I'm posting this to any/all people on NWC who may be interested in participating as regular players in an ongoing campaign using NWN2. This would be an attempted revival/re-start of a campaign that I ended in late November 2009 due to an insufficient pool of players who were capable of actually showing up for scheduled games that they had signed-up for. That said, there were several regular/reliable players and they are certainly more than welcome to continue with their PCs (you know who you are). This campaign is set in and around the Forgotten Realms city of Arabel in northern Cormyr, and requires NWN2 + MotB + SoZ patched up to v1.23, as it does take advantage of ADL functionality. The current version of the module has roughly 55 areas in it, generally fully developed. Initial ADL download is projected to be around 200 mb, with over half of that coming from hak files, which many players will likely already have a portion of from prior downloads. Link to NWVault information page: http://nwvault.ign.com/View.php?view=NWN2Gameworlds.Detail&id=226 I am looking to form a group consisting of 4-5 players who will form a generally rounded adventuring company (i.e. representation from the general "Wizard/Fighter/Rogue/Cleric" class groupings). The focus will be on lower level adventuring, with lump sum XP rewards at the end of each game session. With thanks to Mulu, these are my expectations of those who plan on participating:
This is a campaign environment, which means you need to be able to commit to showing up for 3 out of 4 games. Life always gets in the way of playing, but if you miss too many sessions you start to ruin the experience for others. If you are going to miss a session, post a note in the game forum letting me know you are going to be absent so I don't wait for you to log in. The only other policies are common sense from many years of gaming which I'm sure many people can agree with: play nice and try to make the game fun for everyone. We're here to relax and enjoy ourselves. I do not tolerate excessive bickering or hoarding, even if "IC." I believe players can create characters who have a personality of being cooperative and make IC choices that take into account the fact that nobody wants to experience a griefer in game, no matter how "true to character" the RP is. Realize that sometimes an individual player's desires have to make way for group enjoyment. Overly selfish or confrontational PC's are disruptive in a small group RP environment. Please do not roll up a psycho killer or a wealth obsessed thief. Make choices that will allow the game to be enjoyed by everyone. Posted game start times signify when I as the DM plan on starting the game. The server will be available to download content 30-45 minutes ahead of this time. Everyone is expected to plan accordingly... 7:30 means 7:30 not 8:15. |
| Game sessions would be every 2nd week, either Wednesday or Saturday evenings, between 7:30 and 10:00 PM CST (Eastern -1). The determining factor will be what works for the most people, the most often. If you are interested in participating, post in this thread indicating desired game night and player race/class, as well as the date you'd be available to start. Once I have a clear list of four people registering interest in playing, we will decide collectively on an agreeable start date and I will post the game for sign-up.

I would like to join your campaign. Unfortunately I can only commit to the Wednesday time slot.

This sounds great. I'd love to join the group. I'm free on Wednesdays and usually Saturdays as well. I've never played in a group before however. Not sure if that will be a problem. As far as classes go, I enjoy playing Rangers, Rogues, and I always enjoy healing classes in mmo's, so i've been interested in trying out the Cleric class. I prefer an even blend of RP and action. Basically I'm up for anything though.

Thank you everyone for expressing interest. Looks like we're almost at the point where I'm going to look at planning a game. Ideally I'd like to secure one more expression of interest. I'm going to reach out and contact my old NWN group to see if anyone is interested in participating (but if anyone reading this is interested, please go ahead and post a message). ShadanisLowlyServant: You're welcome to continue on with the PC you were using before. tinbender: Wednesday looks like it'll be the night, every 2nd week as mentioned in my original post. What race/class would you be interested in? Albionforever: 7:30 CST is 5:30 PST... correct. Wizard or Sorcerer are both fine, as are any of Elf/Half-Elf/Human/Gnome races. Naymliis: Prior MP experience isn't really all that important as long as you're interested in a role play environment. In my campaign you can and sometimes will spend significant time interacting with NPCs in an inn, or discussing a plot advancing occurrence with a city official (as examples). As long as you are up for that (and not simply looking to run around randomly killing things and looking for loot), you'll do just fine. As for your preferences, any of Ranger, Rogue or Cleric is acceptable. If you decide on Cleric, please consult with me on the deity you plan on worshiping, as that will determine which Domains you have available to choose from during character creation.

So I think i'd like to play a rogue for my first MP game. If that works with everyone else, i'll call that slot. Also, do we need any extra programs for this? Like Vent or some type of voip? Or do we do all the talking via chatbox/typing?

| It's all done via typing/chat. I can't handle all the questions I'd be getting from my wife if I tried to do it over voice... I get enough as it is while I'm playing CoD: W@W with my clan. Building towards a game in early February I think... more to post soon... if I don't yet have an email address for you, please send one to nwndm1@gmail.com. Thanks.

are there any restrictions to what race we play? I've been using a tiefling for the OC. I like the extra attribute points and could care less about the slower leveling. I'd like to know if i should practice with a human or some other race. thanks.

Drow and the 'elemental' planetouched races are off limits. I looked the Tiefling race up on the NWN2 Wiki:
Carrying the very taint of evil in their forms, and perhaps their very souls, tieflings are often persecuted and feared throughout the planes. Because they are descended from evil outsiders, those who know their ancestry immediately consider most tieflings evil and untrustworthy. Not all tieflings are evil or untrustworthy, but enough are that the prejudice tends to cling. Some tieflings have a minor physical trait suggesting their heritage, such as pointed teeth, red eyes, small horns, the odor of brimstone, cloven feet, or just an unnatural aura of wrongness. Those descended from an infernal minion often carry a birthmark of the deity's holy symbol or another trait related to that evil faith. Level adjustment: +1. Tieflings are slightly more powerful and gain levels more slowly than other races. It will take more experience for a tiefling to reach level 2 than it would for normal races, for example.

So... I would say this:
- Remember that you'll start at 2nd level when everyone else starts off at 3rd. In a low level campaign, you might find being one (or potentially two) levels behind other players a significant trade-off.
- Note the part that refers to how Tieflings are viewed by other races. Expect that if/when people figure out what you are, you might have problems. PCs are 50/50... some will care while others won't. NPCs on the other hand 90% will care and will either run in terror and/or try to kill you or get the nearest representatives of the 'law' to do it for them.
- Given the above point, you've got to think about how you're going to hide your true nature... walking around without a hood or significant head covering for example is a death sentence.
- "Evil" alignment is not something you can start the game with (house rule).
If you're OK with all this, and willing/able to RP whatever comes of it, one way or the other, fine by me.

I would just like to say, if your planning on playing a tiefling do so for the RP, not the race bonuses. Firstly the added stats aren't THAT great and the mod's level progression is slow compared to the OC. Secondly Cormyr is a very militant city and you better believe there will be some smiting going on if your suspect to be "evil". That said playing such a character could be allot of fun, hiding your true nature, being sneaky, finding people you can trust with it, ect. Just make sure you know what your getting into.

Thanks for all the advice everyone. Being as this is my first time playing a MP game, i'll will not be picking a tiefling. I'll let that stay in the OC. I'll probably just pick a human or something easier to RP with. I dont think i have enough experience to pull off a planetouched race within these settings. edited: That link you gave NWN DM.. im not sure what you want us to do there. it says submit a character, but i odnt have one created yet. Should I do that and if so, how? Thanks.

Looks like I'll have the server on-line this weekend for 4-6 hours to download content. This will just be an opportunity to download hak and area files, and generate your PC without worrying about holding up the game. Will PM all involved with the day/time and connection information when I have a better idea of the specifics. Still have room for a combat oriented PC if anyone out there is considering it.
