IC: Vasily looks uncertain. "I not know... who we ask for something like that? I guess we go ask Hallorand or something, he tell us if X-Com have something like that lying around or if we can get engineer to build it quick or something." "No using email, we do this simple way," he declares sternly. "Anyway, I hoping that catching reciever will help us catch spy - might not be case, so you carry on trying to think of ways to catch spy." With that, he wanders off in search of someone to ask about clandestine monitoring devices. The odds on him being sidetracked and ending up at the shooting range again are up for debate; hopefully, the odds on him finding another nearly-dead man there are pretty low. *** OOC: With one vote for the Laser Cannon, how about... Research: Laser Cannon (10), HWP "Robot Tank" (5), Floater Autopsy (5) Bit of a gamble here, but a fair bit of work was done on the HWP, I understand, so I'm hoping that it won't take much to get it on the road, and if autopsies are pretty simple, maybe it's worth trying to fit both in one week. Manufacturing: Workshop 3 (10), Personal Armour (10) No surprises there. Let's get another one or two armour suits up and running. A note on extra workshops - as I feared way way back on page 14, it looks like base expansion may be limited after all. In terms of workshops, we might be facing a series of diminishing returns, because if it takes between 6-9 weeks to set up Workshop 4, that might simply be too long a wait for it to be worthwhile. On the upside, when Workshop 3 is up and running, it does mean that we'll have one workshop ready to build the last few base upgrades (Medlab, Laser Defences), one workshop to continue equipping the Team (armour, lasers) and one workshop to start churning out other stuff (the laser cannons for the Interceptors, spare HWPs, or more armour and lasers when there's no need for those). Hopefully, the waiting will finally pay off and we'll begin to hit our stride. Oh, and - seeyou Chiz! Take care.

I'll do my best to make it up to you and either take you to see Narnia or Shrek 4 when it comes out. No promises. I hear there's a new Harry Potter movie coming out November 19 called Hary Potter and the Deathly Hallows. I'm looking forward to that. I love you always, Sweetie. hugs and kisses, Aunt Donna |

Dear Aunt Donna, I missed you. When are you coming to visit? I want to show you my presents. Oh, great news! My team made county league finals last week! We may be going on to the state competion soon!!! It'd be so awesome if we placed there or even won!!! LOL Write back soon. XOXOXOXOXO Samantha

Jane concealed the email from the others; but, proudly showed off the photo of her neice to the others, "This is my neice, she's 12," Jane smiled proudly.

OOC: Well... eh. There's no other way to say it, I don't think it's a good idea. For several reasons. We've got a lot of stuff stuff backing up, perhaps too much for us to go all-out on a project like that. - Armour - Weapons - The Medlab - The Robot Tank ... to name but a few. You yourself told us that we'd been delaying the medlab and the robot tank for too long, after all - and I agree! We really do need to clear some of these old projects out, get the group fully armed, etc. Once we'd got Workshop 3 I imagined that we'd finally be able to get cracking on those things, but this idea will put us behind on them for a few more weeks. I admit, I don't think of interceptor re-armament as Priority One. I think it's important, but I don't think it's more important than, say, equipping the squad; after all, whether an alien ship crashes or lands, we'll still be sent to deal with it and we'll still get shot at by aliens. Reminding people of the plane getting shot down was just an IC way to remind people that we still had laser cannons on the board. I wasn't too sure that stuff like building a 4th workshop etc was the best plan because I knew that we would be in a position to use some extra equipment about now; to be honest, with the larger numbers of aliens we're seeing etc, I do feel that we can't hold out much longer on group equipment! Yes, the Interceptors will have to grit their teeth for a while, as we develop and build the new cannons the slow way, but the ground team have been gritting their teeth with only a few new bits of equipment for months. And there's only 6 of us, too. Lastly, if we throw all our resources into a single project like that we'll end up wasting some energy that might be put to better use elsewhere. We'll effectively be at 90% or 80% efficiency. Building extra workshops etc was not so much a plan to get added production of single items as it was to allow us to be versatile by building lots of things at once. Anyone else got any thoughts on this?

ooc So the premise then is... the interceptors are 'the star trek TOS redshirts'? sigh... i don't like it, but, i'll grin and bear it. I'll go with whatever you suggest then, SA, more or less. Sounds fine. ----------------- EDIT: origionally this was going to be a PM to LB... but I decided to make this public... whatever we agree on as priority one whether it is lab three this week or whatever, that's where Jane applies her +11 craft mechnical skill i love the banter and indecisiveness sometimes; but, it's annoying to at other times. hehehehe hence, i can see why a lot of people gave up on it. it puts the party at differing opinions over ooc numbers basically that later drive the story and it interferes with the roleplay and the interaction. hence why this campaign is so different than the others. It's one of the reasons I've been toning down on my participation in the discussions in the Resource discussions and inccreasing my side posts. I want to get back to ROLEPLAYING rathing than NUMBER CRUNCHING. If I want to do that, I'll work on my home finances, I got enough bills to pay. I admit I'm a math geek; but, i'm also a roleplayer. Sometimes I like to escape the number crunching drudgery of reality and roleplay. It's only once in a while that I've found the discussions about what do we push our resources towards this week and in the future... actually FUN.... a lot of time it comes across as hard work and less fun to think this stuff out. Perhaps that's just me.

OOC: It'll be ok! I hope. I'm also hoping that by the time they've finished Laser Cannon research, we'll have a fair wodge of equipment. I forsee (well, I hope) that it won't be more than 3 weeks before an Interceptor gets a laser cannon fitted. IC, we might just have to concede the air war for the moment and concentrate on winning the ground war. Hopefully we'll come back in a big way when we're able to make our own flying saucers. OOC, I'm also hoping that we'll never 'lose' the game because of bad choices in research and manufacturing. I also do agree that sometimes this does feel like it's a little too much trouble than it's worth, but I guess I do enjoy it, even if I do approach it from a gamer angle and not a roleplayer angle, even if it means I end up having to find other stuff to write about that's got nothing to do with the base construction. Does mean I have to come up with drivel sometimes; but well, to be honest, Vasily's IC posts about base construction are only thinly-veiled versions of my own OOC point of view anyway. After all, we've got a lot going on! A spy in the base, the shock of seeing those children and the horrific new aliens, chilling with Beta Team, poking fun at Drake, checking up on Dr. Sandesh, having counseling sessions with Drs. Baron and Beauvais, etc...

((OOC Personally I quite enjoy the mechanics, though I admit I would prefer to IC the exchanges rather than keep going OOC all the time. I also tend to use Cat's IC posts on tactics and discussions as ways of reflecting my own ideas. Fortunately she's reasonably intellectual, definately sociable, and a manipulative sod so I'm not bogged down by her character there. I think we should also remember one factor here that seems to get forgotten; the marvellous, not at all mechanical, LB! This is a campaign with a live mind that has a story worked out, it's not a computer AI with a completely predictable behaviour once you learn the rules. I'd expect there to be consequences to inaction as well as action. However, none of those consequences are static. We've already seen particular RP have consequences, eh TBM? Over the last couple of weeks our priorities have shifted every week as a result of things happening in game. While I do believe we should plan, as our equipment depends on it, I don't think we should chisel it on stone; we need to be flexible. Besides, if LB decided something was going to happen, or wasn't going to happen, we could throw everything we had at it and still would or wouldn't!))

| Sounds about right. Maybe if we go something like Medlab 10, Armour 10, Laser Rifle 5, Laser Pistol 5; I'm not sure if we want more than one rifle at the moment as Jane might actually be the only one with the feats to use one to the full (Exotic Firearms). If anyone else has, or just wants a laser rifle anyway, then chip in! Although I'm not 100% sure if 5 points is enough to build a whole laser rifle - I swear someone asked this and it was said that a rifle used up more or less the same time and resources as a pistol, but I'm damned if I can find where. All this assumption... I'm going to look a right twit if it all goes wrong!

sounds fine to me 10/10/5/5 it is then, if no objections... i don't mind waiting, especially, since snakemen are resistant to laser fire by some unknown amount.

Laser Rifles take 50% more resources than a laser pistol to build, so 8 manufacturing points to guarantee having one ready (short of a disaster in the workshop, which can always happen). Personal Armor is the same. Don't worry too much about the exact points for anything, I tend to shift a point around here or there if necessary to finish something, and likewise pump leftover points into something useful if necessary (or I post about it, as I did with the partially finished motion detector).
