+1000xp to Oki and Phil for posting. I'm not carrying over last week's posts, because I did give out XP last week to those who attended.

Hey all. I need to survey you on whether you will be continuing with our next campaign. The campaign is X-COM, created by Mulu, using the excellent d20 Modern system (really, a full conversion of NWN, even more so than KotNR or Firefly). I have been playing in this campaign for a number of months now on Sunday mornings, and it is truly a unique gaming experience. Basically it's set in the modern day, with the characters as members of a top secret, elite team tasked with defending Earth from an alien menace. Please let me know, either in a post or PM, whether you will be able to continue. Everyone in the Monday Night Crew has a seat saved for them, but I know some people in our group have had RL issues for some time and I'll understand if any of you need to bow out for any reason. Otherwise, we're good for another long campaign--I anticipate X-COM being good for at least 20 sessions. X-COM is based on an excellent computer game from 1993 called X-COM: UFO Defense. The original game was a hybrid global strategy/base building game melded with a turn-based tactical game. It was addictive as hell and if any of you have never played it, I recommend tracking down a copy, it's still a lot of fun even today. Check out X-COM at Wikipedia for more information, or this page: http://www.ufopaedia.org/ Once we get closer to the end of GGS I'll start a new thread with character planning info and other details. Beyond the upcoming campaign, I have no idea. NWN2 didn't really work out as I'd planned, and if nothing else I could always go back to my original Forgotten Realms/Western Heartland campaign, which only a few of you have played since the start (I think chiz is the only one who was there at the Moonshaes, where it all began). I have sort of been losing interest in NWN, but I still enjoy our games, and for now, I have at least one more campaign in me for the Monday Night Crew.

Torrin stared at the wall of force blocking the entrance to the temple of Soleus. He seethed with rage as he thought about the betrayl of Jeriff and his fall from grace. Why he did not sense this coming, he did not know. The signs were surely there, but he either ignored them or failed to notice them. Be that as it may, he was going to punish Jeriff for his actions and cleanse his Lord's house of Jeriff's taint.

It seemed that their objective, and a possible end to the terror afflicting Camar, lay beyond the barrier to the temple. Vulcanos sensed the impatience of his comrades, but so far they had not discovered a way in. "The barrier may be the result of divine or infernal power rather than arcane power, but let me just try to detect the source and nature of any arcane energy sustaining the it." Vulcanos focused, and attempted to probe the weave around the barrier...

Oki felt awkward here in front of the temple to Soleus. She was the first of the group to suspect Aladon Jariff. She was practically chastized for her early suggestion of him as a suspect in death of Lady Tertullia. She had rattled off a list of suspects; but, he was near the top unfortunately and she couldn't explain why. Many a time too many religious figures in history both old and recent had felt the pull of temptation and gone bad in her world... Aladon Jariff would not be the first time... maybe he would just be more of an extreme casenow that they saw the full extent of his fall from grace as it were. Many a reporters' instincts were honed for such things to notice. Many a good storywriter sought such a twist to their tale. This was no story... this was reality, even if it was on someone else's world... a world that she cared a lot for and took great pains to help out. Religious leader or not... Fall from Grace or not... being the first to suspect or clueless... being a reporter or not... so many other factors to consider or not... one thing was clear: they now stood one step closer to cleaning up this mess, setting things right and then going home. Many people on both worlds depended on them to get this right and soon. Oki considered what advice she could offer next to get through this shimmering barrier. Oki spoke up, "In our world, we have security sysems that are complex enough to detect when they are being tampered with or even being scanned and alert the owner or their guards to be ready for an attack or infiltration. Some security systems include sewers too. We had a security specialist interviewed on one of our shows a couple of times."

Adrian eyes carefully the barrier; it is something he had never seeing, at least not in his almost lost life, perhaps in the movies, but this? He looked unsuccessful for a lock, anything, a way to get inside, but the barrier, though not solid as a wall, does not look easy to break through. The specialist turns to see to the LT, with an expression of frustration, he just shakes his head.

Fredrick couldn't help, but notice they were near their 'friend'. The guy who they recovered the gold coins for. Perhaps it was time to pull in that favor. At the moment they were out in the open and who knows what would get after them. OOC: I'm definitely interested in the new campaign. But I'm job searching so I'm pretty sure I'll end up missing at least a couple of sessions with the whole move and everything. That is when I finally do get that new job. I understand if that makes it not possible to join.

There's nothing wrong with talkytalky, of course, but dammit, what's the point of using a cool total-conversion with John Woo gunplay if all you want to do is have a campaign full of mental deduction and philosophical conundrums? |
| One thing you will not have to worry about with X-COM is a lack of action, SA, it's pratically brimming with action.

+1500xp for full-party IC posting this week. Regarding X-COM, another cool feature of the campaign is that it is relatively easy to bring people in or out. While I cannot guarantee that slots will always be open, especially if I add some new players to our roster, that is an option if someone has to hold off on joining the campaign, or has to leave mid-way through (as in Boomer's case, with uncertain RL issues lurking in the wings). All I ask is that folks keep me appraised of situations that might involve them leaving the campaign for any length of time (i.e. more than a session or two). And yeah, there's no shortage of action in X-COM, but another nice feature is that you guys will get to be directly involved in strategic decisions, such as the research agenda of the agency, manufacturing, base construction, target selection, and so on. You'll know more when I post the character creation guidelines, but basically what I have in mind is elites, not just grunts. The X-COM recruits are supposed to be the best of the best, and reflective of all nationalities and backgrounds, able to conduct advanced science one minute and whip out a blaster in the next. Everyone will need some sort of combat ability, but beyond that surgeons, scientists, diplomats, investigators, special forces, etc... all sorts of uber heroes are welcome. So start thinking of what characters you'd like to play in such a circumstance, and I'll start up the new thread in the next week or two (I'd like us to get closer to the end of GGS before we get too far ahead of ourselves!).

Torrin stood outside of the gates, fists clenched in slightly concealed rage. He visibly forced himself to relax before turning to the others. "Long have we been together and hard has the road been, but I would not wish to have travelled it with any other. This was never meant to be your battle and I still feel the Duke was wrong to bring you here, but in a way I am glad that he did. I promise you this, though, that after Jerrif has been defeated, I will do everything in my power to return you to your world if that is your wish, though I ask that you remain here and help us rebuild. Camar will come out of darkness and will need heros to show the people the way back to the light."

I am "stuck" in Puerto Rico tonight, and have the non-NWN laptop. I am going to miss tonight's game - despite the beautiful beaches - unwillingly and unfortunately. Good luck, guys, and sorry about that. If for some reason this isn't the last session, see you next week.

Adrian simply sited, unsure about what to do next, his skills were at times not enough to help the platoon, but that was not his main concern, no, it was just part of it. He started to wonder if by any chance they make a came back to their own world, to earth, what would Adrian had become, would he fit in such place? His skills were beyond any other human he met, well, at least in the USA that at first might sound nice, but was it really? Had he become a freak? ((Do not think that you will get rid of my SD so easy LB, I’m for the new campaign))

Oki admitted to Torrin and the others, "With every passing day my unborn child and I spend in this universe, we become more an more draconic. Upon our return to our world that increases the likelihood that we'll be whisked off to some secret government science facility to be studied and possibly dissected to see what makes us the way we are. Our only hope is some glimmer of compassion from somewhere in command to let my baby and I live and whether the squad and I tell our tale or not is another story."
