NWCon 4: 2 Games, Infinite Possibilities
NWCon 4 Dates: Friday-Saturday-Sunday Sep 26, 27, 28
What is it?: NWCon4 is the fourth online convention for Neverwinter Nights players, now including Neverwinter Nights 2. The con includes in-game and chat-based seminars where experts will share their NWN knowledge on DMing, gaming, building, and more. And, of course, there are games. Lots of Games! New players and experts alike are welcome to join in and share the fun.
IRC Seminars: Join an IRC (chat-based) seminar to learn about NWN and NWC. All IRC panels will be scheduled using the NWC scheduling system. Check the right side of this screen for IRC panels. Important: You do not have to sign up for IRC panels to attend. irc.nwn2source.net or chat.neverwinterconnections.com
In-Game Seminars: Join an in-game classroom to learn about numerous aspects of Neverwinter Nights 1&2 from expert panels. In-game seminars are great, because you actually get to try stuff on the fly and see how it works in-game. Check the right side of this screen for scheduled seminars. Important: You do have to sign-up for the in-game seminars and demonstrations due to the limitations of the engine.
NWCon Encourages Open Gaming: Although we have arranged for the excellent seminars and panels, we do not dictate the gaming schedule for NWCon4. As a DM or host, we encourage you to schedule as many games as you want during NWCon4. Check the right side of this screen for games that have already been scheduled. Remember, sleep is for the dead!
NWCon Game Scheduling Rules: 1. All NWCon4 games must be scheduled thru the Neverwinter Connections games scheduler. 2. All NWCon4 games must be Open or Application. Invite-only games are not not compatable with the purpose of NWCon. 3. Please use the following format for the name of your event: NWCon 4 - (version) - (type) - (event title). So a sample entry: NWCon 4 - NWN1 - Contest - The Pillaging of Waycrest. This naming convention allows us to show all NWCon4 games here on our web site. We also feed it to NWVault and other places. 4. All NWCon games should be 'rated PG' unless they are clearly labeled as 'mature subject matter'.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Is there a central meeting place to talk about NWCon or NWN in general?
A: Many NWC regulars chat via Internet Relay Chat (IRC). You can get into NWC’s main IRC channel by going use the Java client on this page. A NWC member, Steck, has even created a custom IRC client that logs you right into Neverwinter Connections’s main chat channel. If you’re going to chat at all, we highly recommend you download it here. The #nwcon channel will be the main channel for discussions on NWCon, and #nwconnections is the main Neverwinter Connections channel.
Q: I want to get involved and play some cool games, but I am totally confused about all of this. What do I do?
A: The New Players Forum has lots of good Q&A already posted, and helpful site members reply very quickly to new posts. Try the NWC FAQ for basic information about Neverwinter Connections in general. If you know how to get onto NWC’s IRC channel (see above), hop on and start asking questions!
Q: Great! So how do I sign up for something during NWCon?
A: All registrations for panels, games, and in-game seminars will be conducted through Neverwinter Connections (NWC). The full list of these is on the right-hand side of this screen. If you are not a member of the NWC site, you will need to become a member (free) in order to register for games.
Q: What is the difference between an Open game, an Application game, and a Invite-only game?
A: 'Open' games are first-come, first-served. 'Application' games require you to respond to a question from the game host, typically about what type of PC you plan to play. The host then chooses which applications to accept. (Please be sure to read the game information to ensure that your application fits the game.) Invite-only games require the host to send invites to select players. This is often used in pre-existing campaigns here at NWC. In the spirit of open gaming, NWCon will only use Open and Application games.
Q: Do you still need DMs?
A: Yes, we need DMs for many game types. There is detailed information above about or scheduling requirements, as well as our Featured (or suggested) modules to run. If you have questions, please post here.
Q: How do I schedule a game?
A: First, you must have a NWC account. Next, make sure that your time zone is set correctly in your NWC profile. Since NWCon will happen right after the clocks 'spring forward' for Summertime, please be sure to check this! Then go to this page and follow the directions. Be sure to begin the name of your game with 'NWCon' or your game will not display on the NWCon schedule! All NWCon games must be Application or Open.
Q: I want to join the Panel Discussions, but I don’t know what IRC is?
A: IRC stands for 'Internet Relay Chat,' an internet chat service. To use IRC, get an IRC client software ( mirc, xchat, ircle for Mac) and follow the log-on instructions included in the panel sign-up. A NWC member has even created a custom client that logs you right into Neverwinter Connections’s main chat channel. Download it here.
Q: Is this only DMed events?
A: no , builders , scripters are welcome to showcase their talents and works also. so as a player you get the chance to experience many new awesome things to the NWN1&2 game.
