Oki poured over the videos she had recorded from her adventures. She compared the assailants in Maldrigar's laboratory and their clothes and any markings on their hands, etc to those from a few weeks ago: the Rebels that the squad killed on the road to Bastion. Oki compared the style of dress and any markings on them for similarities. Next, she examined the video of Lady Tertullia's body for any clues, as well as the laboratory, the "dead" golem, the dead blue creature in the cell, etc. Somewhere, there had to be a clue as to what really happened. Perhaps a lock that seemed out of place or some lab equipment that was missing compared to their first day's visit. The explosion was a clue for sure, as was the missing magical tablet... Oki needed help, she showed the clues to the Lieutenant and asked for his advice. "Perhaps, it went down like this: The Rebels break in with intent to leave this plane for ours. Lady Tertullia is an unfortunate victim. The blue creature has been trying to get out for weeks... they think it's a prisoner mistakenly and are forced to kill it in self defense. They then have to destroy the golem before escaping to our world using the tablet. There's a loud explosion and Maldrigar is knocked out. The Rebels intend to gather more of our weapons and armor to fight back. They are awefully well-armored and well-armed for Rebels. Don't you find it too convenient your combat armors have been disappearing one by one?" What do you think happened?"

| A review of the recordings reveals several clues. The "rebels" lying dead in the laboratory were completely different in garb and gear than the members of the so-called "Black Hand" that the group had battled on the way to Bastion. However, like the men on the road, the gear carried by these men looks like it was of good quality, and in relatively good condition. You rewind and look carefully over the fallen but find no discerning marks. The only one bearing wounds was the man lying dead in the doorway with the giant lizard-thing. A careful look of the laboratory reveals several other things of note. Maldrigar was found right in front of his scrying globe, which now bears a deep crack that issues a steady stream of faint gray smoke. There are faint blast marks around the base of the sphere that indicates that some sort of explosion radiated out from it; similar marks on Maldrigar's clothes suggest he was right in front of it when it went off. However, the blast damage does not explain the wizard's currently comatose state. The two power crystals that were once in the laboratory are now gone. The lock on the black cabinet in the rear of the chamber had been quickly and obviously forced. You didn't get any inside shots so you're not sure what, if anything, was taken. Lady Tertullia bore no wounds on her at all, but a careful look of the film shows a faint discoloration on the side of her neck, partially covered by her hair.

Hey all. Just a heads-up that next Monday's session will be the last before our winter hiatus. With December 24 and December 31 being holidays, we'll pick up the campaign on January 7th. Thanks to all for continuing to commit to our ongoing game. With NWN being such an old game now, it's great that we can keep this going for as long as we have. I'm really impressed that you all manage to post each week, and keep the campaign growing with great character development and roleplaying. I hope that you all decide to remain with us into 2008, and I'm really looking forward to seeing what I can do with Mulu's X-COM campaign. At the moment, I anticipate Guns, Goblins, and Steel occupying us through February 2008, and likely well into March. Happy holidays! LB

Torrin listened to Oki's explanation with growing unease. His face grew darker as her words sunk in. Rebels had killed or caused the death of Lady Tertullia and possibly Maldrigar. Who these rebels were or what they wanted he didn't know. All he did know, was that they would need to be brought to justice. He stood up slowly and walked over to Oki. "Oki, though I do not understand this magic you are able to command with your machine, might I see what you have captured?"

Oki replayed the images Torrin's benefit, understanding that this was perhaps the first time he had really watched this type of technology ever in his life. She explained, "This machine called a video camera captures images as they happen. It has a limited amount of space, so I transfer that information to this machine, a computer, to make room for more images. From there it gets complicated there's no need to get into details just yet." She then brought up the images of the scenes to show Torrin: "the crime scene" including the various elements; the side by side comparison of the Rebels from the different scenes (pre-Bastion and Lady Tertullia's murder); Lady Tertullia's strange wounds; the Lab-fight & theft; the equipment they had; etc. Anything else reasonable requested too.

It had been a grim day, and despite their surroundings being pretty far from any notion of 'cell' Joe recognised, there was a good chance it could get worse. The mood of the men was dispirited, confused. They didn't know what was going to happen next. He had to keep them focussed on something. And that thing was their survival. "They might try to pin this on us," Joe confided to his sergeant, and to the members of the squad who weren't native. "I'm hoping they don't. It'd be real dumb if they did, because anyone can see it's nothing to do with us. But if they do..." He sighed. He didn't want to give this order, but he was being given no choice. "If they do, then we don't stick around to lose our heads. We go straight to extraction protocol. The word is 'Vouchsafe'. If the word is given... all bets are off, and we get out of here." He gave them a moment to let that sink in. "Are we clear?"

Oki replied, "Clear. Vulcanos and I can cast invisibility on most or all of us when the time comes. It won't last long, so we have to move fast. Once a person is invisible they can't attack or it's dispelled. Vulcanos could cast on the Lieutenant, the Sergeant and himself, and I could cast on Torrin, Phil and myself, and Adrian could walk in shadows. We'd be gone in 20 seconds."

Joe gave the floor a dark look, and answered in a quiet voice. "We'd still have to get out of these quarters, past the doors. If it came to fighting the guards, do you really think Torrin and Vulcanos are going to back us up? I wouldn't bet on it, if I had to."

Phil looked back and forth as Joe explained the plan and got more and more confused. They had not had anything to do with killing the old mage or the dead folk laying about. He was glad abut one thing; he would not have to step into that circle of death. But he sure wish he knew who they were going to extract! However he thought the code word was pretty funny. He snapped to attention and said, " Sir, Yes sir. Couch safe, Sir" A stupid smile covering his face, he would not forget that password.!

Vulcanos peered over Torrin's shoulder as Oki showed the grisly images. A different type of scrying device, though one that does not appear to be emitting much arcane energy. A few minutes later, after hearing Torrin's response to the Lieutenant's proposal, he felt compelled to step in. "There is no need to worry about escape and such. I can testify that you had nothing to do with the Lady Tertullia's death, and I expect the Duke will very much want to get to the bottom of this. There are some with much more obvious motives than you. And those marks on the Lady's neck, hmm....in any case, let us see if we can find those responsible."

We'll start tonight by clarifying your situation after the attack last time. You aren't quite being held in cells (although there are guards present, and you are not permitted to depart), and your gear has not been taken from you, but I will make sure that you have a chance to evaluate matters and take action before the situation resolves.

Adrian returns from his scouting with out important news. He found nothing to notice, not a forgotten door or window that shows traces that was used by the perpetrators, not a room with signs, nothing… not even Phil’s armor. Nothing, frustrated and sad Adrian returns to the rest of the squad and is about to inform when he hears the Lieutenant’s words, which brings big concerns on the specialist. During his sneak he saw plenty of guards, for sure if they were force to an urgent escape that wouldn’t be easy, especially for those noisy to move. Adrian leaves shadows, and takes his hand to his Kaba. Yes Sir understood Sir.

OOC: *shamelessly edits previous posts to reflect LB's clarification* IC: Joe looked up, irked that the conversation had been in earshot of the priest and the magician after all. "We're not exactly the Captain of the Guard's favourite people, that much is clear. Either that, or..." He frowned. "Something about this just feels wrong. If these guys were rebels, or whatever, who live in the South, how in the hell did they know to get here so fast and steal our thing? I mean, I guess that's what they were after... what else could they've wanted?" "Either way, we get stopped every time we walk up to the palace. These guys got in... killed someone," and the frown became a scowl, "Broke into the lab, took out the big robot and the frog monster, grabbed a whole bunch of heavy stuff, booby-trapped Maldrigar's TV, and... and what? Disappeared into thin air?" "I don't know about you, but something about that screams 'inside job' to me. Unless they really did disappear into thin air."

Oki thought for a moment then replied, "They are so well-equipped, I think, consider this: we call it 'Beam me down, Scotty' ie transporters, they seem to call it teleportation. Suppose they just teleported it here, and skipped going in through the front doors? We'd use Tazers, they might use vampires or poison-bladed daggers. We'd use bazookas or C-4, who knows what explosive spells they have?"

I won't be going out of town until Christmas Day. I don't have any plans for New Years right now, but that may change. So I could make Christmas Eve, but I don't know about New Year's Eve yet - then again, I may be doing a party/BBQ the Saturday before (the 28th), so I may be around.

Cast DM [Lazybones] General Bones: Players [Jenniza] Oki Tawanaka: [Smart_Alec] Joe 'Sunny' Abnett: [mannedoc] Adrian Aguirre: [TheBaldMan] Manfred "Phil” Filamento: [Jacura] Torrin Jhelem: [Chizbo] Vulcanos Mencius: Scene: Camar Guest Quarters The Squad and the others have come to view this as their unofficial glorified prison area. Phil: *stands at attention* Adrian: *stays alert* Lt. Abnett: C4 makes noise. Vulcanos: Hopefully we will have some idea of who was responsible for this soon. Vulcanos: I promise you, the Duke's justice can be swift. Phil: *mutters couch safe underbreath trying to memorize it* Torrin: *meditates* Lt. Abnett: That's kinda what I'm worried about, Vulcanos. Chancellor Idar enters. Chancellor Idar: Ah, greetings. I trust you are all well? Oki: As well as can be Chancellor Idar: His Grace apologizes for the inconvenience, and begs your patience while he completes his investigation. Lt. Abnett: *flat, are-you-an-idiot look at the Chancellor* Phil: *eyes Chancellor and stops moving lips* Chancellor Idar: Ser priest. His Holiness tends to the injured Court Mage himself, and asks that you attend to the Duke's guests while they wait. Torrin: *seems oblivious to the Chancellor* Lt. Abnett: We haven't even been talked to. Is there a reason we're being kept? Chancellor Idar: If there is anything I can... Chancellor Idar: Oh, His Grace merely wants to ensure that the investigation is thorough. I am sure he will summon you soon enough. Vulcanos: Perhaps some entertainment for our guests, Chancellor. Some bards, or dancers, or the like? Chancellor Idar: I apologize for the lack of servants or attendants. The castle staff is being ... ah, thoroughly interviewed. Torrin: *slowly comes out of his meditations* Ah, Chancellor. Please forgive my rudeness. What news do you bring? Lt. Abnett: *sidelong look at the sorceror* Vulcanos: Our guests do not enjoy being cooped up like this. A bit of amusement would be helpful. Perhaps dancers from an inn in the Docks? Chancellor Idar: Oh, excuse me, I did not mean to disturb your prayers, ser priest. Oki: News is more important Chancellor Idar: I am afraid that the citadel has been closed to outside guests for the moment. Torrin: *smiles* No problems, Chancellor. Oki: what can you tell us so far Chancellor Idar: I will come and bring additional word as soon as I can. Until then, there are foodstuffs in the adjacent pantry. Torrin: *the smile fades as he crosses his arms* Yes. How goes the investigation? Chancellor Idar: I am afraid I cannot comment on the investigation, Lady Tawanaka. Oki: sigh Chancellor Idar: His Holiness attends upon the injured mage. He has not yet woken. Chancellor Idar: I will bring word as soon as I know more. Torrin: Hmm... Chancellor Idar: Thank you again for your patience; I am sure we will know more soon. Torrin: Thank you, Chancellor. Chancellor Idar exits. The group mills about at this point. Vulcanos: *sits down to read a book* Phil: *eys pantry* Lt. Abnett: *shakes his head, and begins field-stripping his rifle for the third time so far* Torrin: *takes some food from the pantry* Rusty Nails: Sir. I checked out the entire complex. All of the exits are either locked or guarded. Lt. Abnett: At ease, then. Looks like we're in this for the long haul. Torrin: **sits down to eat* Lt. Abnett: I guess you've all realised by now that the chances of us going home any time soon are getting smaller. Oki: I'm beginning to think the chances of us living are getting smaller and smaller Phil: Maybe we should just walk.... Torrin: I would not recommend that, Phil. Oki: *gets something to eat* Lt. Abnett: *quietly* We're not dying. Not in this place. *begins reassembling rifle* Hours pass, without event. The afternoon slips into early evening. Oki: *works on her reports* Lt. Abnett: Ok... watch rotation... Vulcanos: *is one to third book* Vulcanos: *..on to..* Lt. Abnett: Phil, Rusty, you're up. Wake me if anything happens. Rusty Nails: Yessir. Torrin: *looks the books over* Lt. Abnett: Gimme 4 hours. Torrin: *snorts in disgust and turns to Vulcanos. Vulcanos, what are your thoughts on what happened? Vulcanos: Ah, Torrin. The Duke has "The Golden Age of Drusia" in ten volumes, a rare work. Vulcanos: *smiles* Not in the mood for reading, are you? Torrin: I would prefer deeper work. Chancellor Idar enters. Chancellor Idar: Good evening. Vulcanos: Yes, well, what happened...*stops at hearing Chancellor's voice* Torrin: *sweeps hands across bookshelf* Yes, but not this drivvel. Chancellor Idar: Is your lieutenant available? Oki: *looks up from her computer recordings* Vulcanos: *nods to Torrin and steps forward* Chancellor Idar: His Grace would like to speak with you now. Rusty Nails: I'll go... ah, there he is. Adrian: Here he comes Lt. Abnett: *clearly, was wired!* Oki: *wraps up her work* Chancellor Idar: If you will come with me. Lt. Abnett: Fall in. Chancellor Idar: *waits for everyone* Chancellor Idar: *looks to the stairs* Torrin: Phil, where's Adrian? Chancellor Idar: Two of your men are lingering... the Duke is waiting... Chancellor Idar: Ah, good. Phil: *stupid look* RIght there*;looks back* Torrin: *shakes head* Scene: Main Chamber Chancellor Idar: Your Grace. The strangers, along with Torrin Jhelem and Vulcanos Mencius. Vulcanos: *bows* Grand Duke of Camar: Not quite strangers, not now. Lt. Abnett: Ten-hut. Torrin: *bows* Your Grace. Oki: *films* Grand Duke of Camar: You have aided Camar in the past, and she needs you more now than ever. Phil: *snaps too* Grand Duke of Camar: The enemies of my rule have struck at you as they have struck at me. Lt. Abnett: *blink* Torrin: *frowns* Rebels, sire? Grand Duke of Camar: *smacks hand into his fist, walks back and forth* To attack us here... the gall! Grand Duke of Camar: I had not known their strength had grown such. Lt. Abnett: *listens, pinching the bridge of his nose to stay awake* Grand Duke of Camar: I have been patient, lenient... no longer! Torrin: *looks questioning at Vulcanos* Grand Duke of Camar: These bastards must be destroyed. Grand Duke of Camar: My mage lies in insensate, but the High Priest tells me that the devices they stole possess immeasurable power. Torrin: They will be brought to justice, sire. Vulcanos: You know who is behind this, sire? Grand Duke of Camar: And this tablet, that Maldrigar sent you to recover... Grand Duke of Camar: *nods at Vulcanos* I believe we do. Grand Duke of Camar: *glances back at Brannix* Brannix Delgaron: For some time, we've been keeping tabs on a small group of rebels hiding out in the foothills of the Galerr range, near the border with Elem. Lt. Abnett: *eyes the guard cap'n, tight-lipped* Torrin: *frowns* Grand Duke of Camar: Baron Tarthedes has never been my strongest protagonist, but I do not believe she is going so far as to support rebels. Grand Duke of Camar: But I do not expect much help from her, either. *lips twitch* Torrin: She may not know of them, sire, or feel that they are not a threat. Grand Duke of Camar: These rebels believe themselves safe in the mountains, in their little stronghold. Brannix Delgaron: They call it, "the Aerie" Vulcanos: What manner of rebels are they? Grand Duke of Camar: I have decided it is time to disabuse them of their false sense of security. Brannix Delgaron: Rabble, most of them. Brannix Delgaron: Disaffected fools. Vulcanos: Are they humans? Adrian: [Whisper] *smiles* Don't worry, follow me Torrin: *glances at Brannix but doesn't say anything. Phil: *nods to AA* Grand Duke of Camar: *quiets Brannix with a hand* Most are just simple frontier folk. Humans, yes. Lt. Abnett: *looks dubious* Exactly how far away is this 'Aerie'? Sir. Grand Duke of Camar: However, they may have ... stronger leadership, now, to pull this off. Adrian: [Whisper] But so you feel safe the password is Vouchsafe Vulcanos: It seems puzzling, sire. How can simple frontier folk strike here, at the Archmage himself? Grand Duke of Camar: The Aerie is within the foothills of the Galerr mountains, almost a week's travel distant by fast coursers. Grand Duke of Camar: *frowns* Brannix Delgaron: Obviously they had help. Lt. Abnett: That was kind of what I was getting at. They're a week away, but they knew our tablet was here and got here in two days? Grand Duke of Camar: *shoots a hard look at Brannix* It is possible that the followers of Dagos are giving these rebels aid. Lt. Abnett: Dagos. Rings a bell... Grand Duke of Camar: The tablet might have been an attack of opportunity. Grand Duke of Camar: We believe that they were primarily after the mage's power crystals. Grand Duke of Camar: As well as the ritual that he uses to open the gateway between worlds. Lt. Abnett: *frowns* Hm. Lt. Abnett: *blinks at that* Grand Duke of Camar: Your world is only one of the many that exist, lieutenant. Grand Duke of Camar: Realms that parallel this one... Adrian: *frowns* Grand Duke of Camar: *waves a hand* I do not claim to understand all of the theories myself... Vulcanos: Followers of Dagos are generally not well organized. It would surprise me if they pulled this off, sire. Vulcanos: *shrugs* I suppose there is at least one way to find out. His Holiness Aladon Jariff High Priest of Soleus: *loudly* Suffice it to say, this could be a threat of terrible magnitude... Torrin: We know little of Dagos, Vulcanos. It could very well be that they have or... Grand Duke of Camar: Ah, Aladon. What news? Torrin: *bows* Your Holiness. Lt. Abnett: *breathes out, slowly, through gritted teeth, and turns to face the high priest* His Holiness Aladon Jariff High Priest of Soleus: Maldrigar's condition is unchanged, sire. Vulcanos: *bows* Grand Duke of Camar: Well, the rebels made one gross miscalculation. Grand Duke of Camar: They did not count on _you_. Brannix Delgaron: *mutters something* Grand Duke of Camar: *shoots a steely look at Brannix* Lt. Abnett: I see. So, you would like us to go to these foothills, and... investigate? Find what was taken, ideally? Grand Duke of Camar: Lieutenant, your interests and ours intersect. Torrin: *surpresses a smile* Lt. Abnett: They do keep doing that. Grand Duke of Camar: Indeed. Those power crystals, the books detailing the ritual... the tablet... Grand Duke of Camar: Those are needed to open the way back to your world. Lt. Abnett: *thinks* Grand Duke of Camar: The rebels have proven themselves more resourceful than I had estimated, but you have proven your talents and resourcefulness many times over. Grand Duke of Camar: Find these rebels. Show them that Camar's people will not live in fear. Lt. Abnett: *looks back at the squad, noting their expressions* Phil: *stupid look on face* Torrin: It shall be done, sire. The rebels will be brought to justice. Brannix Delgaron: I have a column of troops that will escort you to Caldisar, a village near the foothills. His Holiness Aladon Jariff High Priest of Soleus: We must trust in the Light to show us the right path. Lt. Abnett: I'm embarrassed to even ask this, but - Adrian: *a bit unconfortable, but eyes with a supporting expresion to Joe* His Holiness Aladon Jariff High Priest of Soleus: If these rebels choose to hide in the darkness, they must be brought to see the error of their ways. Grand Duke of Camar: Yes, lieutenant? Lt. Abnett: This 'helping out Camar' thing has not worked out so well for us. The gold you gave us has long been spent on supplies and other sundries to keep us alive. And, even now, our armour is being repaired and likely won't be ready for some days yet. Grand Duke of Camar: I will see to that, lieutenant. Lt. Abnett: If you're going to send us out there now we could at least use some rearming, if not resupplying. His Holiness Aladon Jariff High Priest of Soleus: The Church will see to your needs as well. It is the least we can do. Lt. Abnett: *nod* Lt. Abnett: I would guess... armour's our most pressing need. Grand Duke of Camar: The hour is late. Get some rest. The company will leave in the morning, and I will personally see to it that you do not leave unprepared. Grand Duke of Camar: And lieutenant. Mage. Priest. The honor of all Camar rests in your hands. Phil: *whispers to AA* I hope he ask for that ointment Vulcanos: Very well, sire. Torrin: Of course, sire. Lt. Abnett: *nods, and gives as sincere a salute as he can manage* Adrian: *nods* Vulcanos: *bows* Torrin: *bows* His Holiness Aladon Jariff High Priest of Soleus: Torrin will represent the Church, and see to it that this mission is a success. Oki: thank you, your grace *and redons the cloak* Grand Duke of Camar: I thank you all. * nods in dismissal* Vulcanos: And I wil strike a blow for the archmage, Soleus willing. Brannix Delgaron: I'll see you in the courtyard at dawn. Don't be late. Lt. Abnett: Is anyone surprised at this turn of events? His Holiness Aladon Jariff High Priest of Soleus: Torrin. A word. Torrin: Of course. Vulcanos: *shrugs* Adrian: No Sir... I'm not surprised Torrin: Yes, yoru Grace? Adrian: Somehow things happens and we are push to get involved Lt. Abnett: Sharp man, Aguirre. Let's go... hit the sack. Adrian: Yes Sir Phil: SIr yea sir Lt. Abnett: *breathes outward, thinking* Oki: thank you, Lieutenat for your faith Lt. Abnett: Faith? Adrian: Huh? Oki: in gettin gus out of this His Holiness Aladon Jariff High Priest of Soleus: It may be nothing... but I had heard that he was sent on the Bastion mission to get him out of Camar. Torrin: *narrows eyes* I...see, your Grace. Thank you. I shall keep a very sharp eye on him. Adrian: We will prevail ma'am... we are not easy Lt. Abnett: I want to get this all fixed as much as anyone. His Holiness Aladon Jariff High Priest of Soleus: Odd, that he be found there at the same time as these odd warnings of attack... Lt. Abnett: Not to mention that these bastards killed or hurt the only two people in this town who ever seemed pleased to see us. Vulcanos: Well, Lieutenant, I was pleased to see you. Adrian: *smiles* Vulcanos: So at least 3 such people were here in Camar. Lt. Abnett: Well, you know. You're kind of one of 'us' by now, I guess. Lt. Abnett: Or it's getting that way. Vulcanos: *smiles* Thank you. Vulcanos: We may have a long trip ahead. Lt. Abnett: Get beds, men. I'm fine here. Adrian: Sure Sir? Lt. Abnett: *nod* Adrian: i'm not tired Vulcanos: What did he say to you, Torrin? Torrin: *sits* Vulcanos, we were discussing the events in the lab... Adrian: *salutes* Lt. Abnett: *holds his head in his hands* Torrin: **waves a hand in dismissal* Religous matters. Vulcanos: *nods* Of course. Torrin: He worries that this may be the work of Dagos, but has no proof...yes, Oki? Adrian: All this is too confusing Phil Oki: oh i was just going to look at the books Vulcanos: Dagos - bah, that seems a smokescreen. Phil: *nods* I thought I was the only one Torrin: *smiles* Of course. You may not find very heavy fair, but there may be a volume or two that will interest you. Oki: what is this about Dagos? Adrian: no.. you are not Vulcanos: Oh, Oki, I can recommend "The Golden Age of Drusia" for some history of our lands. Phil: WHy did LT tell us to get beds...this thing is to big to take out of here*looks at large bed* Vulcanos: Start with the first volume. Phil: He should just come in here and sleep Adrian: I'm going with the LT Torrin: Dagos is the Lord of Deaht, also known as "The Stranger." His rituals are shrouded in mystery and his followers no less so. The night deepens. Adrian: he is to concern to be able to rest Torrin: He is not an "evil" god, per se, but his worship is frowned upon in the realm. Phil: *plunks in bed resting* Lt. Abnett: *stares up at the ceiling, either communing with something or someone, or just examining the patterns up there* Acolyte: M'lord. Vulcanos: Dagos is also the god of knowledge, luck, and protection. Lt. Abnett: Hm? Oh. Yes, sorry. Acolyte: The High Priest bade me come. Is Priest Jhelem present here? Vulcanos: *smiles* ...and death. Lt. Abnett: Torrin? He's around, ma'am. Lt. Abnett: Torrin? Torrin: Yes, and death. Whereas Soliues is the lord of life and light. Torrin: Yes? Adrian: Priest.. some one looking for you Torrin: Ah, thank you. If you two will excuse me... Lt. Abnett: He'll be right here. Vulcanos: Soleus enforces adherence to his laws. Dagos does not prescribe how men should live. Torrin: Yes? Acolyte: Torrin, His Holiness asked me to deliver these to you. *holding two large satchels* Adrian: *points to the acolyte with chin movement* Torrin: Thank you. Vulcanos: Torrin, being a priest of Soleus, Oki, does not have much balance in his view of these matters. Lt. Abnett: *looks the supplies over* Acolyte: And this is something special that he asked me to give to you directly. *hands over a small parcel wrapped in soft silk cloth* Torrin: *takes it* Thank you, child. Lt. Abnett: You literally are a lifesaver. *salute* Acolyte: Good luck to you, to all of you. Lady Tertullia was... much loved. Lt. Abnett: ... I'll bet. Torrin: Thank you, child. Walk in the light. Torrin: Joe, divide up the supplies as you see fit. Lt. Abnett: Ok. Torrin: I will take one of the healing satchels, though. Phil: *takes post to gaurd* Lt. Abnett: Oki, if you take the other set of satchels... and everyone take a bunch of these potions. Torrin: Phil, follow me. Lt. Abnett: That should do it. Adrian: Yes Sir Phil: *looks puzzled* Shortly before dawn, two soldiers appear, carrying heavy burdens. Torrin: *roots in his pack and takes out a jar of what looks like jelly* Adrian: Sir going to take an extra one... just in case the Sergeant changes his mind Torrin: *hands it to Phil* Remember, Phil, only use this at night and away from the others. Camarian Soldier: We were told to bring these here. Phil: *smiles* Oh good I was about to run out! Lt. Abnett: Come on. Phil: *take jar* Lt. Abnett: In. Torrin: I figured as much. I've seen you apply it. You can use less, Phil, a little goes a long way. Lt. Abnett: Nice... Phil: Oh Okay TOrrin *packs it carefully away* Torrin: *smiles slightly* And I'm sure the others would appreciate it as well. Lt. Abnett: Looks good as new! Oh, hey there, uh... Mr. Zendarin? Phil: If you say so Torrin*looks a bit puzzled* Arius Zendarin: I heard that you lot are heading out to deal with those rebels. Arius Zendarin: Dismissed, soldiers. Lt. Abnett: Something like that. Torrin: *claps Phil on the shoulder* Take my word for it, child. Come, let's rejoin the others. Arius Zendarin: Well, I took up a collection among some of the men among the garrison. Arius Zendarin: Show those bastards that Camar isn't toothless. Lt. Abnett: We'll do our best. Oki: //I'll give these potions to Rusty Torrin: Justice will be served, Arius. Arius Zendarin: *hands over a quiver bulging with arrows* Lt. Abnett: *raises an eyebrow* Arius Zendarin: Those are called "Scorchers". Arius Zendarin: Put a right hot fire on your target. Lt. Abnett: Hm! Aguirre... see what you make of these. Phil: *whispers to AA* We drinkin this now? Adrian: thank you Sir Arius Zendarin: Here. Arius Zendarin: This a shield used by the Ducal Guard themselves. Lt. Abnett: Woah, that's... big. Arius Zendarin: They bear a potent magical enchantment upon them. Arius Zendarin: Yes, they are unwieldy, but the protection is excellent. Arius Zendarin: I wish you all good luck. I almost wish I was ten years younger, and going with you. Adrian: not yet Phil.. keep it for when you are wounded and feel really bad Torrin: *smiles* As do we. Phil: Okay Lt. Abnett: Thanks, sir. Arius Zendarin: Well, I understand you're riding out at dawn. Good luck to you all. Walk in the Light. Phil: maybe we should take the mean guy with the big sword with us Double A? Lt. Abnett: *salute* Adrian: Did he bring my shield Sir? Lt. Abnett: I don't think so. He didn't bring mine either. Torrin: His place is here, Phil, not with us. Besdies, I do not think he would accompany us. Lt. Abnett: This is huge. Phil, can you use this? General Bones: [Shout] ooc If you want your old shields back, I can see about fixing them for next time. Phil: Yup you want his tiny one I been usin? Lt. Abnett: I wouldn't mind. Phil: SIr this one fits me good Sir*sounds excited* Adrian: Thank you Sir Torrin: We will make a knight of you yet, Phil. Lt. Abnett: Ok, we got... maybe an hour before we got to set out. Let's get suited up. Phil: Good, then I get a big fluffy hat like tose knights of Columbus...but I aint Catholic Adrian: sorry Priest Torrin: No bother. Phil: Yup Lt. Abnett: Hup hup hup! Phil: I'll go get him Phil: LT this fella needs ya Adrian: let's go with the others ma'am Lt. Abnett: We're all ready now. I think. Ducal Guard: All right. This way. Lt. Abnett: *eyes Rusty's zoot suit* Scene: Outside Castle Doors Brannix Delgaron: Ah, there you are. Brannix Delgaron: Got your beauty sleep? Phil: *stands at attention* Lt. Abnett: And don't we look fabulous for it? Brannix Delgaron: We're going to have a long ride ahead. We've arranged for remounts along the way. Brannix Delgaron: I intend to make the journey in four days, not six. Lt. Abnett: Riding, huh. Brannix Delgaron: _If_ you and your men can keep up... Adrian: *shakes head* Lt. Abnett: We'll... we'll keep up, don't you worry. Brannix Delgaron: All right. Vulcanos: *whispers to Torrin* You may need to heal some sore behinds. General Bones: [Shout] You set out on a hard journey south. Phil: *wonders were else he can use ointment* Oki: too bad you don't have Bradleys we could do it in two Torrin: *whispers back* We'll see. The terrain rapidly blurs into a mixture of forests, hills, plains, and villages, when you're lucky. Lt. Abnett: Heeyaa! Brannix keeps the troup organized, and requisitions supplies at the villages you pass through. The terrain grows rougher on the fourth day, and the villages are left behind. Torrin: //Funny. I feel like my life is flashing before my eyes... Lt. Abnett: Augh. General Bones: [Shout] You ride well into the night, and fall exhausted into camp. Torrin: *makes most of the trip in stoic silence, eyes staring straight ahead* Lt. Abnett: *cough* General Bones: [Shout] On the morning of the fifth day, Brannix escorts you down the road... Brannix Delgaron: Well. You kept up after all. Torrin: Was there any doubt? Brannix Delgaron: This here's Caldisar. Phil: *rubs arse* Oki: this was better than camels at least Brannix Delgaron: My men are going to camp in that dell we reached last night. Lt. Abnett: Caldisar. This Baron lives here? Brannix Delgaron: I have my orders. Brannix Delgaron: *snorts* Caldisar is a boil on the frontier, a nowhere. Brannix Delgaron: This here's the end of the line. Lt. Abnett: Right. Vulcanos: How should we find this Aerie? Brannix Delgaron: Elem's another day to the west. Brannix Delgaron: There's a trail to the south. Leads up into the foothills. Brannix Delgaron: There's a guide here who can help you. Name of Marcus. Lt. Abnett: Marcus... Phil: There's a Lady over there AA*sounds worried* Brannix Delgaron: Don't muck this up. Adrian: *whispers back* Steady Phil... this is not friendly ground Lt. Abnett: I am gonna have to ask that guy where his attitude comes from... Adrian: Alllow me the honor Sir... just one day Adrian: *grins* Torrin: He is an arrogant sort, but with good reason. Phil: Pappy would say he has his britches in a bundle Torrin: You would likely not survive, Adrian. Vulcanos: Do not mind him. He has spent his whole life fighting the enemies of the Duke. There is no softness left in him. Lt. Abnett: *shrug* Hmf. Anyway, it's probably painfully obvious to all that we're here from Camar, but let's keep our cloaks off and our 'In the name of the Duke's out of this. Vulcanos: *looks at his cloak* Adrian: *sinks into shadows* Oki: *cloak off* Lt. Abnett: Hey there! Villager: What brings you to Caldisar? Lt. Abnett: Travelling to Elem! Lt. Abnett: There a guy named Marcus around? Villager: Well. Quite off the beaten path, to bring you out here. Villager: Marcus, the hunter? Torrin: That is he, yes. Villager: Why, he was out in the woods earlier. Brave man or a fool, that one. Lt. Abnett: Heh, yeah... might've got a bit lost. Yeah, we hear he's the man for the roads around here... Adrian: *smiles* Adrian: *under the cover of shadows* Villager: That's his house over there. *points ot the SW* Lt. Abnett: *nod* Thanks. Villager: I imagine he'll be back before too long. Good day. Lt. Abnett: You too. Torrin: Good day. Lt. Abnett: Hm. *nods, satisfied* Lt. Abnett: *looks up at the sign* Be right back. The rest of you, find this guy's house, unless you've got urgent shopping needs. There doesn't seem to be much to the little town. To the south, the woods deepen almost at once to a dense thicket. Torrin: *knocks on the door* Adrian: Phil Olivia Demitris: Welcome to my shop. Would you like to see my wares? Lt. Abnett: Yes. I'd like to see what you have for sale. Phil: Yes, Double A? Adrian: *whispers* i will explore the sorroundings Torrin: *frowns* Olivia Demitris: Well now, strangers! What brings you to Caldisar? Adrian: Stay close of the Priest and protect him Phil: Oh, Okay Vulcanos: There is a man to the south. Lt. Abnett: Got a bit lost, ma'am! We were heading to Elem. Olivia Demitris: Not much cause for such finely dressed... and well armed... folk to come all the way out here... Olivia Demitris: Welcome to my shop. Would you like to see my wares? Olivia Demitris: *chats amiably* Oki: Yes. I'd like to see what you have for sale. Vulcanos: *points* Perhaps he can help us. Torrin: Hail. Torrin: Yes, we seek the woodsman Marcus. Phil: *smiles* Torrin: Greetings, I am Torrin, priest of Soleus. This is Vulcanos and Phil, my companions. Lt. Abnett: Well, whaddayaknow... grenades. Lt. Abnett: Or molotov cocktails at any rate. Torrin: Yes, unfortunantly. But, we come seeking something in the woods. Lt. Abnett: Ok, Oki. South-west. Lt. Abnett: See you there. General Bones: [Tell] The woman makes a lot of smalltalk. Asks a lot of questions about you, where you're from, the like. Oki: [Tell] gives very little information General Bones: [Tell] okay. Torrin: *turns around to Joe* Joe, this is Marcus. Torrin: Marcus, Joe. Lt. Abnett: Mr. Marcus *nod* We've seen some unfriendly woods in our time. Lt. Abnett: It works. For a while anyway. Woodsman: Just Marcus. I don't hire myself out as a guide anymore, but I can give you information, that's free. Torrin: My other two associates, Oki and Adrian. This is Marcus. Woodsman: What brings you to Caldisar, if I may ask? Woodsman: *nods respectfully* m'lady. Adrian: *nods* Oki: *curtseys* Lt. Abnett: *rubs chin* Lt. Abnett: We're a patrol. Woodsman: Hmm. Thought it was something like that. Lt. Abnett: *nod* Woodsman: You lot have "Camar" written on you like a parchment scroll. Vulcanos: Some kind of trouble in these woods? Any rebels? Woodsman: Well. The woods are tough, but you look like you can handle yourselves. Woodsman: Rebels? I don't know anything about that. I make it a point to stay out of Camar's business. Torrin: We are not without our talents. Lt. Abnett: *tries to keep a blank face as Vulcanos spills the beans, but it's hard; so hard!* Woodsman: But if you're looking for a clear route to the foothills, you can find a trail to the south of here. Woodsman: Things get rough real fast, in the mountains. Vulcanos: A wise man, Marcus. We aren't used to these woods, not at all. Woodsman: Keep an eye out. There's a pack of fell hounds new to the woods. Been seeing their spur all week. Woodsman: And they're not the biggest threat. Vulcanos: What is? Woodsman: Woods belongs to a pack of trolls. Nasty bastards. Lt. Abnett: 'Trolls'? Lt. Abnett: *looks to Oki* Classic stuff. Woodsman: You really don't get out of the city, do you? Vulcanos: Large creatures, difficult to kill. They like to eat humans. Phil: There are bridges in the woods?*looks puzzled8 Torrin: A humanoid that can regenerate its wounds. Woodsman: A number of "patrols" have disappeared into the woods. Woodsman: You come to look for them, that's probably where they are. Woodsman: If you're looking for something else... well, like I said, I don't get involved in such things. Phil: *mutters* Trolls eat goats Woodsman: But the trail will take you clear to the mountains. Lt. Abnett: Fair enough. We'll... keep our eyes peeled for these 'Trolls'. Vulcanos: Thanks, Marcus. Woodsman: Good luck to you. Torrin: Thank you, Marcus. Walk in the light. Lt. Abnett: Ok! Aguirre, you have point; Torrin, you're lead; Phil, take the rear. Lt. Abnett: Tactical column, people. Let's do this right. Torrin: Ready when you are. Phil: Sir, Yes SIr Lt. Abnett: South when you're ready, Aguirre. Adrian: Yes Sir Adrian: Ready here Sir Lt. Abnett: You know, the giant bear doesn't surprise me. That, in itself, is surprising. Oki: sounds like your typical episode of star trek, stargate sg-1, stargate atlantis etc, land on alien planet, no idea what to expeect, expect the worst Adrian: *Sign of stop* Lt. Abnett: *eyes Vulcanos's red shirt* Adrian: Sir.. two creatures Lt. Abnett: 'Creatures'. Torrin: What type? Oki: *films* Adrian: That look like wolves.. but i could swear they are not usual wolves... there is somenthing strange on them Adrian: some evil erradiates from them Lt. Abnett: Guess that's be those bad wolves the man mentioned. Can we avoid? Torrin: Where are they? Adrian: *points forward* Lt. Abnett: Oh yeah. Torrin: They should be destroyed before they attack the town. Adrian: What kind of creatures is that? Lt. Abnett: Targets. The hounds seem to be working on the corpse of some animal they've killed. Adrian: Sir? *turns to Joe waiting* Oki: spoken like the Torrin i've come to respect Lt. Abnett: Ok, permission to engage. Let's get their attention. Torrin, Phil, intercept them. Torrin: Stand aside, Adrian. Fell Hound : [Shout] *howls* Adrian: more to come Lt. Abnett: Aw what? Adrian: Sir.. did you see that? Lt. Abnett: Juh! Adrian: *looks surprised and confused* Lt. Abnett: Nests - hornets - the stirring up of Adrian: One of the creatures retired to call for reinforcements Lt. Abnett: Agreed. That was freaky. Adrian: That is unusuall.. these creatures are intelligent Lt. Abnett: Anyone hurt? Vulcanos: These beasts sometimes have an evil cunning. Adrian: Fine here Sir Lt. Abnett: ... well... good. Lt. Abnett: "Bring 'em on." Oki: Should i heal your bear? Lt. Abnett: Let's go. Torrin: If you wish, Oki. Summoned Dire Bear: *snuffles at Oki* General Bones: [Shout] Searching the area, you come across the trail that Marcus had mentioned. General Bones: [Shout] It leads deeper into the woods... Adrian: *Sign of stop* Adrian: A boar Adrian: We might be able to avoid it Lt. Abnett: That's one giant pig. Adrian: Come this way Lt. Abnett: Don't lose sight of the trail, now. Adrian: *Sign of stop* Adrian: What in the nine hells was taht Lt. Abnett: What the heck was- Adrian: Did you see that thing? Vulcanos: Troll. Torrin: That, my friends, is a troll. Lt. Abnett: I'm seeing it... yeesh. Vulcanos: It is dangerous. Adrian: I thought it was Karim abdul javar Torrin: Very. Vulcanos: Several of them could be fatal to us, if there are enough. Adrian: Sir... we are in a tough situation Lt. Abnett: Aguirre, see if you can spot any more. Everyone else; back up. Torrin: Do you have a fireball, Vulcanos? Vulcanos: I have many fireballs. Adrian: In front we have that thing.. and in our back the big pig Adrian: They come Lt. Abnett: Aw hell, what happened? Lt. Abnett: Don't let it c- nice. Lt. Abnett: Where was it running to? Vulcanos: Be wary for more. Torrin: Most likely a nest. Vulcanos: It was probably getting help Lt. Abnett: You know, I think I see it. Scene: Tree in forest with hole in ground below it. Unpleasant odors waft from the deep hole in the ground here. Torrin: *pinches nose* Yes, this must be the nest. Lt. Abnett: *Looks down at the hole, thinking* Oki: troll hole sir? Lt. Abnett: Guess so. Lt. Abnett: *stares at it for a long while* Adrian: *peeks out and makes a sign to indicate clear* Lt. Abnett: ... ok. We're going in. Vulcanos: The trolls are not bothering the villagers. We could avoid trouble and proceed to seeking this Aerie. Adrian: *peeks out again this time sign to stop* Oki: why are we going into a troll hole? Lt. Abnett: From the words of that woodcutter guy, they've attacked patrols... Adrian: This place is full of those creatures... we should move slow Vulcanos: His word seemed dubious to me. Vulcanos: He may have been in cahoots with the rebels. Vulcanos: ...or perhaps a sympathizer. Oki: we going in sir? Adrian: Where are the others Priest? Lt. Abnett: Well, we're here because of them. *sigh* Let;s at least give it a look. Torrin: Probably still outside. Vulcanos: Not good at avoiding trouble, are you ? *smiles* Adrian: Then wait for me here... let me see if i find out how many Phil: *shrugs* Torrin: Becareful. Torrin: Wait here for Adrian. Lt. Abnett: *whisper* Report Lt. Abnett: *nod* Adrian: Two to the left Adrian: or right in the positio i'm standing Adrian: ahead is clear so far... but didn't want to go deeper Lt. Abnett: *waits for Phil and Oki* Phil: *pulls Oki out of muck* Vulcanos: Do you wish to clean out this nest? Phil: *then pulls Rusty* Lt. Abnett: Well, while we're here... Torrin: I would rather do that than have them possibly attack others. Adrian: Want me to go deeper and see what I find out Sir? Lt. Abnett: *shakes head* Take the two to the left first. Torrin: *stares levely at Vulcanos* Plus I have a duty to destroy evil creatures. Adrian: Right sir.. I can lure them to us Vulcanos: Don't let them sound the alarm. Lt. Abnett: Let's face it, Vulcanos, we're storming a rebel fortress. How much harder can this be? Adrian: Sergeant Lt. Abnett: Comsider it... practice. Vulcanos: Of course, it all makes sense. Lt. Abnett: Phil, up front Torrin: Oki, please stand with Vulcanos. Lt. Abnett: If they don't know we're here by now, they're the dumbest trolls ever. Lt. Abnett: Let's do it. Go go. Phil: They must make that ointment from them things! Lt. Abnett: That flamy sword... hurts 'em bad. Torrin: *peers down the passage* Adrian: Looks so Sir Summoned Dire Bear: *sniffs at Oki's hand* Adrian: another hole behind me Lt. Abnett: Waves to the right* Oki: *pets bear* Phil: *waves flamin sword smiling* Adrian: *Sign of stop* Troll : [Shout] *loud shriek, attacks!* Oki: come on Yogi Adrian: two and coming After pitched combat... Oki filmed it. Lt. Abnett: Report? Oki: *thumbs up* Adrian: I suggest we move slower... we are in the middle of what seems to be a nest Oki: great shots Phil: Sir the Bear looks bad SIr Lt. Abnett: Ok; they're big... they're the freakiest things ever; but we can take 'em. Oki: come on Yogi Vulcanos: Troll priest up ahead. Lt. Abnett: Troll *priest*? Vulcanos: He appears to be preparing for us. Lt. Abnett: What? Torrin: Hmm? Lt. Abnett: Only one? Oki: Troll....PRIEST? Vulcanos: A bit deeper in. Troll Shaman : [Shout] *you hear incanting from the big cave up ahead* Adrian: *Sign of stop* Lt. Abnett: Sounds bad. Take 'im by surprise! A pair of huge, hulking trolls emerge from the side of the big tunnel, and attack! Adrian: they are not alone Adrian: *leans on the wall* Lt. Abnett: Some kind of... weird. *grabs satchel* The cavern finally falls still, as the last troll falls. Adrian: *breaths hard and with difficulty* Lt. Abnett: *grimaces, and takes a swig from a flask* Oki: *calls him over* Torrin! Torrin: Hmm? Oki: check out this parchment Adrian: *knees to study the terrain around the rock* Torrin: Ugh! Torrin: I'll not touch such a thing! Oki: *puts down three interesting items* *a parchement, an amulet, a potion* Lt. Abnett: Yeah, looked bad to me too. Adrian: *place hand on wall, breating with difficulty* Sir... Vulcanos: A powerful scroll, in the right hands. Adrian: There... there is something odd... odd.. there Lt. Abnett: *frowns at Aguirre* Lt. Abnett: Well, we'll... go see. Vulcanos: *shrugs* I suspect Torrin is the only one who can use it, among us. Unless... *looks at Oki* Lt. Abnett: Take what's good! Leave what's bad. Oki: the amulet a sqaud member could use Adrian: *breaths* I feel heavy priest... weak Torrin: *frowns* Hold still, Adrian. Adrian: hardly can move *nods* Oki: the parchment should be destroyed Adrian: *blinks* Wow... what did you do? Vulcanos: It is a tool, like a sword. Torrin: *smiles* The Shinning Father, my child. Oki: Phil, a yummy potion for beginnings of combat Adrian: Thank you Sir Torrin: Of course. Adrian: I mean Priest Lt. Abnett: Ok. We'll sweep the rest of this place, look for any signs of dead soldiery, and then we'll carry on... Lt. Abnett: Good job, people. That's real 3rd Infantry spirit. Torrin: *to Vulcanos* It is NOT a sword, wizard, it is a foul item that must be destroyed. Oki: does anyone want this amulet? Adrian: Sir, did you see that big rock? For what I could see it was moved to that spot recently Phil: It's not like the last on you gave me is it*sounds worried remembering the after affect* Lt. Abnett: Big rock? *hm* Show me... Oki: it makes you get hit les often Vulcanos: Why, Torrin? It does the same thing to a man that a sword does, just in a different way. Torrin: A sword does not take of life's energies. Lt. Abnett: *Looks at the amulet, and nods when Phil picks it up* Vulcanos: It does if you run someone through with it. Lt. Abnett: Aguirre? Rock. Adrian: Yes Sir, follow me Vulcanos: Poof, life energies gone. Torrin: A sword is a physical tool. That...that thing is an abmoniation. Vulcanos: We both traffic in non-physical tools. Torrin: End of discussion, Vulcanos. I shall not use it. Lt. Abnett: ... you know, you're right. Vulcanos: I don't understand your distinctions. *shrugs* Adrian: *knees and points to some tracks of recent movement* See? It was put here recently Lt. Abnett: I would not have spotted this. Lt. Abnett: Can we move this? Adrian: I'm not sure... looks heavy.. but if we find something to push it Adrian: *looks around* Lt. Abnett: No crowbar... hm. Phil: Want me to push it? Lt. Abnett: *nods at Phil* Let's put our backs into it. Adrian: We can use that sword no one wants as crowbar? Torrin: Stand aside. Lt. Abnett: Ok... Torrin: *smashes the rock with his hammer* Lt. Abnett: *blink* Adrian: *knees, takes his ka-bar to drag out the rock in front of him* Lt. Abnett: We couldn've just... pushed it, but good job. Lt. Abnett: What's this...? Vulcanos: There - how about that for non-physical action. Vulcanos: *smiles at Torrin* Lt. Abnett: What the heck is that...? Torrin: *ignores Vulcanos* Lt. Abnett: *gathers up cash an' items* Phil: How do you keep from gettin you fingers tangled when you wiggle them like that volcanoe Lt. Abnett: We'll see about these when we get out. In the meantime... Oki: *examining items* Adrian: hehehe [Lazybones] General Bones: I'm going to have to run a one-shot or something. Phil: Will miss ya all Lt. Abnett: Ooo, one-shot. [Lazybones] General Bones: [Shout] Maybe I'll run Shrine of the Eth'barat over the holiday sometime....
