially... They learned fast; however, for which they were all grateful. Same with the squad, they were clearly experienced troops back on Earth; but, here, they were learning learning quickly as many of the experiences were new and catching them unawares initially... but only short-term. Even Oki was caught off-guard; but, learned to adapt. They all learned to adapt; but, when in comversation with them, tell-tale signs revealed slight changed in their personality... best described as seasoning or experience or caution. There is also an increase in the amount of aggression shown among each of them... it's subtle... very subtle; but, there when you look for it.

They were on the edge of failure.

That last fight had been close, too close. Outnumbered every step, never a moment to rest. They had almost all been slaughtered.
Nantle took a breath.
"Just got to work on our tactics," muttered Nantle.

Adrian opens his vestment, to see the scar that was left. No doubt the priest made a good job healing him, but this scar is really ugly and big. He runs his fingers along the scar; it hurts, but not much, the usual feeling of a new scar. Adrian frown thinking on what he would say about this scar, not a common one. A soldier can have bullet, knife, grenade and other kind of scars, but a fair cut in between his chest to the stomach, how will he explain it? Will he say, oh, I was just cut in half and brought back to life? Maybe on this world, but not on HIS world!! With that he runs to Torrin.

PRIEEEEESST!!!

It was a long, dark, damp hole in the ground, but it gave him time to think.

The relief in some of the squad was almost solid. We'd lost two men, who had been restored to us; We'd nearly been washed away by a tide of 'Saurans', only to get right back up and dust ourselves off again. Some would call it good luck, but somehow it seemed a little too... consistent for that.

There was a good chance his thoughts were wrong, but if he was, there was no harm in it. He looked at the ceiling of the ancient ruin, and mouthed a 'thank-you'.

Whatever moment might have occurred was, unfortunately, stopped dead in its' tracks by the scream of their scout...

Torrin looked up suddenly at Adrian's shout. "What's wrong? Are you hurt? Are there enemies about?" He looked around, searching for the cause of Adrian's sudden shout.

Vulcanos Mencius:

Vulcanus was not pleased. The waves of saurans had come from all directions, and the armsmen had been unable to shield him. A few hits, and he had gone down.So much for the great sorcerer.... He smiled grimly. At least I can still grill up some lizard-steaks...

He looked around at the others. Torrin, grim but persevering. Some of the armsmen look spellshocked, but none seem panicked. We may still make it...

Some of them had been accumulating more scars than normal... some almost unexplainable back home. This contributed to their changes they were undergoing. Their moods were effected. The almost undestructible illusion this world gave each of them was often rudely broken by death, scars, pain and watching each other go down in the heat of battle.

Caution was often mixed with a certain degree of chaos in combat. With their illusion of being able to continue despite incredible odds... it led them to take unneccary risks at times... using up supplies at unneccessary rates too at times.

Oki should bring up this observation.

He had done it. He had stared down the Baron and told him, in effect, to go to the Abyss. Torrin shook his head at this tought. What am I doing?, he thought, I was taught to respect authority. But the Baron overstepped his bounds. Either way, I must still present myself to my lord and accept my punishment. I only hope that the others aren't also punished for my insolence. He let out a deep sigh before staring briefly at Vulcanos. He looked away with a troubled expression. I don't know if I can fully trust that wizard, he acts as if he's hidding something. Whatever is bothering him, I hope it doesn't jepordize our lives. I should have a talk with him. He cleared his throat and called out to Vulanos, "Vulcanos, if you have a minute?"

Guys, I've been fighting something (I think it's the flu) for the past couple of days and I don't think staying up late is a good idea right now, so I'll be missing this session. I'll see you in a week. Go kill some Orcs for me.

Oki'd been through this before and she'd be through this again and again until they get off this world: people presuming too much and trying to run her life and the lives of the squad as if they not only belonged here; but, that their futures of their lives were worth less than a few coins.

Luckily, it was Torrin that spoke up, this time. It was getting tiring having to put up a fuss each time. These people had no value of human life or human rights. The sooner they got off this world, the better.

They now had the tablet and would be heading back home hopefully. With their luck; however, they'd be running into the river bandits and would have to be dealing with them first.

However it works out... it works out.
