For Rizzen and Gilaun - Bug Thread Summary
Return To Top

Per Rizzen's Request, I will summarize my "General Forum: Bug Thread" findings here. Rather than 'bundle' them, I'll enter a post for each item. That way you can "quote" and update, as well as delete any post that is no longer current and/or fixed.

I will do the same activity for the threads in the Bug Forum and the Help/Suggestions Forum, as well as the log of notes that I have kept outside of this process. It may be ugly at first, but I think we'll chop this into manageable pieces very quickly.

Keep me in the loop and I will do likewise for you.

Having trouble transferring long post
« on: Jan 16, 2004, 11:18AM»
------------------------------------------------

I was attempting to transfer game summaries from my campaign yersterday off the old Forum onto the new. The first few worked just fine, but I cannot seem to get the next one (and longest one by far) to post at all. It just gives the generic error "We appreciate your business, the admins have been emailed". Same message again today when I tried a second time.
I suspect maybe its a length issue, as the other transfers went off without a hitch. The post in question is titled "Outlandish Tales 3: Present Imperfect", dated Dec 31st, 2003, 1:01pm, and is found on this page: http://forums.neverwinterconnections.com/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.pl?board=menhir;action=display;num=1065621084;start=30

Hoping you can assist with this. I could probably break the post in two, but as this might be a bug I thought you would want to know.

Everything else is looking pretty good at this point! Thanks Rizzen.

Slare: It is a length issue. I am trying to determine the max length (not imposed by me but by the database). I will try and figure out a smoother error once I determine the max length.

I think it was the posts length. I am trying to find out the maximum length a post can be and restricting to that.

Yes, its a length issue. I'm trying to find the maximum length on MSSQL a text field can be, but so far no luck. I'll keep looking though.

MYSQL text field length.
« on: Jan 21, 2004, 12:59PM»
------------------------------------------------

Think this might be what you area looking for ?
TEXT
A BLOB or TEXT column with a maximum length of 65535 (2^16 - 1) characters. See section 13.2.5.1 Silent Column Specification Changes. See section 11.3.2 The BLOB and TEXT Types.

http://www.mysql.com/doc/en/Column_types.html

Might not be advisable to index that field

I cannot imagine the people having this problem have had more than 65535 characters in their documents. I am wondering if instead it is the ODBC Linux driver that is limiting the amount of text that can be sent to the database.... Hmm.

I might just have to impose a lower limit myself (educated guess) and go from there.

------------------------------------------------

The maximum size of a BLOB or TEXT object is determined by its type, but the largest value you can actually transmit between the client and server is determined by the amount of available memory and the size of the communications buffers. You can change the message buffer size (max_allowed_packet), but you must do so on both the server and client ends. See section 7.5.2 Tuning Server Parameters.

No, there is no way. However, I am working on a few interesting things I think you might like.

I am finally creating a "master campaign manager" that allows you to keep a list of invited people etc and move them to and from a game. So when moved to a game they are auto invited back etc. You will also be able to manage your own forum such as adding moderators and deciding who can and cannot read the forum/threads.

WAS THIS IMPLEMENTED?
I also want to make it so you can mark threads that will automatically appear in the game message board without having to move them...

I am not sure you know this or not, however, you can "move" threads between any of your own forums. So if you have an ongoing thread for a specific campaign, you can "move" it to a game page... then move it back off to your campaign forum.

Does that help? Sorry there is no way to turn of the game message boards right now.

Thanks. BTW, I tried that archiving program you recommended, unfortunately I cannot get it to operate properly (I get an error saying that no data is transferred). Oh well.

Redirect - but different
« on: Jan 18, 2004, 5:57PM»
------------------------------------------------

Rizzen,

I noticed this while migrating our Roleplay Thread (Birthright of the North). When I modify a post on Page One and click Submit, I get redirected to Page Two of the thread.

It's not a big deal, but as long as we're tracking issues, I thought I'd mention it.

Thanks! - J'Dai

JD UPDATE: Now when I edit a post, I am redirected to the LAST page of the thread. I am getting dizzy!

Not sure if this is a bug, but it looks like one
« on: Jan 19, 2004, 4:14PM»
------------------------------------------------

Hi Rizzen,

Yeah, software bugs are like art sometimes.

Anyhow, I am in a game with Ghool (S1-Tomb of Horrors). When I look at the NEW forums, it correctly displays the last post by Skeeneyman at 7:45 AM today. When I look at the game site, the 'box' with the NEW forum info shows that Phelonious had the last post with the same date and time. If you look at the thread, there is nothing from Phelonious.

SUMMARY:

If the last post is deleted, the Last Post "column" on the summary page does not update. It should display the previous last post rather than referencing a post that is no longer there.

GMT Time - Post Edit Times, "Today" Definition

Not sure if this a bug, or working as designed:

On the forum summary page(s) I see the last updated day/time (Friday Jan 16, etc). I am seeing a few marked as Today from 7:21pm yesterday. Is "today" a 24 hr window? I keep catching myself going to look at those threads and going "wait, that was last night... already read it!"

What could be happening is that your are logged out and you are seeing the GMT times. Its very easy with our currently screwed up cluster to be logged out and not know it.

I'm looking at the summary list and everything looks correct for me at the moment, but I'll watch for it.

Just double checked, I am logged in. Right now, the only forum that shows as having a Today topic for me is a post to the Lazybones forum, at 6:54pm. All the other threads are marked as Thursday. Coincidentally, I'm CST, so 6pm my time == 12am GMT.

Likewise, the threads from Wednesday that showed up earlier today as being Today threads were posted after 6pm yesterday.

Is it possible that Today calculations are being done against GMT time, not local time?

Dunno if this has been pointed out yet or not. But go to the Builders Discussion thread. You will see a post listed as 'today 9:11 PM' and a post that was JUST posted is stamped as 'today 12:54 PM' I suspect that the 'today 9:11 PM' is actually yesterday at 9:11 PM.

Yup, I posted somewhere about that. Based on just when yesterday something counts as being today -- I'm pretty sure the today is being determined off GMT time, not local time.

You can confirm that by looking at posts yesterday, and seeing which hours are called Thursday, and which are called 'today'. I bet the crossover hour is GMT 0.

Edit: *laughs* To confirm this further, when I edited a bolding problem on this post, I saw that it said "Last Edit: today at 7:31pm", but the post date is 1:31pm. So the edit commentary is also on GMT time.

Weird bug (if it is that): I just examined the "10 most recent posts" using the link at the very bottom of the forum page and this particular thread was listed as having pages: 1, 21, 41, and 61. Clicking on page "61" brought me to page 4.

When I open it normally from the tree, the pages 1,2,3,4 are depicted normally.

I've been debating that. By doing that it adds more queries to the page thus slowing it down. However, I might be able to figure something out.

Hi Rizzen!

Hope the new job is going well!

Now that we are 'bumped' to multiple pages for the forum: General Discussion(Moderators: Rizzen,Shinji,Gilaun)

The page numbering looks 'off'. If I can recreate this in text, it looks like:

Pages: 1 2______

Take a look. If you don't see it, I'll practice my screen shot skills and grab a still for ya!

Related Page Display Bug
« on: Feb 8, 2004, 8:06AM»

Now I've noticed that the number at the TOP of that page looks as described above, but the bottom displays:

Pages: 1

If it is supposed to display all pages, it's missing Page 2. If it's supposed to just name the page you are viewing, there's a typos (s/b Page: ).

Nit-picky, I know, but I'd hate to have you think that I ever stop looking. *grins*

Page Calculation Difference?
« on: Feb 19, 2004, 5:39PM»
------------------------------------------------

Hi Rizzen and Gilaun,

I noticed something in the RolePlay Forum, though I suspect it's a global-variety bug. Our thread for the "Chronicles of the Four"

http://www.neverwinterconnections.com/forums/index.cfm/fuseaction/viewmessages/id/129/guildid/0.htm

has two pages of content, but the list/link on the RolePlay Forum does not indicate the second page.

I suspect it's related to a synch or some such. It's certainly not a critical bug, but something I noticed nonetheless.

I hope your new job is going well!! - J'Dai

Game Threads - Initiated in Forums v. Game Page
« on: Mar 1, 2004, 4:25PM»
------------------------------------------------

(I know there is a post on this - from Elbast, I believe - and I cannot track it down.)

EDIT: http://www.neverwinterconnections.com/forums/index.cfm/fuseaction/viewmessages/id/2089/guildid/0.htm

All the Game threads show up in the Forums, but I cannot see all the threads on the Game Page itself. Specifically, the one that is missing was created from the Forums, rather than from the Game Page.

This is the first time I have 'seen' this problem, though I know others have noted it.

Re: the above -- as the DM/campaign manager, if I post a new topic in a game forum directly (i.e. using the link on the forums page), nobody seems to be able to see it but me. If I post it from the game page, it works fine.
