Heartlands - Tale of the Serpent

We're a fairly new playerworld that is looking for players, DMs, and builders (builders and coders) looking for a new online multiverse to delve into.

This world was started by a group of friends that had been playing, admining, and building on numerous worlds since NWN's release. We wanted to make a place that we were excited to log in to when we had the free time to. We wanted to create a fair and player friendly pw that was a great place to escape and roleplay.

Community - We're very small now as we're just starting out, but the folks we do have are great rpers and great people.

Roleplay - We're hoping to create a world in which the player's involvement affects the world itself. We have a few prolific builders that enjoy building and working in the toolset, so we think we'll be able to sustain this project for a while to come.

PVE focus - While we have a PVE focus, we do acknowledge that sometimes rp driven PVP occurs and have the rules in place for such. For the most part, we hope that players will be able to log in, roleplay a character in friendly and tense situations and enjoy themselves and the outcome.

Penalties - Penalties are in place only for the "realism" of the setting. Until level 6 there is no penalty for dying at all, for example. Then after that, there is a penalty to experience and gold on the player. This is only to encourage the natural "fear of death", not to punish the explorer.

Crafting - We're going to have GM assisted crafting now and a combination of GM assisted crafting (quest based, etc.) and scripted once a clearer and more friendly 1.69 system is in place.

HAKS - We'd be considered hak heavy. However, there is a reason. With the final official update to NWN, we want the tools in place to create a beautiful and believable world that will stand up to the test of time over the upcoming years. We believe that with tilesets like the ones Lord of Worms and Lord Rosenkrantz along with other custom animations, loadscreens, and coding, we believe that we have the groundwork to make something that is competitive with other more modern games.

Low Magic - We'd be considered low magic as well. There are a lot of things you can do (especially using haks) to make a lot of interesting weapons, armor, and clothing without needing magical bonuses. There is the argument that low magic makes magic users a bit overpowered in higher levels, but for us, this is also desireable. A high level mage would be something that we believe to be feared in a fantasy setting. We balance that out with safe resting spots (not timers).

Setting - We have a flexible but detailed setting. We've chosen a chunk of the Heartlands map from the Forgotten Realms setting because it has the geographical and social settings we think we can create in a fun environment.

Subraces/Classes - We will be implementing a few subraces but those that aren't standard (drow) will be treated by players as hostile races. This is in future development so, for now, we have the standard races only. The classes we offer will be the ones that come with NWN and the expansions.

If this type of playerworld interests you, I would encourage you to come by our forums at http://www.theheartlands.net/ , register, and read through the posts to see if this rapidly developing playerworld is something you'd like to join.

Our DMs will also be advertising for events/quests (either singular or weekly sessions) here at NWN Connections as well if you're interested in attending those.
