Adrian listens to the Lieutenant with interest and pride. Seems they did it on this last stand, though there was more to come. It didn’t matter, he was a soldier and would not despair, if dying in battle is his destiny then welcome; on the other hand, if he was to survive, well… anyway, who would believe him? Adrian screams that familiar sound. Hoo-ah!

"Hoo ha!" Phil chimed in. It was more from an ingrained habit than from conscious thought, but regardless it sent a wave of adrenaline surging through his body. It was about the only energy Phil had left. Home seemed like a distant memory and as usual following orders would keep his sanity.

"I'm proud of you all." A grin crosses his soot-streaked face. "Damn proud. Soldiers of the US 3rd Infantry, men of Camar, and woman from CNN - today you've shown that there is nothing - not even in the darkest pits of the most horrible places a man can go - nothing that can stand against determined, resolute men fighting for an honest cause. You've stared into the darkness without flinching, and you're walking through, heads high." "Now I'm gonna have to ask you to walk a little further." The Lieutenant walked up and down the ragged line the party formed before him. "One big bastard's in the bag. Now we're after number two, Zurgon - if he's even still alive. If he is, his forces'll be on alert, but they'll be reeling from Hezarin's assault and now, now we have the weapons and the equipment on our side. The hard part's over!" "So that's it, one last push, gentlemen! One last charge into the thick of this hell and we can get the hell out! We've taken the worst this place can throw at us and we're still walking! We're still talking! Rock of the Marne, gentlemen! That's who we are!" And with that defiant cry, Lieutenant Abnett raises his fist aloft and yells out that time-honoured salute, touchstone and battlecry of the US Army soldier: "Hoo-ah!" |
| Oki hated to interrupt such a rousing speech; but, it was a bit of a professional insult to be called a CNN reporter. The Lieutenant never seemed to get most names right at first acquaintances; but, she felt he'd known her long enough and had heard her make enough reports that she felt a little hurt on a personal level since they'd been travelling together for so long. She simply looked down and remained quiet.

ooc: Never mistake a Fox reporter for someone from CNN! IC: Woo-ah, eh? Vulcanos smiled a bit, but without condenscion. After all, for mortals to attack a demon, more motivation and courage than present in most men - or women - was required. "Woo-ah! I do not know what this battle cry means, my friends, but I am with you. If we win, we live, and if we fail - then death or a worse fate awaits us. With your courage and strength of arms, I fully expect we are going to - how do you say - kick some demon ass!"

Oki began to think back as they walked to the Rebel encampment and she began to tear up, "I just realized," she said to the others, including the rebels, "I'm partially to blame for all these deaths... all these demons... and other problems unleashed upon Camar... I convinced the Fire Lord, Lord Hezarin to attack the Ice Lord, Lord Zurgon in our travels to the hellish abyss. Lord Hezarin then demanded the ice essence of Lord Zurgon we had been given from him as a sign of faith and sent away on a task as a diversion while he unleashed demons upon Camar through the portal that he was now able to open with the ice essence and other items. It was my insistance that Lord Hezarin attack Lord Zurgon with us as his allies that indirectly led to demons here in Camar here now." ooc: she rolled a 34 persuade roll... I saved the screen shot :/

Oki missed Ade more and more. She hoped she would see him again one day. She enjoyed his stories a lot of his world. They began to intrigue her. Especially now that her skin had tiny layer of scales to it, barely discernible. She began to wonder if she would return to normal if she ever returned home... would her baby be fully human after this many months of exposure to these developments? What would she even do for a father? She looked up to the stars and wondered why he had to leave so soon when she was just getting to know him and she was looking for the right time to tell him about her.

Torrin stopped, looked down at the ground for a moment, then turned to Oki. "Oki, don't blame yourself for the actions of the Balor lords; they would have attacked my plane at the first opportunity whether or not you 'convinced' them to. At the worst, you only have him an opportunity. It was he who seized it and unleashed this destruction. I dare say he would have done so anyways, but it would have been his suggestion for us to attack his brother and not yours. Do not negotiate with a creature from the abyss, they only care for themselves and will attempt to twist any deal you make to benefit them and not you. Come, we must rest before we can set the land aright."

The journey through the forest to the refugee camp takes several hours. The tension in the scouts is contagious, and while you do not see any more undead, you feel an omnipresent sense of danger, as if a foe waits in every shadow. Mikhela diverts most of your questions with a harsh enjoinder for quiet, but over the course of the journey, her curt replies help fill in the details of what happened in your absence. The rebels were nearly through the mountain passes into what had once been the northern marches of the Empire of Drusia when initial word reached them of the cataclysm in Camar. From the dates, your best guess is that it happened just a few days after you were cast into the Abyss by Aladon Jariff. The initial reports had little information and were very confused, but it was enough for Amar Kelantis to turn around his forces and head north for Camar at all speed. Not everyone agreed; you get the impression that Mikhela was one of the dissenters. Her voice is still thick with scorn when she talks of Camar, but you can sense the seriousness of what she relates in her reserved tone. It began in the deep of night. There was a tremor in the earth, accompanied by a flare in the night sky, an unholy radiance that spread over the city like a curtain of black and red flames. The residents of the city emerged from their homes to stare into the sky, alarmed and uncertain. The demons began to appear shortly thereafter. There weren't many, not at first. Maybe a dozen in the first surge. But their unnatural hides turned the blades and arrows of the City Watch, and the bloody carnage they wrought set the population into a panic. Mikhela's long silence indicates that there is more to the story, much more. But she does not speak more of that night. She relates only that many, many people died that night. There was some sort of explosion in the Duke's citadel; the entire front of the palace collapsed, and no elite guards or veteran legionaries emerged to help the city. Many people ran to the Temple of the Shining Father, seeking aid, but when the temple doors swung open, it was only to discharge a horde of undead upon the terrified citizens. Some of the undead wore the raiment of priests of the Father, fresh bloodstains still covering their once-pristine robes, their faces twisted into monstrous, feral visages. It is hard to believe that only little more than a week passed since you were thrust into the Abyss. In that time, Camar has experienced an utter disaster. The disturbances seem focused on Camar, and while undead have radiated out from the city, there have been no incursions of demons from within. The undead are bad enough; Mikhela reports that they resist spell, blade, and holy invocations alike, and are almost impossible to defeat without powerful magic. People have been fleeing in all directions, taking any conveyance they can, relying on their feet when they must, trying only to get as far away from Camar as they can. Amar Kelantis has rallied some of the forces, gathering a mixed group of rebels, soldiers, refugees, and survivors in a defensible camp a few days from the city. Messengers have been sent to the provinces, and to the neighboring kingdoms, seeking aid. Meanwhile, scouts report that a violent, black storm has settled over Camar, covering the city in perpetual darkness. By the time that you emerge from the forest and see the faint lights of the encampment ahead, a grim feeling of foreboding has settled over you. You have escaped from the Abyss, but you cannot help but feel that your situation has not much improved.

ooc In case it's not clear from the above description, your dealings with Hezarin and the invasion of Camar are not directly related; the disaster was wrought before you even encountered the balors.

ooc thanks LB Oki filmed the account told by Mikhela and was notably relieved at the same time. She smiled awkwardly and nodded to Torrin who had tried to convince her it was not her fault. By this point, Oki had also filmed some of the devastation of the area and the refugees left behind.

Phil was beginning to regain some of his good natured pep. He could feel the dread of the abyss lifting but he could also feel the a similar presence in this place that felt familiarly out of place. "Something just ain't right. Don't get me wrong I am glad to get out of that place but seems like some of that place got here before us" He looked at Oki. She was the only woman he had decided would not kill him, though he still checked his pockets when she started to sing. "I don't think you did anything to start this Oki" It was odd that Phil felt so talkative. Something had changed him in the abyss, not that he was any smarter...

Oki smiled and nodded in agreement with Phil, "I think you're right Phil and Torrin. There seems to be enough evidence mounting to suggest that this was all the work of Aladon Jariff and began shortly after he teleported us out of Camar to the Hellish Abyss. He and he alone is responsible for all this now. Any accomplices or resistance he had, were likely swept aside..." Oki looked to the others.

| Vulcanos face starts glowing red as Mikhela slowly relates the story, and you could almost swear you could feel heat radiating from him. "I do not know if my magics are powerful enough, but this I promise, I'll do whatever I can to destroy these undead and those who sent them." He gives Torrin a bleak look. "If you seek to bring rightful punishment to Aladon Jariff, Torrin, then I am with you."

Torrin looked at the floor and frowned. "Of that, I am certain, Vulcanos. High Priest no more, he shall feel the righteous wrath of the Shinning Father and we shall be the ones that deliver it!"

I am moving back to my house next Tuesday, after almost 18 months of construction. This is good news, but there is a small chance I'll be unable to play either this coming or next Monday night. I am hoping not to disconnect and move my computers until after our game Monday, and hope to be up again in time for next week, but just wanted to warn you in case something doesn't work out as I hope.

Adrian listens with attention the tale, again he thinks in a bad movie of Ed Wood, but everything here looks like. However, this is not a movie, at least not to his knowledge, it is as real as it can get, people die, they could die. Now, if all that happened was not enough, there are undead or what ever those things are. It doesn’t matter, Adrian is unsure at what point he begun to get used to this bizarre reality, these strange creatures and even human beings. He just shrugs and tells to Torrin and to Vulcano. He they walk, they can fall.

Nantle had a sudden thought... how good a High Priest would Torrin be? That temple might actually be able to their act together if he was in charge. But then how does one become a High Priest. They probably had some wierd freaky rituals.
