Let's all remember to keep it friendly and easy in these inter-session posts. I have the feeling that some of our other players are opting not to engage in the "strategic game" because of the ... let's say intensity of some of these posts. Everyone should feel welcome to post as much as they like, just remember that the course of the campaign will come from what happens in the game, and the decisions on how to run the organization are just extra. There are only a few techs that are actually "required" to finish the campaign and you will get to them, never fear. on Jun 14, 2008, 9:43 AM, Smart Alec wrote:So what I'm seeing is: Research - Snakeman Autopsy (10) Alien Navigation (10) and when that's finished, Snakeman Interrogation (10) Manufacturing: Workshop 3 (10) Personal Armour (10) And next week we'll likely be trying to build a medlab at least. Good to go? |
| Sounds good. Since a suit doesn't take a full workshop to build, I'll also let you finish the second Motion Sensor in the same time allotment (it was literally only one "unit" short from last week).

"Jackpot!" Buzz looked around hoping his enthusiasm was not overheard and he quickly logged out of the computer keeping mental notes. Thankfully nobody seemed to be around. He dare not keep any digital records at this point. The knowledge that he obtained was not done so easily. He was somewhat self-congratulatory, as his smug smirk would show anyone whom had been around him for the least bit of time. Now he pondered how he should share this information, certainly he trusted team Alpha, without the cat getting out of the bag to soon. "Oh Buzz, you got yourself into a mess now," He muttered. He saw a deck of cards sitting on the table and had and idea. He pulled out his X-phone and began to press the buttons: To:Team Alpha From:Buzz Subject:You might miss something! Time to take a break. Poker and fun. As long as you don't mind losing all your credits! Meet at the table at 10pm. Team Alpha only, I don't want too many folks to lose all their money. The first Russian there sets the ante. May the best man win! He snickered at the last line. Jane and Cat were sure to be there! He pressed "send."

10 o'clock comes around. In what might be a surprise to some, Vasily marches past the barracks and through the East Wing door into the rec-room at almost precisely the stroke of the hour, moving up and taking a chair with nothing more than a nod to those already there. "Ten credit ante, go up ten credits every twenty minutes, yes?" OOC: I miss playing poker! Out of curiosity, did we get a prototype laser rifle? I remember us getting a prorotype laser pistol and motion sensor, but not a rifle. Does this mean that they didn't need to build one, as laser technology itself was perfected, and all they had to do was produce blueprints for a scaled-up version?

Ten past ten, timed precisely for when the deck had been shuffled, the dealer had the first card in their hand, and was just about to send it across the table, Catalina walked into the room, glided elegantly across the floor, and slid gracefully into a chair at the table. Catalina winked at Buzz, and palm upright she beckoned with her fingers to the dealer. "Deal me in."

| I didn't throw in a freebie laser rifle, as I did with some of the other new techs. Damned techs are getting lazy, running their computer simulations instead of getting down and dirty with the hardware, I guess. You'll need to manufacture the production models to get access to the blasty goodness.

| Pff, do it with dice, broadcasting on the DM so there's no cheating. 1d4 for the suite, D12 for the card, rolling a D2 on the roll of 12 for a King or queen. Roll again if the card is out there. Or easier still, DM has a deck and deals! Mind you, the scripting freak in me immediately started thinking of... no, no, must... finish... current... project.

Jim looked over his cards. "Back in my residency days, we used to play this when the ER was slow. Hope you guys know what you are doing, 'cause if not, I'll be walking out with your cash." Jim grinned as he upped the ante. This was more fun than getting shot at by aliens, and certainly more fun than arguing over when to build the new medical lab. He'd been working hard in the existing lab to build more of those med-kits - without better armor, they'd be sure to need all the kits he and Stan and the technicians could make, next time they ran into some snakemen. While he agreed that more manufacturing capacity was the right way to go now, he hadn't yet convinced the others that the next step was the new medical lab and improved armor for all of them. Maybe they'd listen better once he took all their money...

Playing cards certainl lightened the mood some. Hopefully, it might even lighten the others of a few bucks. So far, everyone seemed to be holding their own. Jane tossed in her matching bet and called. Vasily won that round. Next round Catalina, James and Vasily faced off at eighty over three jacks, a straight and two jacks, with James taking the pot. Buzz took the next round with Jane, Dr. Baron and Catalina each tossing in about 90... Buzz had a full house, fives over twos. Dr. Baron took the next two rounds for about 250 total. It went back and forth for quite awhile, everyone was fairly evenly matched for the first couple hours, breaking even more or less. There were periods of time where there was no cross-traffic from others and everyone was free to talk freely... as free as one could feel at X-COM. ooc: rofl: try not to read anything into the above gameplay... i was just making it up on the fly.

Okay, a few hands in, everything fairly even, so now it was time have some serious fun. Next hand up with a two pair, ten high. Looking at her cards she set a deliberate smile to her lips and looked up to face all of them across the table. Doc A looked pretty uneasy already, obviously not a good hand. Leave him a while. Vasily looked his same stoic self, determination creasing his brow. Doc B, Jane and Buzz all maintained the traditional poker face. Round the table the bets went a couple of times she pursed her lips a little and smiled at her cards, as she pushed her credits forward. Catalina cast a glance around the table. "You know what this table needs?" she asked, to the air. "Some pretzels and beer. That is how you Americans do it, right?" There was a few moments' pause before Jane folded and stood up, announcing that she would fetch snacks and be back for the next hand. Nice, so very, very nice. She glanced at Baron and sighed as she chipped in her bet. "Wonder if she'll drop in on Doc S. She does get on with him so well, and ever since that mess in the lab he's been looking like someone took a chainsaw to his favourite teddybear." The man flinched looked down at his cards and then frowned the tiniest amount. Gotcha! Around and around they went again. Baron folded but Buzz sat across from her looking quietly confident as he placed a bet. Time for something... less subtle, Catalina thought, as she kicked off her shoe, stretch out her leg, and run her toes carefully up and down Buzz's calf. "Oh my, she exclaimed!" she chuckled as the man twitched and dropped his cards, and Jane wandered back in bearing snacks and looking curious. Cat gave the other woman a grateful wink as she sat down, with Buzz still fumbling to gather up his now-visible royal flush.Ha, easy. Doc Allen was looking increasingly twitchy but Vas sat with the permanantly angry expression still in place. Damn, what to do there? What could you do against a man who would probably stoically ignore toes tickling his groin for the sake of the Mother Land?

Hey all. I'd meant to post this over the weekend, but I lent my flash drive to a coworker and didn't have the file on my home machine. Consider it as falling slightly earlier in the continuity (maybe the afternoon before your poker game). * * * * * The lights dim as the projector warms up, casting a crystal-clear image against the far wall. "As you can see, the alien navigational systems function with a speed and efficiency beyond any human-made computer," Doctor Owkelume says. His crisp Oxford accent gives the words shape in your minds, as he goes on to describe the details of the research findings on the alien machines.
"As you can see," he says, bringing up a new image of a schematic diagram, "Once we complete our research into the alien shipboard systems, we believe that we can construct a flying craft more advanced than anything else in Earth's arsenal. With work complete on the alien alloys and navigation systems, we need only complete our work on their power systems to proceed." "And their fuel source," a voice chimes in out of the darkness. You don't need to see Agent Drake's face to know that she has a sour look on her face. "You aren't going to get very far without power." "Of course," Doctor Owkelume concedes. "The fuel source is key, both to the ships, and to the alien weapons. That is the end of my prepared comments. I look forward to seeing the new priorities set by the Board." After the lights come back on and the scientist leaves, Director-Liaison Garret pulls the members of Alpha Team aside for a moment. "I just wanted to let you know, we have two interceptors stationed now at Dijon-Longvic Airbase in central France. They should give us at least partial coverage of European airspace. We've already broken ground on X-COM Base 2. Some of the techies are calling it the "Maginot Hole"; not sure we want to let that catch on, given the history." He looks at the wall, although the projected image has long since faded. "You've done well, all of you, under difficult circumstances. We're in a race, and we don't even know the course, or where the finish line..." He pauses and touches his ear; you can see the small bulb of a communications device. "I'll be right there. Excuse me," he says to you, and then departs, in something of a rush. * * * * * OOC Dr. Allen rolled a cumulative 24 this week on his Craft: Pharmaceutical check, resulting in a +1 to this week's medikit production (5 total).

Cat had drastically changed Buzz's luck in the game. He didn't know whether to keep his legs crossed, widen them and suggest playing for something other than credits... In any case he had lost all his credits by the end of the next 4 hands and became merely a spectator. Bad luck but good timing. It was about midnight and the minor sensory dampening program he had initiated should give them the privacy he needed and, he hoped would not be noticed for anything other than a glitch in the system but one never knows what the X-Com will think at anyone time. But he had already decide it was worth the risk. He watch one more hand and lowered his voice a bit,"Listen gang I found something you all ought to know about." He waited until he thought they all were listening. "Someone has been messin' with the X-Com network, accessing files and such...probably the same person that accessed the HWP AI and inserted the new subroutine and made it go all haywire." He looked around noticing they had stopped playing. "You gonna raise or call Vlas?" They took the hint and got back to the game. He continued as they played. "Whomever it is they are really good, they covered their tracks quite well. They accessed the HWP AI under the login of Dr. Sandish from the terminal in the Alien Containment. Could be him but I doubt it. Number one, the only ones with personal access to this lab are Dr. White, Dr. Wagner, and Base Commander Hallorand. Number two, Dr. Sandish would have to be smart enough to cover his trail but not smart enough to use someone else's terminal login." He looked around pleased that they had continued to play. He fiddled with his x-phone and continued, "One thing might have come to our advantage. Whomever has been messing with the network has been downloading files on the research going on here; Medical, ships, and alien stuff. But they are loading it to a personal data storage device. I don't know about you guys but they almost did an anal probe on me to make sure I did not have anything like that. Find someone with a device like that and it's a good chance that we find..." he left the thought hanging.

Just a quick note that there's no research/manufacturing e-mail this week. Because we stopped in the middle of a mission, only a few hours will pass between the last session and the next, instead of a week of game time. You can still consider and change priorities, but those decisions won't begin to take effect until after the next session. We'll assume that Dr. Baron stowed away in the cargo compartment, assuming that Boomer returns for next week. Current allocations are: Research: (10) Snakeman Autopsy; (10) open (Alien Navigation just completed) Manufacturing: (10) Workshop 3; (8 ) Personal Armor; (2) Motion Sensor (sensor and one suit just finished) Since we're essentially "frozen in the moment" in-game, you can RP out these discussions on the journey from HQX to Riverside if you wish. i'm confused by who is piloting and what the front seat is for i was always under the impression that Pilot Ken was in an Interceptor these last several missions or something. The reason is that Pilot Ken flew in our compartment in the first couple of missions before Dr. White did. Do you see the confusion? ie: is Jane piloting this time or just having a nice view of the control panel?

Jane starts to familiarize herself with the controls and scanners and sensors that she hasn't already on the flight over. Hopefully, by the time that they arrive at the site, she can bright up a topographical map with heat signatures and structures for the surrounding area, so that she can show the others what is in store for them when they arrive at the school. Jane shows them the results, "No sense being unprepared, right? Here's the school over here, the ship over here. Large heat signtures here would likely be large groups of students. That leaves the straglers and unknowns which we might not detect." OOC I figure that's vague enough for now. hehehe feel free not to reveal anything if you don't want to. we'll figure it out once they start shooting at us ooc i believe Jane has a computer use of 2, search of 3, spot of 4, pilot of 6, listen of 2, dunno what else is relevant... not the best of skills, i know

| OOC: It's a good question. On the outside, the door for the Skyranger is on the side of the craft - but on the inside, there's a hatch leading to the cockpit on the wall opposite the door (the Skyranger cockpit and the Skyranger area where we sit are seperate, I think), which gives the impression that the door is at the back and the chairs in the Skyranger are all facing to the side. That means that the 'front seat' might actually be facing the right side of the craft. and the door is in the wrong place; either that, or there's a small little crawlspace running all the way down the left side of the craft to the cockpit. It's a little turned-around.

They not able to get out information without it knowing. Catalina: Hence the stick. Catalina: When did all this begin Buzz? Doctor Allen: I guess they won't be logging in as Sandesh again. Catalina: Could you get a date? Buzz: That's how I got the login for Sandesh. James....I think they will be back as long as they think they are getting away with it Vasily: *narrows eyes* Maybe it someone who think leaving base will not be problem. Buzz: I got the dates of the data save downloads*smiles* Catalina: When were they? We might be able to eliminate some. Doctor Allen: Hmmm.....well, if no one else is in, I'll just take this... *starts moving pot in his direction* Vasily: Hey! Catalina: If they arrived after the date of the first download, then it's not them. Buzz: There appears at least three separate times; the first one about four weeks ago, and the latest five days ago, well 6 now Doctor Allen: What? You guys are folding, right? Vasily: I just waiting for my turn. Catalina: Not the Beta team then ... and keep your mitts off Doc! Doctor Allen: *takes hand off pot* Well then, Cat, you are up Jane: *quietly* so someone that can leave base easily.... that's not good, that could even be Garrett Buzz: *looks longingly at the large pile of credits* Catalina: *looks at cards* I'll see you, and raise you 5. Doctor Allen: *snorts* Catalina: *pushes in chips* Buzz: It was curious that no weapon data was taken... Vasily: *thinks* Either that or is someone who think can leave base with difficulty... Jane: *tosses 5 in and raises 10* Vasily: *looks up* Counselor Joan Beauvais: Ah, poker! Buzz: Well hello~! Doctor Allen: *clears throat* Catalina: Any way ... *looks around* Vasily: Yes. Poker. Counselor Joan Beauvais: Good to see you all getting along. Buzz: Getting along? This is war! Buzz: *laughs* Vasily: *grim nod* Counselor Joan Beauvais: I just got back in. Gah, I love my home country, but the French can make a simple agreement into the Napoleonic Code. Jane: Greetings, Doctor Beauvais Catalina: War with out ters, well no ones except Buzz's Counselor Joan Beauvais: It's good to be back. I hope I didn't miss too much? Catalina: Pff... French. Counselor Joan Beauvais: *smiles slightly* Vasily: Trouble with neighbours. Buzz: *deep sigh* Catalina: I'm sure the aesthetics of the base were the biggest issue, or the canteen menu. Engineer Grace Thelon Beluca: Well, I don't want to interrupt your game, but I just wanted to let you know that the first suit of Personal Armor has just been completed. Engineer Grace Thelon Beluca: It's in the secure lab. Vasily: *raises an eyebrow, curious* Catalina: *quirks a brow* Vasily: Interesting. Doctor Allen: Well, one of us should claim it. Jane: thanks Grace Counselor Joan Beauvais: Well. I saw Musa just got back as well; I promised him I'd bring him a bottle of good Bordeaux. Catalina: Ahh Musa, I need to ask him about something. Doctor Allen: Should we play a hand to see who gets it for the next mission? Vasily: *nods* Nice to have everyone home again. Vasily: Hah. Catalina: Who gets hit the most? *grins* Engineer Grace Thelon Beluca: Oh, that reminds me, Garret asked me to send you all a new credits accounting. I'll send the e-mail right now. Engineer Grace Thelon Beluca: Talk to you later, Alpha. Vasily: Is all good news for once. Doctor Allen: Thanks, Thel Vasily: Good bye. Catalina: I know. We'll line up and someone can throw tomatoes at us. One with the most stained shirt gets the armour. Counselor Joan Beauvais: Well, I hope that doctor Baron has been more... interactive... in my absence. I will talk to you later as well. Vasily: *nod nod* Catalina: Bye for now! Vasily: I volunteer for armour. Doctor Allen: Speaking of handing things out, let me get some of the new medkits. I want to make sure at least a couple of you have one, in case something happens to me. Vasily: Is as much test as it is protection. I willing to get shot. Catalina: You do seem to suffer the most. Lazy Modern: [Shout] *communicator beeps announce e-mail coming in... the promised credits* Catalina: *looks at xPhone* Oh goody. Buzz: Well well...not broke after all*smiles* Doctor Allen: Fine by me - though I'd hope eventually we can all have a laser weapon and some improved armor. Catalina: I think we all hope /that/. Vasily: *nod* Is hope too. We get new workshop soon. Vasily: Is all go. Doctor Allen: The aliens we run into seem to be getting tougher, and the info suggests there are yet more variants out there. Jane: [Tell] is it light armor? Vasily: More? Lazy Modern: [Tell] Yes. Equivalent to leather armor. Doctor Allen: Read the report on the alien interrogation, Vas Catalina: *nods sagely* A couple more of those snake thingymibobs at once and we might have been in trouble. Catalina: *looks around* Back to the issue we were discussing. Vasily: *looks at the table, before pushing a couple of chips half-heartedly into the middle of the table* Jane: I suppose I can pass on the armor for now, maybe later Catalina: *looks at her own hand, matches Vas's chips and ups it by 5. Doctor Allen: *ups ante by 10* Catalina: Stay back and let Vas head in with the prod once he has it. Vasily: It seem like we live hand to mouth right now. In few weeks we all be wearing top of range style. Buzz: I don’t care who gets the armor as long as I get to stand behind him...or her*smiles* Doctor Allen: *nods* Sounds good to me. Catalina: We can /all/ hide behind Vas. Now, do we do a search? Vasily: Assuming base is still here in few weeks. Jane: *calls the bet* Doctor Allen: We'll do what we can. Vasily: I not want to be party pooper but maybe telling security not bad idea. Catalina: Maybe, but we know how subtle the FBI bint can be. Vasily: Ech. Buzz: I think we need outside help with this but the question is ...who do we trust to tell? Vasily: Garrett. *shrug* Anyone who arrive after first login. Catalina: If what you think is correct, and the person needs to get off base, then it could be any of them. ..... Hmmmm. Vasily: I not know. Catalina: Was Musa away for the last download? Vasily: I think so. Vasily: Also was Counselor Joan. Catalina: How about .... yes. Jane: for some reason, I can't imagine Drake as the saboteur Catalina: Though I still favour a search of likely candidates. Is there anyway we can narrow down the list of personnel on base when the downloads occurred? Catalina: Can't risk it, she was here. Doctor Allen: There are entry and exit records for everyone in the base data store. Jane: rule her out then, search her first Catalina: *looks at Buzz* Can you run a match? Vasily: All same. She all about US interests. I not know why she try to have scientists shot. Catalina: Except the US have the weapons, and that's the only thing they are not interested in. Catalina: That may not be a coincidence. Buzz: I can; but, if I do, that will sure let whomever it is know the hunt is on Vasily: *shrug* Buzz: *know the Vasily: Whatever you decide do, do fast, yes? Jane: rule her out, then when you have, tell her what's going on Catalina: *looks thoughtful* How many personnel lockers are there? Jane: if you can't rule her out, then find out why Vasily: *alarmed look* If we tell Drake we have leak, she try to shut us down or something and have US take it all anyway. Vasily: *looks up* Catalina: I'm with Vas, I don't trust the bitches motives innocent or not. Eleazar Perez: That guy Musa, he's okay. He had some pirated videos, they were... hey now! Vasily: Uh, hello. Eleazar Perez: If it isn't Team A, playin' some cards. Vasily: We all poker monsters. Jane: hey there! Ama Ngunyi: I believe they are occupied, Eleazar. Now, you promised to show me this "Steven Segal" movie? Buzz: *smiles* Ah someone else can be a victum other than me. Vasily: *blanches* Eleazar Perez: Oh yeah, he's the main man. There was this one movie, he took down a guy, lightning moves, almost as fast as me! *they head off* Catalina: *snorts* Vasily: *shakes head* Catalina: That buggers up the search of one locker room. Jane: *rolls eyes* Vasily: They use Segal movie for Mexican Special Forces training, I hear. Catalina: That explains a lot. Catalina: They too need stunt men for the really difficult parts. Vasily: You know, I have bad thought. Doctor Allen: *smiles* Vasily: What if it not just one? Vasily: If they have two... hacker and courier... Catalina: The thought had occurred to me. Jane: *raises 10* Vasily: Gah. *fold* Buzz: There's too many "ifs" that's why I brought it to you guys...I think Drake is out too but we need to get someone involved Catalina: In which case one of those who was off base could be involved. Vasily: *looks up at the Eff Bee Aye* FBI Agent Inise Drake: Well now. Look who isn't as thick as thieves. Catalina: *matches 10 and raises 5* FBI Agent Inise Drake: Gambling. Why am I not surprised. Jane: greetings Vasily: *like a schoolboy* Hello Agent Drake. Catalina: Nothing would ever surprise you Agent Drake, Special Agent Johnson: *face like a stone, says nothing* Buzz: *begins to hum beach Boys "Good Vibrations"* Vasily: You want something, Agent? FBI Agent Inise Drake: Oh, I can be surprised. I've learned to expect things I am not ... expecting. Catalina: Like the Spanish Inquisition? FBI Agent Inise Drake: No. Nothing from you. Although I have to say, Defense really liked that big new alien gun you brought back. FBI Agent Inise Drake: I think we gave you ... how much was it, Johnson? Vasily: Tchah. Yeah. Give with big kiss from us. Special Agent Johnson: *shrugs infinitesimally* Doctor Allen: Take good care of us and we might bring back some more goodies. Catalina: *snorts* FBI Agent Inise Drake: Indeed. Maybe next time we'll throw in a cookie. FBI Agent Inise Drake: Enjoy your... game. Buzz: *smirks* Catalina: An atmosphere dampening device, that one. Vasily: Strange to tell, I kind of like Agent Drake. Is like living in Cold War movie. Catalina: *chuckles* I can imagine the spikes in her shoes now. Catalina: So... decision time, do we or do we not search? Jane: ever feel like he's going to break out his forget ray, and put on some black sunglasses? Vasily: Who you talk about? I not remember any man. Vasily: Heh heh. Catalina: Your country exists purely on pop culture references, Jane. Buzz: Heh Doctor Baron: *yawns* Well, you lot may stay up all night, but I need some sleep. Jane: without them we wouldn't exist Catalina: You said it, not me. Vasily: Yah, bye Baron. Vasily: Keep forgetting his first name. Catalina: Come on, search or no search? Buzz: *sighs* Well, everyone sleep on it; but, we need to move fast Vasily: Anyway. Search needs be careful. If Drake get wind, as I say, it all fall down. Jane: I just call him Doc Catalina: I could maybe manage a few at a time. Doctor Allen: Hey, Jane, I'm the only real doc here! Vasily: I not sure what to look for. Doctor Allen: Baron's a shrink! Jane: heh Vasily: Do think tell Garrett, at least... if we screw up, they will ask, 'why you not tell someone like the boss?' Buzz: The real question is who do we trust Doctor Allen: I think we tell Hallorand. If he's in on it, we're screwed anyway. Vasily: Am hoping Garret tell Hallorand. Vasily: But yes, ok, Hallorand. Catalina: I suppose the only thing that can go truly wrong is the person gets away, but at least then we lose no more. Doctor Allen: Why don't we tell him directly? Like right now? Vasily: No. Thing that can go truly wrong is, person get away, security leak exposed, X-Com disbanded. Catalina: *winces* Doctor Allen: Hallorand won't want that to happen, and will know how to handle the information. Vasily: *nod* Ok. Where he? Jane: Hallorand is the right person to tell Catalina: *looks thoughtful* Doctor Allen: *shrugs* Not sure, but I bet we can find him. Buzz: Heh, well I'm not the best people person... but I’ll come along for the ride. Catalina: Me too. Vasily: Hey. Vasily: You see base chief anywhere? Base Guard: Hallorand? I supposed he'd be asleep. Base Guard: You got an emergency? Buzz: *yawns* A good place to be Doctor Allen: I'll go down to the med lab Vasily: Nyegh. I... guess not. Catalina: *waves hi to Musa* Base Guard: Yeah. This place is starting to feel like a 24-hour minimart, eh? Vasily: *looks for direction from the others - wake him up or?* Base Guard: They say more techies are comin' in. Jane: *waves hi to Musa* Base Guard: Pretty soon we'll all be sharing beds. Catalina: Can it wait? Master at Arms Musa Babatola: Greetings soldier, do you need some gear? Jane: Yes. Master at Arms Musa Babatola: Greetings, Miss Jane. Catalina: Oooo, will we? Doctor Allen: *waves to scientists and techs* Vasily: *shrugs at Cat* Vasily: Not like that! Catalina: Bagsie not Drake. Master at Arms Musa Babatola: Greetings soldier, do you need some gear? Catalina: Yes. Master at Arms Musa Babatola: Greetings soldier, do you need some gear? Buzz: Yes. Catalina: My dear, Musa. Would you have some ammunition for a 44 magnum? Catalina: *blows him a kiss* You're a treasure. Master at Arms Musa Babatola: Greetings soldier, do you need some gear? Vasily: Yes. Jane: *buys a very nice looking Qur'an* Doctor Allen: Sorry, deep in thought. Doctor Allen: What can I do for you? Doctor Allen: *smiles at the nurse* Jane: thanks, Dr. Sandesh will appreciate this Doctor Allen: No - where do you think he is? Doctor Allen: Not in his bunk? Doctor Allen: Hm. The base isn't that big, maybe I can try to find him. Master at Arms Musa Babatola: Greetings soldier, do you need some gear? Buzz: Yes. Doctor Allen: Where does he usually go when he's not sleeping or working? Vasily: Well, he not here. Catalina: *//blushes* Doctor Allen: Not too many quiet places in this base. I'll see if I can find him - any suggestions where to look? Buzz: //hehehe opps Catalina: Snug. *grins* Doctor Allen: Thanks then. And keep up the good work making those medikits. Vasily: *nods at Allen, looking around* Buzz: Well do we call it a night? Catalina: *low* You sure you can't run an elimination search for any reason? Doctor Allen: Vas - you seen Sandesh? Doctor Allen: His team can't find him anywhere. Vasily: Uh, not here. I just get here. Doctor Allen: He's not in his bunk. Vasily: *frowns* Vasily: He was not hurt, right? Doctor Allen: Oh, and by the way - here's something for you Vasily: *accepts it with a solemn nod* Buzz: *low* I can...but whomever it is, is good enough to detect it...like a big red flashing light...It would be something I would look for...if it were me Doctor Allen: Jane Scientist: *looks at her watch* Thank god, our shift's over. Doctor Allen: Got something for you too Catalina: *purses lips* Then if I search it'll have to be all of them. Vasily: News. Catalina: In truth, the culprit might choose to conceal it anywhere ... what? Vasily: Doctor Sandesh apparently not around anywhere. Catalina: *frowns* Where could he have gone? Vasily: Not in bunk or in lab or in canteen. *shrug* Where else scientist go? Catalina: We can make sure he hasn't left the base at least, surely? Doctor Allen: *looks into containment rooms to see if Sandesh there* Vasily: Think so. Catalina: *looks at elevator and hanger guards* Buzz: *looks to Vas* Hmmm that is surprising...but sure just ask one of those guys*nods* Lazy Modern: [Tell] not until they have been researched. (Edit: referring to the 3 plasma pistols Jane left behind to be credited to our account for next time... can't be kept until X-COM researched them is what he meant, I deleted a bit of the conversation) Vasily: I go check storage. Someone else ask guards and in hangar. Buzz, you check east wing? Buzz: Okay Vasily: Eh, you check storage. I check east wing. Catalina: Heya. *lantern smile* You wouldn't have seen Dr Sandesh anywhere would you? Vasily: *peers in, nodding at the comms guys, before closing the door* Doctor Allen: Buzz - you take one of these - insurance in case I go down. Buzz: Sandesh is gone*frowns8 Sure, I hope I don’t kill someone rather than help Catalina: *nods* He must hiding somewhere, I'll find him. *winks* Doctor Allen: Cat, before you go Catalina: *tilts head* Yes? Jane: [Tell] buzz do you need a mechanics kit? Doctor Allen: - take one of these for our next mission. Insurance, in case I'm not available to use it Buzz: [Tell] nope got one Catalina: Oh *frowns but accepts* How'd I sue it? Vasily: *looks at the base chief door* Master at Arms Musa Babatola: Greetings soldier, do you need some gear? Jane: Yes. Doctor Allen: It's simple. For any puncture or energy wound Vasily: Oop. Doctor Allen: ...place the kit on the wound, bottom down. Doctor Allen: Then see this switch here? Buzz: [Tell] got electric, mechanical and chemical Doctor Allen: It activates the diagnostics. Catalina: Apply to wound *nods* Okay, I can manage that. Vasily: Hello. Vasily: Yes. It is the Russian. Vasily: Hah. How you do? Doctor Allen: You won't be able to do as much with it as me, but then again, it's only for emergencies. Doctor Allen: if I'm - disabled. Vasily: Hah. I look for Sandesh. You know? Odd Egyptian scientist man. Catalina: *nods* Let's hope I don't need to use it, eh? Buzz: Vas back yet? Vasily: *nod* Ok. Doctor Allen: *smiles* I'm keeping my fingers crossed. Catalina: Just your fingers? *grins* Vasily: Uh, name is Vasily. And yes. Movie is awful. Catalina: Doc S hasn't come this way. Vasily: Ok. Thank you both. Catalina: Only Drake and the Man in Black. Jane: okay, thanks Doctor Allen: *looks puzzled, then shakes head* Vasily: Eh, I wish could, but... eh, ok. Vasily: Need to get used to giant machine gun, ha. Catalina: Oh! Buzz: [Tell] heh, no heal skill points so I can't use this heal kit right? Vasily: How is life in Beta- Vasily: *vituperative Russian curse* Jane: [Tell] you can, it's just not as effective as someone else Vasily: *checks body* Catalina: Just a thought. Agent Drake and the agent with her weren't taking any luggage were they? Vasily: *looks up* Please go to base corridor. Get Doctor Allen. He not dead. Vasily: Not yet. Buzz: I’m going to see what’s taking Vas so long Catalina: *nods* Thank you again. *big smile8 Alyssa Sanders: Are you the doctor? Doctor Allen: I am Alyssa Sanders: The doctor? I need the doctor! Buzz: No,*looks back* DOC! Doctor Allen: What is it? Alyssa Sanders: This way... the Egyptian, he's... hurt. Jane: he is *points to Doc A* Alyssa Sanders: There! Vasily: *growls at his own uselessness* Vasily: He got pulse, can you? Catalina: How'd he get there? Doctor Allen: *examines body* Vasily: I not know. We best get security. Alyssa Sanders: He was there when Vas and I came by. Vasily: *nod* Catalina: *nods and runs* Buzz: Did you see anyone else? Vasily: *shakes head* Alyssa Sanders: No, nobody. Doctor Allen: He's still alive *pulls out medikit* Weak pulse Doctor Allen: ....possible coma. Doctor Allen: *applies medikit* Catalina: Security! Vasily: *narrows eyes, looking... well, thunderous* Catalina: It's doctor Sandesh, he's been hurt. Quick. Jane: what can you do for him? Vasily: What been done to him? Catalina: Firing range! Buzz: *COM* Medics needed at the firing range....hurry, Dr. Sandesh is bad Doctor Allen: He needs some monitoring equipment, some drugs to maintain heartbeat Vasily: *winces* Not use com! Everyone hear that now. Vasily: Eh, never mind. Doctor Allen: stretcher would help Vasily: *nod* Well, I guess medics is on way now. Catalina: Security are on there way. Base Chief Mark Hallorand: What happened? Catalina: *their Buzz: Time may be an essence here best everyone hear and we get info from him Medical Officer Stanley White: Coming through! Catalina: Dr Sandesh, I'm not sure what. Doctor Allen: *checks for any other wounds, goes through pockets* Jane: they found him like this Medical Officer Stanley White: What do we got? Doctor Allen: low pulse, Stan Doctor Allen: unresponsive Medical Officer Stanley White: Injury? Medical Officer Stanley White: Trauma? Doctor Allen: No sign of trauma Medical Officer Stanley White: Nothing that I can see. Vasily: *looks at the various faces for a moment, before looking back down and the body* Medical Officer Stanley White: Had he been acting unusually? Doctor Allen: minor bump on head; possibly if he fell Jane: *checks for weapons discharge in area* Medical Officer Stanley White: Yes, I see it. Medical Officer Stanley White: Pupils static... Jane: *recent* Medical Officer Stanley White: [Tell] there is no evidence of weapons fire; no unusual smells or residues. Catalina: Not shot then? Medical Officer Stanley White: All right. He seems to be stable, but comatose. Jane: no recent weapons fire Medical Officer Stanley White: Takes out communicator* I need a stretcher in the weapons test range. Catalina: No trauma, Doc A said. Buzz: Might want to set a guard...someone wanted him dead it appears Doctor Allen: His staff mentioned he had some headaches Medical Officer Stanley White: Headaches? Anything else? Doctor Allen: couldn't sleep Catalina: Is he carrying any medication? Vasily: *frowns, thinking* Doctor Allen: No. In fact, nothing in his pockets. Medical Officer Stanley White: Hmm. Yes, a few of the scientists have complained of insomnia... I thought it was the long hours. Medical Officer Stanley White: Nothing that I'm aware of. Doctor Allen: Not even a communicator. Jane: what was HE doing in the weapons range? Catalina: *scans area looking at floor for main* Catalina: There's nothing to show anyone else was here. Base Chief Mark Hallorand: He wasn't a violent man. I don't think I've ever seen him even hold a weapon. Vasily: *frowns, thinking* Medical Officer Stanley White: *nods to the nurses* all right, let's get him to the med bay. Vasily: *... again* Lazy Modern: [Shout] *the nurses carefully take up the doctor, and take him off to the med bay* Catalina: *concerned frown* Vasily: You say no-one here besides him?? Catalina: Was he checking the dummies mechanics? Vasily: *er, one ? Lazy Modern: [Shout] ooc Consider Sandesh gone; I can't limbo him at the moment* Doctor Allen: Run some blood tests, check for traces, poison, drugs, etc. Base Chief Mark Hallorand: No, he had nothing to do with this work. Vasily: *looks around for a CCTV* Catalina: 'scuse me, big fella* Medical Officer Stanley White: Good idea, Vasily. This whole place is monitored, right? Catalina: *checks over the targets and dummies for recent meddling* Base Chief Mark Hallorand: *to the guard* Check the surveillance scans for this part of the base. Base Guard: Sir! Vasily: Hope so. And this is just down hall from Beta team barracks, so assuming stupid movie was not on, someone should have heard... Catalina: *shakes head and shrugs* Jane: there was nothing unusual added or missing in the weapons locker Base Chief Mark Hallorand: There's a standing rule against gunfire here after 9 pm Base Chief Mark Hallorand: Someone would have heard a shot... Vasily: *scratches head* Catalina: Nobody's touched them recently. Base Chief Mark Hallorand: We had to quiet it down, after the new barracks were put in. Vasily: I know this sound paranoid. Medical Officer Stanley White: I'd better get to the med bay. Vasily: But since you do that research on alien language... alien containment been upgraded any? Base Chief Mark Hallorand: No, but it's the most secure site on base. Catalina: *blinks and looks at Vas* Base Guard: Sir! Base Chief Mark Hallorand: what is it? Base Guard: Sir! Something's wrong with the security tapes! Base Chief Mark Hallorand: What? Catalina: Why am I not surprised? Vasily: *another violent Russian outburst* Base Guard: The comm tech... He said that someone had run a program... it interfered with the security recordings. Base Guard: He said it started in the lounge... about four hours ago. Buzz: *groans* Catalina: *jumps as Vas shouts in her ear* Base Guard: It spread, and messed up the whole grid! Jane: aren't there backups? Doctor Allen: Base security has been compromised. Base Guard: We lost the whole night for most of the base! Base Chief Mark Hallorand: I agree. Base Chief Mark Hallorand: I'll notify Director Garret. Buzz: Chief...we better talk Base Chief Mark Hallorand: I'm locking down the entire base. Base Chief Mark Hallorand: What? Vasily: So much for keeping leak quiet. *grinds teeth* Base Chief Mark Hallorand: Can it wait, Buzz? Buzz: No Sir I don’t think so Base Guard: *looks around like someone might jump out of the shadows at any minute* Alyssa Sanders: Damn, this is creepy. Buzz: Is there somewhere private the team and I can talk to you? Alyssa Sanders: *sidles closer to Vasily* Vasily: *apologetic shrug* Base Chief Mark Hallorand: Well, it looks like anywhere is private, until they get the feed fixed. Catalina: *eyes Alyssa and grins* Base Chief Mark Hallorand: Corporal, take Miss Sanders back to her quarters. Vasily: Firing range always crowded, huh. Base Chief Mark Hallorand: Remember, Miss Sanders, tell your teammates that we're in a lockdown. Alyssa Sanders: Yeah, sure. Alyssa Sanders: Sorry about our date, Vas. Vasily: *nods as she walks away, with a faint twitch* Catalina: *smothers a snort* Base Chief Mark Hallorand: Okay, what exactly is going on here? Vasily: *looks expectantly at Buzz* Jane: clear Buzz: Well I can explain the security breach in regard to the cameras and there’s more Base Chief Mark Hallorand: *looks like he's not looking forward to hearing the "more"* Buzz: I wanted to talk privately with the team about recent discoveries....there must have been a problem with the program I ran*looks worried* Catalina: *lounges against wall watching* Lazy Modern: [Tell] I saw. (Edit: referring to Jane closing all the doors in the area) Vasily: *blinks at Buzz* Lazy Modern: [Tell] Nobody can eavesdrop unless they are invisible. Base Chief Mark Hallorand: The program _you_ ran? Catalina: *face palms* Base Chief Mark Hallorand: So you disabled the security system? Vasily: Mother of god, give me strength... Buzz: *frowns* It really shouldn't take too long for you techs to find it...but the reason...the more part... Buzz: someone has been hacking into the system and stealing files...I have all but traced them down*explains details* Buzz: *into the Base Chief Mark Hallorand: *frown deepens as he listens* Vasily: I not understand. Why you have to disable security system to do this? You not mention this. Base Chief Mark Hallorand: Why didn't you tell anyone? Me... or Director Garret, or Doctor Wagner? Buzz: Well I just found it and want to talk with the team about it...we decided to tell you but...you were sleeping Base Chief Mark Hallorand: Well, I suppose it is water under the bridge now. Base Chief Mark Hallorand: But in the future, when something like this happens, Buzz. You can WAKE ME UP. Base Chief Mark Hallorand: I have to report to Director Garret. Don't ... ah, wander off, eh? Catalina: *sigh* Buzz: I think Sandesh was a target...you might want to assign him some prote3ction? Base Chief Mark Hallorand: I suspect he'll want to talk to you as well. Until then, I'd get some sack time, while you can. Base Chief Mark Hallorand: I've already stationed guards in the medical bay, and will double them. Catalina: Question is, was this a coincidence, or did someone else know they were disabled? Doctor Allen: Good. Base Chief Mark Hallorand: Ever since the HWP incident, I put a guard in every lab. Base Chief Mark Hallorand: I don't know, Miss De Farrago. But I had the same question. Base Chief Mark Hallorand: I'll let you know what we find. Base Chief Mark Hallorand: *heads off, muttering to himself* Buzz: Whomever it is, is good...it was a simple program but they would have had to access it this evening to manipulate it Catalina: *shakes head* If they did, then they know something is up. Vasily: ... wait, so it not you who turned off cameras? Buzz: unfortunately I might not have my usual access from now on*frowns* Vasily: *frowns, thinking* Catalina: *another deep sigh* Vasily: We... we missing something. Jane: sigh, I just hope he recovers; Dr. White has done some amazing stuff before in the medical area Catalina: Hold on/ Vasily: If just information thief, I not understand why they keep picking on Sandesh... Vasily: Eh? Buzz: The program I wrote was to make everything a bit fuzz so we could talk...not disable it...it would surprise me if it went rogue but I can tell without getting into the system Catalina: We were in the lounge Catalina: No one came past us. Vasily: Yah. Doctor Allen: True. Catalina: No one came past while we were in the hall either. Buzz: and it was only for the lounge area Vasily: Program started in lounge, but someone else access it from other computer and make it affect whole base. I understand this right? Catalina: Anyone who was in contact with Dr S must still be down here. Jane: um, yes, people came past us, you forget the betas? Buzz: could be... could be my program went rogue Catalina: No, but they came in not out. Vasily: *slow nod* Catalina: We should do a search now. Vasily: So... that just narrow down to beta team, all tech workers and whoever was sleeping at time...? Buzz: *sigh* I am so tired I can think straight* Vasily: Eh, ok, but search not easy if base lockdown. Doctor Allen: Sandesh could have come here earlier. All the nurses said was, he had a headache earlier. Vasily: *peers through the wire fence* Catalina: There, you sod. Catalina: Okay, clear. Buzz: *looks crestfallen* Drake will have my ass for this I bet Base Guard: Looks up* Base Guard: Can I help you? Heard there was some sort of commotion. Catalina: Heya, has anyone been in or out of here in the last couple of hours? Base Guard: No. No unauthorized personnel are allowed in the radar room. In fact, you probably shouldn't be in here, miss. Catalina: *apologetic smile* Consider me gone. Lazy Modern: [Tell] the room is completely empty. Nobody appears to have used it recently. Catalina: Anybody down there? Doctor Allen: Haven't checked yet. Vasily: Is all quiet, I not able get it. Doctor Allen: After you, Cat. Jane: *w* can you relock that door Catalina: *examines gate* Engineer: What the hell is going on? Engineer: Do they expect us to work all night? Vasily: I not know. Some drill. Engineer: Gah! My bed is twenty feet away; can I at least get to it? Vasily: Some people not showing up on roster, you know anyone missing or who not should be here? Catalina: No sign of anyone having gone past recently, but we could cut the wires. Geffam D'agosto: This is a secure area. No one comes in here who is not authorized, soldier. Vasily: Ah. Ok. Thank you for time. Geffam D'agosto: *rubs his head, and nods* Vasily: Tired? Vasily: Heh, we all. Engineer: All this work. Vasily: It all over soon! Catalina: Well? Cut it or leave it? Buzz: *searches his gear, bed etc. hoping not to find any data storage devices* Vasily: just say. Anyone get past it without cutting it? Eleazar Perez: Thought I heard some Alphas yelling out here. Eleazar Perez: What's going on? Catalina: Not likely, and it's intact. Eleazar Perez: Alyssa said some egghead bought it? Doctor Allen: I wouldn't cut it, Cat. Vasily: Oh, he not dead. Not yet. Alyssa Sanders: Real sensitive, Perez. Eleazar Perez: You guys need some help? Catalina: Okay, that leaves a couple more. Jane: nope, we're fine Catalina: *looks at Vas and mutters* Ama Ngunyi: Doctor Sandesh is a great man. I hope that he recovers. Vasily: We not sure. You seen anyone odd in this wing today? Eleazar Perez: Heh, well, you get in a fix, you just let me know. Doctor Allen: *nods to Cat* Eleazar Perez: Odd? Hell man, this whole place is odd. Eleazar Perez: Freak show deluxe, man. Vasily: Ha. Uh, ok. Have nice night? Ama Ngunyi: I believe what my colleague is saying, is that we have seen nothing out of the ordinary. Vasily: *nod* Catalina: Foolish. Eleazar Perez: Sheesh. Catalina: *searches the VIP quarters* Vasily: I get it. Take care now. Jane: very well, thank you Doctor Allen: *watches hallway* Eleazar Perez: For you, angel, anything. *grins* Alyssa Sanders: Oh, please. Jane: *smiles* good night Catalina: Nothing Doctor Allen: Hmm Vasily: *looks at the women's restroom* Vasily: I not check this when I come through for obvious reason. Catalina: Anyone checked the showers? *stares at chief's door* Doctor Allen: Maybe Jane can check out the ladies room Catalina: *shrugs and risks it* Buzz: *sits in bed hands in head* Vasily: Hello. Vasily: Is all gone bad. Jane: *searches the women's bathroom for anything unusual* Catalina: *checks out chief's quarters* Vasily: *sighs, and nods* Ok. Doctor Allen: *keeps eye on hall while Cat looks through quarters* Vasily: AL-PHA TEEEEAM - we needed in brief room. Doctor Allen: Cat - close it up Doctor Allen: We are summoned Vasily: Buzz? Wake up! UN Envoy Michael Garret: What's the current heading and speed? Buzz: WHAT? *rolls out of bed* Vasily: Aliens not giving us moment to catch breath. UN Envoy Michael Garret: Grab a chair. Dr. Kimberly Wagner: Heading across the Pacific... looks like California. Southern California. UN Envoy Michael Garret: Time to intercept? Dr. Kimberly Wagner: Three minutes. Base Chief Mark Hallorand: Has NORAD been notified? Vasily: Welcome to X-Com California. Such a lovely place. UN Envoy Michael Garret: That was the first thing we did. UN Envoy Michael Garret: Six F-22s are on the way. But our interceptor is faster. Doctor Allen: 3 minutes? Shouldn't we head to the hanger? Dr. Kimberly Wagner: Interceptor 1 reports entering weapons range in two minutes. UN Envoy Michael Garret: It's still over the ocean. Buzz: [Tell] do the NPCs in this room look translucent to you too? Jane: you can check in any time you like, but you can't never leave UN Envoy Michael Garret: If the interceptor hits, there won't be anything left to find. UN Envoy Michael Garret: You're here in case... Vasily: *grunt, nod* Dr. Kimberly Wagner: *interrupts* Interceptor 1 is taking fire! Vasily: *nods at Cat* UN Envoy Michael Garret: Report? Dr. Kimberly Wagner: *stares at the info on the screen* Interceptor 1 has been destroyed. It didn't even get within missile range. Catalina: *looks at screen* Jane: [Tell] yes Catalina: *nods* Vasily: *shrug* Base Chief Mark Hallorand: If our bird didn't get close, with those avalanche missiles, the USAF won't have a chance. Vasily: *looks up* Vasily: What? UN Envoy Michael Garret: All right team, it looks like you're up. What's the latest on the UFO course, Kim? Catalina: *nods wide eyed8 Dr. Kimberly Wagner: It's heading will take it across the Techachipis, down... into the Inland Empire somewhere, looks like. Vasily: *clenches armrests, white-knuckled* Base Chief Mark Hallorand: At least it's not heading for LA. UN Envoy Michael Garret: all right. Wherever it lands, I want you there, Alpha. UN Envoy Michael Garret: Ken, warm up the Ranger. Doctor Allen: All right Pilot Ken Yushi: Right. Catalina: I need to change. Catalina: Let's look, let's look! [Lazybones] Lazy Modern: [Shout] Hey, do we have enough grenades? Vasily: Worrying comment. Catalina: Meh, I inflict it on players all the while. I think they get around 1 in 4 hack ones. [Lazybones] Lazy Modern: [Shout] Good session all, nice RP. Doctor Allen: I have ....er.... zero Vasily: A few flashbangs... Buzz: zero here too [Lazybones] Lazy Modern: [Shout] I tend to get more impatient as a player, have to work to let the flow of the game go that way if the players seem to be enjoying it. Catalina: Come on SA *jig jig* What's it do? Vasily: Knew I shoulda bought that bazooka. [Lazybones] Lazy Modern: [Shout] I was kidding; you don't want to throw grenades at a school! *rolls eyes* Vasily: Uh. Yes, I... knew you were kidding. Catalina: Ha! You don't know my kids! Vasily: *cough* Doctor Allen: we need to clear the line of sight one way or another [Lazybones] Lazy Modern: [Shout] I can see SA stepping out of the plane, gun on autofire... and then afterwards finding that the alien ship was a school project, full of kids... Catalina: Throw in sweets; they'll all scrabble on the floor. Vasily: Anyhow. Light armour, AC2; +4; 5 points of resistance on various energies [Lazybones] Lazy Modern: [Shout] Heh, next week should be interesting. Vasily: Acid, electrical, piercing and slashing. Buzz: great fun all the way around gang! [Lazybones] Lazy Modern: [Shout] The plasma guns are electrical, their grenades acid. Doctor Allen: thanks guys, see ya!
