Heavy RP?

I'd very much like to be a part of a heavy RP group. I don't care much for levelling or hack/slash, though I can tolerate it. Are there any left out there? A PW would be nice, but it needs to be active, and inhabited with players who actually want to RP with me, and can initiate, since I'm a little shy.

If you're interested in a weekly DM'd campaign, I could add you to my group, currently 6. They chat quite a bit amongst themselves, but there's a fair amount of traditional adventuring going on as well.

It's hard to find a PW that has the pure RP experience. I, too, have a weekly game that I have room for another player in -- and though it has the infrastructure to become a PW, it lacks the player base to realistically call it one. I find that, in the best of RP groups, that's the story. Quality w/o numbers.

It's a play off really.

PWs mean you have a lot more options to just hang around and RP, so you get a chance to probe the deeper aspects of your character, whereas in a campaign there is that weekly insistance by DMs that you complete at least some part of the horror they have in store for you.

Campaign means that the other players will need to engage and include you, so you will be certain to have a chance to let your character's personality come to the fore, where on a PW you are at the mercy of player's willingness to engage... and that can be hard to break into.

Personally if you're 'shy' I'd opt for a campaign. To be honest I'd advocate it anyway, as I've had most of my best RP moments in campaigns!

Indicating your game of preference (NWN/NWN2) would help, as would your general availability.

Good luck!

Thanks everyone!

I prefer NWN 1, actually, but I may consider NWN 2.

Karvon and Zelknolf, I'd be very interested in learning more about your campaigns, if there are slots still available for me. I'm on MST in Canada, by the way. I'm available quite a lot at the moment, so I can probably fit my schedule around what is most convenient for your campaigns.

Well, my game runs on Thursday evenings, from 7:00p-11:00p by U.S. central time (so I guess 6:00p-10:00p for you?). Advancement is slow (most active players get 60-100 xp/hr) and requires RP (i.e. the silent grind produces little to no XP, no matter how many goblins you slaughter). The ruleset has seen a lot of changes toward D&D 3.5 -- at least the open source stuff (all of the SRD skills, w/ PnP synergies and use in spells, walk/run speed calculated separately and based on encumberance/armor, SRD prestige classes, SRD spells are slowly being added - I have all of the 0-level spells and all of the 1st level ones for primary casters, bards/rangers get more skill points) and a couple of changes based on world canon or balancing (healing spells are a bit more powerful, paladins are a PrC, armor/shield focus are added, a whole mess of feats for divine champion hopefuls are in) The world is home brewed, with most of the canon on the website. ( http://mundasia.game-server.cc/ )

There is static content on the server, and it is hosted persistently, but we really only tend to see players on a couple times a week outside of the normal weekly sessions. It tends to be wise to bother us on chat if you're keen on playing if it's not a Thursday night; we have an IRC channel on Sorcery.net, #mundasia .

That said, the setting is a fairly violent, chaotic, and gritty place. We do have sessions without any fights, to be sure, but we also have sessions where I should be calling balance checks to keep from slipping on the gore. It's all in-character violence, for what that's worth, and the violence tends to be based on plot. I'm not sure how to call that, in terms of what you're looking for, but I figure some warning is in order.

// edit - totally forgot to say that it's a NWN1 game. Heh.

Well then, feel free to poke people in chat or on the Mundasia forums to get yourself acquanted with stuff - I suggest using chat if you're going to try to get people to play outside of session time. Those days all seem to begin with someone being on chat and asking who wants to play.

I also don't really schedule that game on NWC, being that the particular group tends to ignore game postings until the day of the game (makes the tools not especially useful). But, showing up in the time slot next Thursday should come with ample opportunity to join in with the group.

Well, I was unsure of where your direct connect address was, or what the name of the server was, etc, so I was not able to get on tonight, but I probably have overlooked it, so hopefully I can figure it out for next week.

It, too, is mundasia.game-server.cc (71.239.117.227) -- its display on Gamespy is pretty random. It's on PW Story when it feels like displaying.

And it now occurs to me that the latest version of the "new players" page does not contain this information. So eh... my fault.

I am going to be starting a new heavy-RP campaign in the next week or so. Final work on an advertising post is just underway. If you'd be interested keep an eye out for that and/or just PM me.

If you're still looking for a game, Faramac, I'm going to be starting a Monday night one once I have enough players.

Hi, WSI may have what you're looking for. Most of our players are MORE than happy to sit around the fireplace with you for an evening.

We have several epic dm plots going on at any one time, along with minor fun events that end on one session. Un-DMed events are set up weekly, allowing parties to play through without needing to meet a dm at a specific time.

We're set in FR and Planescape, and require the latest CEP to play. Look for us under role-play on gamespy.

Well met!

Someone recently asked how friendly we are to new players and before I had a chance to respond you can see what the Player Base had to say here.

Here is a collection of pictures.
http://www.talesofthesilvermarches.com/forum/index.php?topic=1173.0

We are an older PW that was completely rebuilt by a few crazy dedicated numbskulls and it seems word of mouth has gone out and we find ourselves with about 5 to 15 people logging in daily. Hopefully the trend stays to the point we soon have 20 people on all the time. Of course that would be ideal though we could handle more than 20 at a time but then would have to seriously upgrade our Staff. I am hoping to stay about a 5 players to 1 ratio on Staff.

We are based in the Forgotten Realms area of the Silver Marches. No…at the moment we do not allow drow as our Underdark is not in and really...not sure if we could handle a bunch of Drizzit clones running around at the moment. But we are working on it and Drow will be allowed soon as well as 60 plus other Sub Races.

Crafting, new spells…so many different fun little bits to see. Hope you take a look at our forums and our Site and let us know what you think. You can pm here or on the forums under the name DM Nojheim.

We are very close to Pen and Paper in rules and use only the CEP as our hak. We have swimming, teleport, deity and domains. We have Timed, Exploration and even Player Awarded XP. Heck...we have too much to list here but here goes.

Our death system was designed by a fellow named aptly Axe Murderer. His system allows it so players when they do expire have some options. They can wait and hopefully their erstwhile partners are carrying their bloated corpses back to a Priest to raise them back to life like Max the Miracle Worker.
Or in the Fugue they may take the portal back which will give them some options from taking random items, some vital xp, or gold. Guess you can buy your way out of hell so to speak, lol. You can even choose whether to go to a temple or to the spot you died.

Then our bleeding system is a bit different. When you’re smacked down by a wolf he might eat you or wander away. While a Zombie would of course dig in like you’re the last burger at Rosanne’s House. But a goblin might grab some of your gold or just maybe you gave that bandit as good as you got and he might hunker down a few feet away and try and heal himself up a bit in case that stubborn adventure gets up.

Basically like everything we have added we have tried for three things to guide us.
1/ Character Development.
2/ Fun and challenging…not just one or the other.
3/ The Player Base asked for it.

In that spirit we have installed and modified the following list of features.

Crafting/Tradeskills
Player Housing
True Forgotten realms Deity System
Spell Storing Devices
Personnel Storage
Hide Level Character List on Start Up
Rest Menu Features
This bears mentioning that lets you do a host of things dependant on your PC plus a lot of neat extras
