welcome cigol712
interesting name, what's the significance of it? Sounds like it has history.

I look forward to meeting you at our next session.

My name is Stephanie, I also go by Jenniza on the internet, so either is fine. She was my first NWN & Baulder's Gate character, so the name stuck as my internet name. (I was parial to the name Jennifer when I was little; but, it would have been too confusing to change it as it's my cousin's name) Jenniza turned out to be a REAL NAME in an embarassing incident 4 years later with a YouTube login... after having well established myself on the internet as Jenniza, so it was way too late to undo it all... I was out there with the pen name as Jenniza. It's now been 5 or 6 years.

Anyway, downloads page for X-COM is here:

http://home.comcast.net/~rampage97/games/NWN/Lazybones_XCOM/downloads.htm

please note there are 3 custom portraits for Jane (my character), Catalina (VM), Vasily (SA) to download as well by clicking on their portraits. I'll include your portrait when I know which portrait it is.

Wheee! Either the player who's playing James Allen is a Battlestar Galactica fan too or ... uh ... Apollo just looks that good for a portrait.

Anyway. Yeah, Cigol712 does have a bit of a history. Cigol is actually "logic" spelled backwards, and was also the name of the first character I RP'd as on a very-dedicated basis. He was a wonderfully old, senile, and slightly insane wizard The 712 are just lucky numbers (remember, I made handle when it was still cool to put in random numbers)

I'm still building the character so I'll post the portrait when I've figured it all out. I'm also studying SAS assault tactics so I can actually talk and know what I'm talking about.

Also, thanks for the welcome. You guys seem so nice (=

With Buzz transferred to more-or-less permanent duty working on the control systems for the new experimental aircraft, and Cat away on her mission in France, things are quiet at HQX. Jane and Vasily pitch in on the new reactor project, but while Jane is able to fix a busted power junction, saving a day's work, Vasily proves to be all thumbs.

ooc
Jane Swift, +12 Craft Mechanical, roll 3 + 12 = 15 minor success (+1 engineer for project)
Vasily Kasparjak, +7 Craft Mechanical, roll 4+7 = 11 neutral result (neither helps nor hinders project)

IC
After talking about Agent Drake's e-mail, the pair venture to the cell in the East Wing where Doctor Okwelume is being held. The guards there are polite but they watch as the two Alphas greet the prisoner. A camera records the exchange.

Doctor Okwelume rises slowy from his bunk, and comes to the armored-glass doors of his cell. He looks like he has aged a decade in just a few days. "Grace told me about your project," he says. "I am willing to help, but I understand your concerns. I have already told your commanders everything I know about my betrayal. I bear no animosity toward this organization, or to humanity; I would help, if it was permitted."

OOC: All set. Portraits are these: http://www.ventsombre.net/pnwn3.php?ident=1100

It's included with the portrait pack for d20 modern, so no extra downloading necessary ... unless you've deleted those portraits from your system already. In which event, it's portrait number 131 from that stash, I think.

Also, character issues I've noticed for myself. There is no official "Sergeant major" rank in the British Army anymore (though they still refer to Warrant Officers as such, so no big deal really). Also, SAS doesn't allow females to serve—let's just assume they lifted that (inane) restriction in 2008. Aaaand my character is offically strong/fast/soldier, with a knack for tactics, navigation, survival, and things that go BOOM.

I'll post something IC about her assignment later on. Whee.

I think we're technically in 2010 or so... I mistakenly mislabeled the calendar as around Spring, because that was as far out as I could get real life movie schedules for coming attractions to write posts for (still more posts to come *grins* as a result). So, when I discovered that the story was supposed to START in DECEMBER of 2010.... I was like BLAH... and just kept on going with my storyline anyway. *grins* A litle bending of the truth to fit the story can go a long way cigol

I'll update the portrait page shortly.

I have some work to do on my computer today.

ooc over the next few posts i was going to have Jane slowly introduce the topic of SEER (ie Guantanimo Bay, ie what is referred to as psychological conditioning or questioning or even as some call it torture to gain answers to qustions.... all regards to what might be the fate awaiting doctor Okwelume, should we release him.... and the possible alternative of .... doing it ... ourselves in controlled situations ... under Dr. Beauvais' supervision on X-Com's facilities with Agent Drake guiding the questions and optionally Alpha Team roleplaying through posts or in-game questioning him....

I bring this up NOW ooc'ly long before actually writing up any posts because of the sensitive matter involved and the hot topics involved.

If there are ANY objections speak now and we can make this either NOT happen EVER or put certain guidelines on the discussions and posts, etc. Feel free to say this publicly or privately to Lazybones, or me or someone, and they can relay a message to me so that I know whether to curtail or even to never go forth with this topic. I'll wait a few days.

"Nos a Guilielmo victi victoris patrium liberavimus," the male half of what appeared to be a young couple murmured. The sun shone brightly, reflected off the rows of white headstones adjacent to the unusually quiet Bayeaux peripherique as they stood before the memorial at the British cemetary. The trip across the Channel had been oddly reminiscent of a historical re-enactment Catalina had seen some years before, when a flotilla of small ships had commemorated Dunkirk. Their own passage had been readily disguised in the steady stream of ships travelling between the English and French coasts, on this occasion packed with refugees.

The couple had reached French soil at the small town of Arromanche, passing the remnants of the floating harbour used to support the later landings. The bicycles they had used to travel the road to Bayeaux, and hence the arranged rendevous, lay not far away. They had seen no sign of the aliens, but the movement of French army troops was very evident. As had been reported, they were doing little to prevent the exodus, but were watchful of entry. Though the roads were less busy, so far the remaining ordinary countryfolk seemed, if anything, bemused by the fuss and were going about everyday business.

As the two were gazing at the stone monument a distinguished, greying man approached and stood beside the couple. "Do you think they will do so again?" he asked, nodding up at the latin inscription. "Every citizen should do their duty," the younger man turned towards him and replied, perfectly reproducing the French dialect. The older man smiled and held out a hand, "Captain Jean Remillard, Normandy unit." "Lieutenant Alexander Stanning," the younger said, accepting the hand then indicating his companion, "and this is Miss Catalina De Farrago. Currently our expert in the matter of joint concern." Captain Remillard took Catalina's hand and kissed it. "Charmed," he added, "Your assistance can only add to the pleasure I already feel at your presence." Catalina smiled brightly in return. "After such a welcome I should waste no time in providing it to the best of my ability." "Indeed, our time is short, and we are yet to meet our primary contact," Stanning added. "Then we will proceed to the meeting. Indeed Warrant Officer Amiri is already with us," Remillard responded, "If you would follow me..."

((OOC - Can't say I'm sad you postponed! A snippet to let Cigol in, as per request. Welcome by the way. Included a little tip of the hat to those who fought in Normandy, for those who are interested.))

Jane nodded to Dr. Okwelume, "Thank you for your cooperation. We will do our best to make this situation work. The reactor is important to X-COM and thus to the survival of humanity. Again, thank you for your continuing cooperation."

She was itchy. Her patrol had lasted all of two weeks, no fire or warm food allowed. She ached for a cigarette, or coffee at the very least. She hadn't bathed in that time and had only just been afforded the opportunity to wash the camouflage from her face. Two weeks' worth of her own excrement still sat snugly inside her backpack—no trace of her presence in the field could be left behind for anyone to come across. She did not exist.

Soheil Amiri never thought of herself as beautiful, or even pretty at that. Even on leave, she never applied makeup to her face, never spent money on jewelry or dresses. She had no romantic ties, no family except her father in London. Perhaps it was her almost single-minded dedication to her service that allowed her to progress as far as she had. She was among the first women to be accepted into the SAS after the restriction was lifted nearly 3 years ago—which was no small feat in and of itself. She was the ranking noncom of Squadron A. Her dedication at times possibly frightened her colleagues—whenever volunteers were called for, she was always first. This was one of those occasions. Some wondered if she had a death wish.

Four spooks had been assembled at the base in Credenhill, herself designated as team leader with three other noncoms from other squadrons. France had just signed the treaty with the aliens, and Soheil's team was to be responsible for aiding the Resistance movement. Their patrol entailed ensuring the safety of a particular cell in Arromanche—though, their exact importance was not made readily known to her. Her team had been snuck in by boat and since then, they watched the movements of the French Army in the area. Besides an initial meeting, they had very little contact with Captain Remillard except for short transmissions reporting the Army's whereabouts.

The patrol over and debriefing done, the other three were already on their way home disguised as refugees. Soheil had explicit orders to remain behind, but was, of course, on a need-to-know basis. She figured she might be staying behind to help train Resistance fighters, but command said nothing about it. They did tell her that her next contact was from MI6—which led to the question, what the hell was she getting into?

She stood in the bare, windowless back room of a small restaurant in town, a shoddy table with four wooden chairs nearby. Her pack rested against the wall, but her rifle remained firmly in her arms—she was not ready to feel at ease just yet. Her eyes watched the lone door, the only entrance and exit to the room. Captain Remillard would be back soon ...

Vasily frowns as Jane answers for the both of them, but sighs helplessly and begins to type out a message on his X-Phone. "I not like this," he mutters, but nevertheless sends:

FROM: V. KASPRJAK
TO: Special Agent Inise Drake
RE: Traitors

We of Alpha Team agree that harsh measures are needed. we have been on front lines, we know is getting tougher. We know you (personaly) have hard job, and we understnad where you coming from in wanting to take Dr Ok for procesing. We not wanting to antagonice US goverment.

It is profesional opinion of alpha team thouh that it is not only secrets Dr Ok may know that is important. He also have skills, and this agency need those skills riht now. I personaly agree that maybe Dr Ok best moved elsewere, but at same time i do not want to cut off my nose to spite my face. Maybe this issue can be raisd agan after reactor is bilt?

OOC: Hi Cigol! Nice to see Alpha Team finally getting another soldier-type. As for the SAS, usually I'd agree that it's an outmoded restriction, but it's hard to argue with their results!

ooc what cracks me up is the British show on BBC-America from 2002 or so... Ultimate Force... the only female character is an Intel/Commnications Officer they teasingly call "The Tea Lady" *grins*... reminds me of my husband's favoirte 1950's Commander Cody series where they brought a woman aboard the spaceship .... so that the man could have someone to cook and clean for them.

Bob: "so what's the problem, I don't understand... someone's got to do the cooking and cleaning... where's the problem?"

Stephanie: *stare... glare....*

Bob: "I mean they can't do all the heroic stuff, and then cook dinner..."

Stephanie: *glare... stare...*

ooc VERY CLOSE CALL... Everyone is safe

Yesterday my Mom called up for the zillionth time that she locked herself out of the house yet again... hehehe... I've never complained... much... hehhehe... I've always driven over and let her in... with a gracious smile on my face. Always! I even took her to Best Buy to get her a pair of converter boxes so that her TV's are ready for when the US makes the switch to "Digital TV" February 2009. She was however too tired for me to stay and install them.... all combined... those decisions and events saved my life and my home.... and a lot of stress.

As I drove home... I was greeted with a whole bunch of whizzing firetrucks and ambulances as I cut across the back roads towards the turn to my house... I'm wondering... wow, sure is a lot of activity yet again in our neighborhood... wonder who it is this time, I hope they are okay... I wonder if it is my neighbor, the old neighbor Barbara who lives by herself.... I turn down the street to my house... up over the hill and then down the hill... sure enough... five to six fire trucks in front of house down the block... oh crap, I hope it's not her... I hope it's not her house.... oh crap... I hope it's not MY house... oh crap... they're in front of my house too... I'm gonna have to park way back here and figure out what to do next.... so off I trot up right to the police officers and ask... fire at her house, she's okay, just upset, they got her out in time, thank goodness.... can I enter my house? yes, but not the back yard, there's a downed power line in the back yard from branches that came down ... the ones I've been complaining about to PECO for years and they've done nothing about, you mean? can I enter my house now? go in back of the fire engines THAT way ... all the way around.... neighbor let's me use his cell phone to make frantic cell phone call to Bob who's already driving home and will be here in one hour and would go nuts if he sees this and not knowing my fate. just then I see a fireman, axe in hand knocking at my my house door, frantic voice mail to Bob is cut short as I dart off to stop the fireman from chopping my door down like they did to the woman's garage to get in. I escort the fireman through my house in the dark, counting steps and everything (he's impressed) to the power box to shut everything off for the power company. I grab my cell phone and head out (house with no electricity, no A/C, no computer, no TV, etc is boring compared to all the excitement outside) I spent the rest of the time outisde til Bob got home about 90 minutes later. I gave the PECO guy a guided tour of the branches that have been threatening the power lines in our back yard for years, and I kept on him all night to make sure that they'd be addressed. Persistance paid off as they had the tree service people there quickly for 6+ houses cleaning the branches with a promise to be back later to do more work at THEIR expense. They restored service in about 3.5 hours too to satisfy the other neighbors concerns.

Net result: her house damaged, no one injured, everyone had a bit of an adventure and some stress... and people got to meet some of the neighbors more.

I'd say we had a 50/50 shot of our house being hit when the branches came down and started the fire.... it would have been the computer room I'd have been in had my Mom not called me out of the house for that set of errands.

How's that for Fate, coincidence or luck, or whatever one believes in?

---------------

we're taking a break for the weekend,

hugs, cya later
Stephanie

Vive la Resistance!

Lieutenant Stanning and Catalina entered the restaurant and were seated as if customers seeking a belated meal. Captain Remillard entering some 15 minutes later taking a seat at the bar, and over the course of the next 15 minutes several customers finished their meals and exited to take up positions watching the street. A few more customers left, then at a nod from Remillard the remainder gradually entered the room at the back. Lastly Remillard nodded to Stanning and Catalina, who took the cue to do so.

The room was a little crowded, but Stanning pushed his way over to Soheil taking in her appearance. "Sergeant Major, I presume? I have instructions for you shortly." He didn't wait for a reply, but turned to Remillard. "If you don't mind, time is short, so I'd like to press on." The older man inclined his head graciously and waved all to silence. That obtained, Stanning nodded his thanks and began in the same French as before. "I'd like to introduce myself as Lieutenant Alexander Stanning, I'll be your liaison from this point on. Support in terms of equipment is being arranged as quickly as possible, but in the short term I have the best expert on potential tactics we can produce with me. Her time is particularly short, so we will proceed to a briefing immediately."

At that he waved Catalina forward. With the eyes of 10 French men and women, each from a different resistance cell, upon her she began a succinct and thorough briefing on any and all intelligence they had so far. Not the Catalina evident from X-COM base, but the cool, sharp, astute political agent that she was trained to be. After the delivery she asked for questions, and listened carefully to what they had to say attempting to glean new information from what arose and advising as best she could.

After the meeting ended, the three British were left alone in the room. "Catalina, I would like you to meet Sergeant Major Soheil Amiri. She'll be escorting you back shortly." Holding out her hand Catalina smiled at Soheil, which became a keenly assessing look at Stanning's next words. "Amiri, you will be returning to XCOM HQ with Miss De Farrago here. Any questions?"

Soheil firmly shook Catalina's hand, though she would have preferred saluting—in her mind, she was much too much a soldier, she figured. At Stanning's question, she shook her head. "Sir, I only ask, when do we leave?"

Given the situation, she thought it would be inappropriate now to ask for time for a shower—the more pressing matter at hand was that she was going to X-COM with De Ferago. In other words, she was going straight to the front lines in this extraterrestrial war. The prospect indeed excited her, but she kept it hidden under a cooler, more disciplined facade in the presence of her superiors.

She considered De Farago. Things were about to get more interesting than ever before.

James Allen:

Jim shook his head in frustration as he worked on the improved medi-kits in the med lab. He just didn't understand why someone was going off on vacation in the middle of a live-or-die war against aliens who seemed dedicated to exterminating humanity. He knew they'd need as many of these suckers as he and the rest of the team could make, given how the alien firepower seemed to be increasing faster than X-Com's armor quality.

After working a long shift, Jim headed back to the group quarters. It had been quite lately, though the rumor was they'd have a new team member soon. Jim had a bite to eat, took a shower, and soon was soundly asleep. Just before nodding off, he realized every day for the past two weeks had gone pretty much the same. Guess tedium and hard work is better than getting blown to pieces by aliens.

There and back again

As the small boat headed back across the Channel, the two women stood watching the lights of the other small boats go by. "We've a little time to cross the channel, it might be a good idea to catch up while we have that luxury,” Catalina said, turning to the soldier. “There's a fair bit you might need to know, it's a steep learning curve."

Soheil nodded slowly, focusing her mind. The information that Catalina had given in the back room of the restaurant had been a lot already, but with more to come, she prepared her mind to absorb as much as she could. "One thing to be aware of is they are not formally aware I am SIS. We didn't know this was the real thing to begin with, so the decision was taken to send a political agent not armed forces. It's best you keep that to yourself."

"Ma'am, I will be whatever this operation requires me to be." Soheil replied and Catalina laughed. “I think you'll find that's a moving target.” The soldier smiled, trying to match Catalina's good-humor about the situation. "Then I will take my best aim."

"Another thing, feel free to call me Catalina, or Cat. I've the unofficial rank of lieutenant from Sandhurst, but there's none of us with a formal rank in the unit. All being seconded to the UN, of course."

"You'll have to excuse me if I find this a little difficult at first, then, ma'am. The training and all. Cat, I mean. Is it really this informal at the HQ?"

"I'm afraid so Sergeant,” Catalina smiled. “Though a couple have military experience, the Russian Kasprjak more than a little, we're sort of working it out amongst ourselves."

Soheil rubbed her chin. The thought of the unstructured environment actually frightened her somewhat, more than the thought of aliens. "Do you have an idea what my duties will include when we reach HQ?"

Catalina gave another quick smile. "That depends, between missions we've been chipping in to get things done where we can. Staffing is still tight. On task, of course, that changes. We play to our strengths. How familiar are you with the team?"

"Not very, ma'am. I haven't met them yet."

Clicking her tongue derisively, Catalina shook her head. "Typical that no one had prepared a brief. Oh well, it will have to be verbal. The team has shifted a little, but there's a core still there.”

"I'm used to being on a need to know basis," Soheil replied, “It... happens with SAS."

"Mmm... so I hear, but this time you need to know." Catalina grinned a little. "There're two teams, Alpha and Beta; you'll be joining Alpha I believe. We've a couple of members on extended duty. Doc Baron was our behavior man, and Buzz Oloff is a tech specialist. Both are U.S. civilians and good team members. The latest recruit was Dr Yoav Yered, an Israeli technical expert and also, I believe, a civilian. I don't know too much about him yet."

Nodding, Soheil remarked, "That's a lot of civilians for such an operation."

Catalina nodded too, somewhat ruefully. "In theory, there are two more if you include myself, as Jane Swift is a CIA operative with no military experience I know of. She's a weapons specialist, a sniper attached to the Agency."

Soheil gasped unintentionally, but collected herself. She laughed a bit. "Does that leave me as the lone military wolf?"

The grin on Catalina’s face widened. "No, two of us have active military service. Dr. James Allen is a field medic with the US Army, though I'm not sure of his designation or experience, our records didn't stretch that far. Good medic too, knows his stuff. Vasily Kasprjak is the only real soldier, Voiska Osbogo Naznacheniya too, so I tend to defer to his field tactics."

"You'll also have my field tactical knowledge as well, then." She scratches her chin. "I also have proficiencies in working with demolitions, infiltration, and long-term survival. I hope these may be put to good use as well."

"Infiltration tends to be my bag, my training revolved around it… " She grinned again, "… naturally. Though Jane has some talent. Personally though, I've found it useful to hide behind Vas. He's big enough, and the backside is worth watching."

"Of course, there's always my rifle to fall back on," Soheil replied.

"To be honest, it's force we need. I'm a good shot but," Catalina shrugged, "Like I said, my training is in close combat. An extra person handy with a gun is definitely welcome."

"Well then you have it with me, ma'am." Her hand suddenly twitched, as if missing having a weapon in hand. She rubbed it with her other hand and turned her attention back to Catalina. "Have there been many casualties at XCOM? I have to wonder why I'm being assigned suddenly."

Catalina gave her a rueful look. “Jane came really close but Stan, the chief medical, managed to bring her back. I've had close calls too, though not quite as bad. But no, no casualties as such. The space is due to Buzz's secondment."

"It sounds like we're in good hands, then. Who is my new commander, anyway?" the soldier asked.

"Chief Hallorand is base commander, a good man, but the top man is Garret from the UN. Oh," Catalina’s gave a slightly wicked grin, "and there's Agent Drake, liaison from the FBI and the voice of the Department of Homeland Security."

"Great, those buggers. I'll make do." Soheil smiled. "This promises to be a very, very interesting next several weeks..."

Catalina’s eyes danced merrily, "Oh that I can guarantee."

Dr. Wagner's weekly e-mail.

FROM: DR. KIMBERLY WAGNER, X-COM RESEARCH LEAD
TO: MEMBERS, ALPHA TEAM
CC: MICHAEL GARRET, GRACE THELON BELUCA, AGENT INISE DRAKE
RE: Research/Manufacturing Progress Report

Chief Engineer Thelon Beluca is reluctantly reporting that the reactor project is behind schedule. Her engineering team is working triple shifts and we hope to have the new reactor online by the end of the week.

Grace has integrated the work on the new Laser Defense battery with the finishing work on the reactor. She welcomes any help from Alpha in finishing either project.

Research Priorities (20 points total):

Completed Research:

  • Laser Weapons: Research complete. Laser pistols may be constructed.
  • Laser Rifle: Research complete.
  • Laser Cannon: Research complete. All future interceptors will be equipped with this weapon.
  • Laser Defense: Improved base defenses may be constructed.
  • Motion Scanner: Research complete.
  • Heavy Weapons Platforms: Research complete. Laser Tanks may be constructed.
  • Alien Medicine: Research complete. The new Medical Lab will produce eight medikits per week. Dr. White reports that when the lab is involved in research projects, such as alien autopsies, the rate of production will slow. Further upgrades may come from research into alien life forms.
  • Alien Alloys: Research complete. Personal Armor is now available for manufacture.
  • Sectoid Prisoner: Research complete.
  • Alien Navigation: Research complete.
  • Alien Power Supply: Research complete.
  • Sectoid Autopsy: Research complete.
  • Snakeman Autopsy: Research complete.
  • Floater Autopsy: Research complete.

Current Projects:
None at this time.

Available Projects:

  • Plasma Pistol: An alien weapon.
  • Plasma Rifle: A more powerful alien weapon.
  • Small Launcher: An alien stun weapon.
  • Vibroblade: An alien melee weapon.
  • Alien Grenade: These explosives seem to be based on a biochemical agent combined with a tiny amount of Elerium-115.
  • Powered Armor: Chief Engineer Beluca reports that we can now research an improved armor based upon the Elerium-115 power source. (ooc: this is medium armor)
  • Alien Medicine (Level 2): Doctor White reports that there are new areas of medical research available; he will e-mail you with more information.

Current Prisoners held in Alien Containment:

  • Snakeman Soldier: We have several of these aliens in captivity. Once research is complete they will be sent to a central holding facility off-site.
  • Floater Navigator.
  • Floater Soldier.
  • Sectoid Engineer.

Manufacturing Priorities (30 points)

  • Elerium-115 Reactor(20): Behind schedule but approaching completion.
  • Research Capacity: Research Labs 1 and 2 are fully operational. Further expansions will run into problems due to base size limitations.
  • Medical Capacity: the Medical Lab is fully operational.
  • Manufacturing Capacity: Workshops 1, 2, and 3 are fully operational. Further expansions will run into problems due to base size limitations.
  • Base Defense (10): Missile Defense has been completed. Laser Defense is under construction. Current base defense factor: 10 (will be 40 after Laser Defense and the Elerium Reactor are finished)
  • Laser Pistol: Seven units have been constructed. Units may be constructed with an integrated VDU targeting system (+3 engineer-weeks per unit).
  • Laser Rifle: One unit has been constructed.
  • Motion Sensor: Two units have been constructed.
  • Personal Armor: Six suits have been constructed. Helmets have been upgraded to resist mental attacks. Units may be constructed with stealth augmentation (+4 engineer-weeks per unit)
  • Medikit: Current level: Advanced Medikit 1. Doctor White's medical lab can construct eight of these kits each week without compromising our manufacturing capacity. If you wish to dedicate additional resources to the project, the kits can be produced at a faster rate.
  • Heavy Weapons Platform: Rocket Launcher: One prototype (damaged) produced. One Laser Tank produced, now seriously damaged. Doctor Sandesh reports that it will take 3 engineers one week to restore the HWP to full working order.

OOC: Your current allocations are listed in parens above. Note that I shifted the Laser Defense from 10 researchers to 10 engineers, to reflect the changeover from theory to production, and that all remaining engineers are engaged in the reactor project. At this point it's all implementation, not research, so all 20 researchers are available for reassignment. You're also welcome to select a manufacturing project for when the reactor and/or laser defenses are completed.

Doctor White sends Doctor Allen an e-mail, copying the rest of Alpha Team.

RE: Medical Priorities

James:

First off, I'd like to thank you for your help in the medical lab these last weeks. We're making progress, and I know that Alpha has made good use of the new medikits.

Our study of the alien life forms (both living and dead) has opened up new avenues of medical research. We are continuing our work on a bioweapon that will work on alien physiology. Based on your reports on how the stun gas worked on the floaters and snakemen, we anticipate having useful results before too long.

Here are the projects that I believe we can complete, with the proper support.
  • Advanced Medikit 2: With continued work we can make the standard medikit even more effective. This is the least "expensive" option in terms of resources, and I project that with our full biological research team assigned to it, we can have results in as little as a week.
  • Advanced Surgical Kit: I've taken your reports on battlefield medical treatment and built an advanced field intervention kit that can resuscitate a dying soldier. It still needs some tests and additional work before it's ready for full production. (ooc: this item is a one-shot Raise Dead)
  • Elerium-powered Biogenesis Unit: Taking a cue from Grace's fancy reactor project, I've drawn up plans for an advanced device that we can use for our medical projects based on alien tech. This will require you to twist some elbows to release a quantity of that precious Elerium, but I project that the Unit will increase medikit production by 50-75%, and may possibly have other benefits as well. This project will be time consuming and require both researchers and manufacturers to make it happen, but I'm confident that it will provide results.

We've also been working with Doctor Yered's nanotechnology submission, and hope to have additional useful medical applications in the field soon. I hope he will return soon to assist with these efforts.

I also have some ideas for a serum that may allow us to tap into the regenerative powers of the alien DNA. This is a long-term project but any assistance you can provide, to this or any of the projects above, may be incredibly vital.
