"Difficult one," mused the Russian, leaning against a wall near Laboratory 1's small medbay, black coffee in hand and covered with rock-dust. "We get alien power supply, but we not understand it yet. Emails seem to say, 'weapon research not going to get too far without it'."
"But we got projects still in middle of development," he grudgingly muttered. "How about this? We drop laser cannon research. Have 10 folk reassigned to alien power. Keep working on robot tank and autopsy, they nearly done. Robot tank come in handy, maybe in all kind of situations. Attack, fieldwork, all kind."
"Maybe if autopsy and robot tank projects finish up quick we get them to start work on alien handgun... or maybe laser cannon again, would be good if we not leave that too long. Laser defence net good idea, laser added to robot tank good idea... maybe we even get new alien-technology planes like they say, but we still not got any new weapons for them to shoot."
For the manufacturing projects, his opinion is unchanged as he points out selections on his xPhone with a finger - the medlab, the armour, the laser rifle. "Not like we got anything else to build, and hey, we can always give lasers to Beta team if we get anything new."

OOC: *sound of frantic juggling*
Getting the medlab up and running is cool, but given Boomer's insights into protecting us from alien mental attack (a superb parting gift, by the way, Boomer) I'd be very interested to see if Jane can come up with any way to improve our armour. That'd be cool too!

ooc after the medlab is up (with both Vasily and Jane working on it, it should go up beautifully and probably have LOTS of perks!!!) Jane will switch to the armor, sound fair? unless we want to build research lab 3 together later with the two of us? we could form a construction company after this X-COM Gig is over? How does Karsprjak & Swift Construction Ltd. sound? ROFL

Jane found herself agreeing with Vasily once again, "The pilots have been abuzz with chatter about talk when they heard plans for the laser cannons were in progress. They'll be even more excited to hear that they might be getting advanced new ships too. I'm starting to wonder if we need a third research lab for all the advanced research projects down the pipe. We'll deal with that later. Meanwhile, your ideas are sound, Vasily."

Jane put in for yet another day off to see her niece, now that the smuggling ring was broken up. She hoped this time it would be approved.

OOC: Not a bad idea, that... although I'm not sure if Craft: Mech applies to excavating the actual room! Chances are that's covered by Craft: Structural. Craft: Mech might well help when it comes to outfitting rooms, though.

No sooner than Jane put in for a request for a day off... Jane realized a horifying thought: the smuggling files might contain personnel files... her files... particularly her brother and his family.
She raced for Chief Hallorand's office looking for him, "Chief, if any of those smuggled files contained my personnel files, particularly my brother and his family, they are in grave danger. They need to be moved to a safe house immediately. They are in the Federal Witness Relocation Program. They'll know what to do."
The Chief remembered her folder and her history and replied, "Understood."

yup, welding torches don't do much for 1000 tons of rocks 
i do have demolitions 5, if you want to have someone caddy for you? your call if you want me to join the team, it's not the best of skils. send me to work on the armor if you prefer... In a way, I think SA and VM have found their nitch with resource allocation, with SA taking the lead almost. I'm just pointing out long range options typically and keeping notes. Sorry if i'm spammy.

Sweet smiles for everyone that fussed over making her comfortable, particularly that cute nurse, with the eyes you could just drown in, and ohhhh my what an arse. There he was now! Catalina craned her head to watch him walk by, then lay back down after the brief entertainment with a sigh. Being confined to bed wasn't the most entertaining of options when there was no one else in there with you. God I'm bored.
Various medical charts were origami figures sitting around her bed, and she was playing with a Cat's Cradle that had once been the chord that supported them, when the members of Alpha team arrived. The beam of pleasure at the company was obvious, fading only briefly to a grimace of discomfort as she hitched herself up on the bed.
Salutations and enquiries as to health over with she listened as Vas's voice rumbled on over new options, switching her eyes to Jane as she spoke then chimed in. "I have to say I think the alien power source must take priority, from Kim's emails it looks like a several projects depend on it." She turned her head to where she had last seen Dr Sandesh then added quietly. "I'm not convinced about the platform, the thing could end up getting under our feet."
Reaching up Catalina snagged the coffee from the big Russian's fingers. "I'd say keep 5 on laser cannons and drop the platform until the fuel is done. After all, it won't be much use until it has a laser cannon to fit to it." She took a sip of the coffee and grinned.

Scene: Dr. Beauvais’s Office
Jane knocked on Dr. Beauvais’s door and Dr. Beauvais answered, “Please come in.”
As they sat down, Jane asked, “How are you, Dr. Beauvais?”
The counselor replied, “I’m well, thank you. How are you, Jane?”
Jane’s look turned to anxiousness, which was immediately noticed by the counselor, “I’m worried for the safety of my brother and his family. I don’t know what you know about my history, so it’s about time I fill you in. Four years ago, December 11, 2006, I got married to a wonderful man, Samuel Coleman. He was assassinated in front of my brother’s family and I on the way to the reception. We were all given new identities since we helped to put away those responsible for my husband’s death. Now that there’s been a breach in the security files of X-COM, their lives are potentially at risk again. I’ve asked Chief Hallorand to contact Witness Relocation to be on alert and to move them once again.”
The counselor was stunned, “I was not privy to some of this; but, now I see why you’ve been so apprehensive. I’ll see what I can do from my end.”
Jane was grateful, “Thank you.”
The counselor replied, “You’re quite welcome. We can’t have our agents distracted in the field. How are things going otherwise?”
Jane felt like a great weight had been lifted, “The four of us are recovering after that mission. Catalina almost died, Vasily went down, I was hanging on by a thread, Buzz wasn’t doing too well either; we could have lost all of us. I know the bit about retreat and all; maybe the only reason I wasn’t kissing the floor: you know, cover and strategic retreat and all. We did what we could given the situation, maybe we could have done it better, I’d be the first to admit it; but, we at least know what to expect, survive and basically complete the missions. It gets a bit odd sometimes; but, that’s the job.”
The counselor looked at Jane with concern, “How are you handling this shift in reality, shall we say?”
Jane sniffed a few laughs, “Living out all our world’s B-movie Sci-Fi flicks wrapped up in one? It ain’t no picnic, I’ll tell you that much. Sometimes, I’m half-expecting Klaatu or Ming or some Borg or Sith Master to be the next menace to be stepping off these alien ships, either that or some reject from Dr. Moreau’s Island.”
The counselor replied, “You’re taking it well, at least.”
Jane looked at her watch, ”I should get going, I wanted to go check in on Catalina.”
The counselor nodded, “Next week then?”
Jane nodded, “Sure thing, Doc.”

Vasily rolled his eyes and shook his head, looking a little miffed at the coffee-napping but apparently unwilling to snatch it back from a hospitallised woman. "If you cannot see value of extra team member who can take a few shots, I not sure what to say. But you can break news to Dr. Sandesh that we shelving his project again."
After a few moments looking a little irritated, he finally storms off to the cafeteria after Catalina takes another triumphant sip. "I suppose you want milk, now, huh?" he calls, intent on getting a fresh cup.

"No, milk takes the edge off the taste. Wouldn't mind some biscuits though!" Catalina called back, grinning mischievously. "As for the platform, if you insist you want it then fine. Something to hide behind wouldn't have gone amiss last mission, I just don't want it under my feet or turning on me when my back is turned." She paused a moment, took another sip, and the grin broadened. "Make the biscuits chocolate ones."

It's not long before Vasily comes back in, bearing a few eatables from the cafeteria. He leaves them in the group's care, scowling for show.
"Here. Need you fit. Need you all fit," he adds ominously. "Word is, maybe we getting another field agent in Team Alpha. I think it time we shake up the way we do things. I talk to you all when you up and about, ok?"
