Oki replied to the Lieutenant, "Honestly, sir, our best chances, at this point, might include these as our options... none of them pretty, sir: 1) strike out on our own blindly looking for for the tablet/crystals/notes/etc; 2) returning to the Duke immediately and seeking an honorable way out of this mess before we dig ourselves in too deep; 3) sneak about and discover who is behind all these conspiracies... funding the Rebels... misleading the Duke... stealing our stuff... the murder of Lady Tertulia... framing the Rebels... all of it... 4) go all the way with the Rebels and overthrow the Duke; 5) completely go off the deep end and join one of the other more powerful enemies of the Duke or simply take over the planet ourselves... As you can see these ideas express what we are all thinking from the most sane ideas to the most insane ideas. Feel free to fill in the gaps and chuckle and gasp and cross off many of the ideas."

ooc This post assumes that the group remains together in the aftermath of Caldisar.

* * * * *

Time passes. Adrian scouts and reports that the soldiers in the bivouac north of the village have broken camp and headed back toward Camar at best speed. With them being mounted, there is no way you can catch them.

The group is unable to decide on a course of action, but agree that it might be best not to remain in Caldisar for the time being. A camp is established in the woods to the east.

For a few days, the group drifts north and east, avoiding the main road. A course of action is not decided upon at once.

On the third day after the events at Caldisor, two things happen.

While you are preparing dinner--a boar that Adrian shot--a raven flutters down from above and lands in the middle of your camp. Before you can react, it drops something, caws loudly, and flies off.

The item it drops is a message.

"Lieutenant. Olivia told me of what you'd done. I would offer you sanctuary among my people, but I know that you have your own mission, and must return home to your own. But from what Treyvex had told me about the cult of this "Shagoth", and the power of those crystals and the stone tablet, whoever is behind this must be stopped.

I can get you back into the city, if you wish. I cannot say more in this message, lest it be intercepted, but if you accept my offer, head to the riverbank east of the town. Seek out an old shipwreck on the shore about four hours' walk east of the city gates. Remember the words I told you before.

AK."

That night, Torrin experiences a vision. The details of that will be covered in a PM.

//This happens before LB's post:

Torrin stared at Oki incrediously. "You cannot be serious, Oki. Take over Camar? With what army? Granted your friends are more than capable soldiers, but even they could not stand against the Duke's full army, nor that of the temple as well as the others that would resist. If you're done with this foolishness, I say we turn in for the night and decide what to do on the morrow."

//Torrin has his dream:

Torrin awoke with a start, sweating slightly. He stared around wildly for a few moments before calming down. He leaned forward on his bedroll and placed his head in his hands, elbows resting on his kness. He stayed bent over for a few minutes before rubbing his eyes and saying, "We must return to Camar with all haste and see Aldaon Jeriff; your future and that of my beloveded land hang in the balance."

///The Night before in reply to Torrin

Oki replied to Torrin, "As you may have guessed by now, I have an odd sense of humor at times. It was my odd way of saying, 'I'm tired of all the talk about the Rebels are right, the Duke is wrong, we should help stop the Duke somehow.' What I truly feel about the politics of your world is immaterial, I really don't want to get involved; because, it's just too complicated of a mess you have in your world. Our world is probably much much worse. We don't try to create the world in our image; we simply try to eek out an existance and let the bigwigs deal with the big policies that need to be made because they have years and years of expereince at this. The world isn't made in an instant. It takes thousands... millions of decisions with lots and lots of people involved with carrying them out. I simply want to patch things up with the Duke and find our method of getting home. I'm sorry if I was a bit flip with my earlier statement."

The LT had been sleeping, but only lightly, as a man in hostile territory tends to. Woken by Torrin's pleas, he looks into the cleric's face and tries to understand what he's seeing there.

"What is it? What's wrong?"

A brief, empathic moment makes him add:

"What did you see?"

Oki wakes with a startled look as Torrin alerts them. She listens intently to what he has to say and agrees with him.

Torrin stared at the ground for a few moments before softly speaking, "I...I've had a vision. There is someone in Camar who will assist us, but we must be careful. While I wish to see the Duke and His Holiness upon arrival, I fell now is not the time. I would advise finding new clothes, if only so that we may enter the city safely without molestation. May the Father help us all..."

Phil groggily shook his head hearing the commotion his companions made that morning.

He could not say he was unhappy to knock the grouchy man with the big sword down a notch, but the thought brought a smile to him despite being rudely awaken.

Knowing his friends would figure everything out he moved somewhat out of the way and applied some of Torrin salve. It really stank. But then, he would doubt anyone would notice as pungent as they all had become from battling Trolls and such. He packed that jar away and looked abut for a bit of breakfast.

Joe nods at the priest. "I guess... I guess that's made up my mind."

Looking around at the members of the squad who'd woken, Joe seems to come to a decision, and walks around the camp, raising his voice and nudging those still sleeping with his boot. "Come on! Get up. You can sleep when you're dead. We're heading out in half an hour. Grab a bite of some of that leftover meat and walk the ache outta your legs. Aguirre -" and here, Joe roots around amongst his pack until he finds the strange message dropped into their camp, reading it by the light of the embers of the campfire - "I need you to find me Camar, and then I need you to find me a river."

He taps the parchment, staring at it, lost in his own thoughts for a moment. "No Justice without Freedom..." he says to the air. And then, he puts it away again.

Aguirre was disturbed; the whole situation was crazy, even getting out of hand, when he finally got some sleep, heard the Lieutenant’s voices calling them all. Didn’t take time to Aguirre to wake up and form a line in front of the Lieutenant, he was used to few hours of sleep, all scouts gets use to it, it comes with the job. He heard loud and clear Joe’s instructions.

Sir, yes Sir. I’ll be back soon, just few steps ahead. Aguirre leaves the company to start his search, not that he was going to find Camar for once, but he was trying to figure it out where they were and which direction to take, and above all, try as possible to avoid danger for the company. With determination Aguirre sink into shadows and vanished from normal eyes.

Vulcanos Mencius:

Vulcanos has been silent amidst the conversations between the squad and Torrin, but now he speaks.

"I think we ought to see this," here he smiles slighty, "AK, and then use his offer to get us into Camar. It seems we may have...allies of a sort, and they may be able to help us resolve the current mess we are in without us all getting killed or worse, destroying my land."

"Oh, and Torrin, perhaps you can tell us more about your vision. It would seem we are risking our lives by entering Camar, and I for one would appreciate a bit more information."

Oki had heard various ads on TV, "Welcome to Hell... on Earth... blah blah blah", she'd heard various guides and sergeants and others use the phrase "Welcome to Hell" when descibing bad situations... She was IN hell, and this was a lot worse than all those combined. None of those people knew crap about what they were talking about. Here, monsters were trying to EAT you and devour your soul and much much worse. She didn't even want to contemplate what that was. She had a new found fear and respect for the word Hell.

Torrin watched the flying rodent dissapear into the darkness of the cave with a hard look in his eyes. This is getting to be too much, he thought, first I loose a good friend, then I learn the man I trusted the most has not only abandoned the Light, he is trying to actively destroy it. I don't know how much more of this I can take... He looked down at the ground for a few moments before straightening up and turning around. "I suggest we meet this Balor soon before other dezins of this plane decide to try to make us into lunch."

Vulcanos was not pleased at their predicament. It did, however, offer the opportunity to see another plane up close, something which would only have value if they survived. And the odds on that were not very good....

He turned to the others. "We need to find a way out of here. The lesser demons we have encountered are unlikely to be able to help us. We must find a demon of some power, but there is danger there too, as such a creature might be as inclined to destroy us as to help us. And any help will likely come at a price..."

"A price."

The very essence of this place was... appalling to his senses. The smell of blood in the air was nauseating, the light was both too bright and too dark at the same time, and his sweat felt clammy against his skin. But more than that...

He remembered having that gut-twisting feeling, that instinct when facing Jeriff... or Lord Kalibos, he supposed. Something inside him had known the man was false and wrong and dangerous, like he had been a snake, rearing to strike - and there had been a smell, or a hint, about him, like the smell of a long-dead body you can't see, but know is there. Joe couldn't understand why he'd not felt it before. And his words, denouncing Torrin's faith - his own faith. That had made him feel so angry, for some reason.

Here, though, that instinct, that revolting feeling would not go away. It was everywhere - on the wind, in the distance, in the stones right below their feet. It was hard to breathe here, hard to walk straight. The air was hazy and thick. He had the feeling that this place resented him even setting foot on it, and the only release there was, the only respite, was in slashing up or gunning down the creatures who lived here. That... and when one of the squad had been in danger. It had seemed natural to place a hand on Torrin's brow and simply get him to rise, and for a moment, there had been a feeling of... reassurance. We are not yet done. The old priest is wrong. About so many things.

Now, the idea of striking a deal with something that lived here was toxic. But they had no choice, if they were going to get back to Camar and sort things out... or if they were going to get home at all. I cannot show weakness, the Lieutenant thought, but I cannot lead like this.

Ashen-faced, sweating and with a permanent grimace of revulsion etched on his face, Joe speaks three words he never thought he'd hear himself say.

"Sergeant. Take command."

Sir?

"Sir? What do you mean take command?" asked Nantle. It was something he wasn't expecting to hear. Something he REALLY wasn't expecting to hear after that mess he made back with freeing the rebel. Hell, he wasn't sure anymore if he even should be sergeant of the unit anymore. He had put the unit in danger, the mission in danger. And now the LT wanted to give him command?

Adrian looks around, confused, the place is not what he is used to, well, nothing had being since they left their own world. He knees to see if there is a way to find track, but the floor is solid and hostile even to his eyes, not a place to follow tracks. He now understand that they are on their own, in a ground where his skills might help, but he won’t be as efficient scout, where to look, more over, what to look.

Adrian was trying to figure it out the rocks around when he heard Joe’s words, instructing the Sergeant to take command of the unit. A strange direction, what was on the Lieutenant’s mind to make him do that? What plans did he have? Adrian just knows that he must get ready, feeling it was almost time to start moving again.
