LINKS ARE BACK UP FOR NOW I AM WORKING TO GET MORE PERMANANT HOSTING SOON.

Somehow this link keeps disappearing on me, but some members have expressed interest again so I figured I'd repost it.

Cheers!

THE ULTIMATE NWN PORTRAIT PACK:

Updated-- Here are the new links to The Ultimate NWN Portraits Packs

http://www.avlis.org/portal.php?getpage=portraits

http://www.catara-files.org/downloads/Avlis/files/Custom%20portraits/

You will need a program called WinRAR to decompress files that end in the .rar extension. WinRAR is available at http://download.com.com/3000-2250-10007677.html

Also, you might want to use a download accelerator or a download program, like http://www.getright.com or http://www.flashget.com since the files are fairly large ( 50 - 70 MBs ) about 15 minutes or so to download with a high speed connection. 56ker's should be prepared to catch a good nights sleep while downloading... this ones a lunker

Finding the right image:

Some people have expressed interest in being able to locate the file name of certain images in my portrait packs. ImageWalker is a free program that allows you to view targa files in a thumbnail format (just like the standard viewer for jpegs or gifs in Windows XP). Its really easy to use just run the program and select the folder you would like to view, any targa file in there will show up as an image with the file name right beneath it. So if you want to you can send specific portraits to your freinds, or get rid of one you don't like.

Original Plug

After countless hours of scanning, and equally innumerable cups of coffee, its finally here! For weeks I've been thumbing through well worn art books, scanning the web, and hunting down the sweetest art I could find for inclusion in this pak. Now its all together in one place. A compilation of my favorite portraits, both from the NWN community, and from other masters of the grotesque and fantastic. Organized into 4 rar files for your convenience, this portrait pak should be everything you need to find the perfect image for your PC (or NPC in the case of our hard working module designers.) With over 1000 portraits to choose from, it should be enough to keep you guys busy for years to come. Of course everyone's taste in pics varies, but I'm confident you guys will be pleased with my line up. If you dig 3D designs this probobly isn't the pak for you, since I prefer the painted stuff. There are a couple photoshop pics, only the ones that really impressed me, but they are few and far between. All and all I think its well worth the D/L time for anyone that likes custom portraits. I'm anxious to hear what you guys think of my selections.

I great many thanks to everyone who's been crafting sweet fantasy art over the years, this game wouldn't be the same without you! All pics are the property of their original artists and not to be used for profit... I just *ehem* barrowed and organized them together in one place. If anyone gets super pissed I'll remove their stuff from the pak no problem... but I think everyone can appreciate that this project was undertaken in the spirit of the game. Let me know if you dig it.
-Summer 2002

Instructions for use:

To use these pics as a PC its just a simple matter of removing the contents of the rar file (in this case all the necessary files have been gathered together in a folder) and moving them to the appropriate location. Extract the folder from the rar file you've just downloaded, open it, and copy/paste all the files inside of it to the folder titled "portraits" in your NWN directory. In most cases C:\NeverwinterNights\NWN\portraits.

Using images for NPCs, in the case of mod design, is a slightly more complicated process, but certainly nothing you guys can't handle. The simplest way to approach this task is through the use of a hak pack. For more info on how this can be accomplished check out the following links:

I have used these collections and they really are excellent.

I would recommend fixing your links so that they have the full URL, instead of breaking at the "%" sign.

Updated the links

Thanks again for the praise Lazybones Its cool to see that other people are actually making use of these. Just out of curiosity, I have a few hundred images still on my HD waiting to be formated. If I put together a fifth pack would anyone be interested?

About the links. Truth be told I have no idea why they keep breaking like that. It seems to be unique to the NWC forums. Does anyone know how to get to a technical support page or have a quick work around for the problem?

In the meantime I made a note to copy/paste the links. Thanks again everyone and sorry for the delay.

Jah-din

Cool.

About the links- you probably know this already, but %20 is a common way that servers interpret spaces in file names. Not every server works the same, though. This may be the source of the troubles. Name the files with an underscore_instead. Also best not to mix upper and lower case in names.

I'm not sure if these files are still being hosted anywhere (or if there's much interest in NWN1 portraits anymore.) I think the hosting over at Avlis got pulled some time ago. In any case, if people still would like to get their hands on a copy of my portrait collection feel free to drop me a line

jasonwclark "AT" gmail.com
where "AT" = @

And I'll work out a way to get them to you. Regards

Jah-din

P.S. Is anyone else dissapointed with the Portraits in NWN2? I don't know about you guys, but after a few weeks all my characters/Npcs felt like clones of each other. For anyone who's interested this is how we lost custom 2D portraits in the sequal the first time:
http://nwn2forums.bioware.com/forums/viewtopic.html?topic=406986&forum=95&sp=0

There are rumors about including 2D portrait support in a future patch. So if you come across anything be sure to make some noise

Yes, I'm disappointed with portraits in NWN2. 2D allows for better images than the 3D in-game art, and their way of rendering the portrait makes it look even worse than the 3D in-game animation.
