This looks interesting as what I got from what I read was more of persistant world type thing than a MMO which is good. I like the coop play part of it and thus will be likely to buy this one unlike most of the other RPGs that have come out since the orignal NWN. Hopefully it will hae some kind of dungeon master setting like NWN and will offer more choices down the road than just what they called the five base classes.

Ughhh. Cryptic. Still, it's better than I feared. It looks worth a closer look.

I will wait for reviews, but it looks interesting. Only a few classes and 10 levels to start, which suggests an add-on model. More information at http://www.massively.com/2010/08/23/massively-exclusive-jack-emmert-speaks-about-neverwinter-and-a/. This makes me nervous:
What type of business model are you going to use with this? We haven't announced that yet -- we've got some kooky plans that I think people will like. |
| On the DM Client:
Can the Forge tools work on the fly, like the old Aurora engine where there's a DM behind the scenes working things? That's an interesting extension of the toolset. We've talked about it, but I'm not sure whether that will make it in or not. |

Yeah, No DM will kill it for me. It's not really D&D without a DM. That has me really worried. If they're going to make it possible for us to create custom instances of the world (that's what it sounds like, anyway) then what's the problem with allowing a DM client?

The problem would be a lack of demand to justify the resources, I'm pretty sure. Sadly, our style of gaming isn't exactly at risk of catching on. Still, this looks like it could be a decent co-op game, with the right group. And if it's successful, there's a chance we'll see more multiplayer RPGs with robust editors. But I'm not holding my breath, particularly since Cryptic has a bad reputation when it comes to post-release support.

Been quite a bit of discussion over on the new bioware social site about this, mostly negative. In short, no one trusts Atari to do a decent job of it, especially as their under time pressure of trying to get this done before a lawsuit with Hasbro over their licensing practices comes to judgment.
