Urk,
Just encountered something "strange" -- I'd updated Axil's character record sheet to indicate that he is level 3; however, when I went to add him to the game, he was not listed as "eligible" (due to this being a level 1 adventure). So, I did the natural thing and set Axil's level back to 1 on the record sheet and he was allowed to join. :
Not really sure what possible use setting levels on the campaigns is if the character's level doesn't have to match the record sheet level.
