Nona

Nona Su''''''''yom (pronounced "Sue-ee-ahm," although most humans seem to always blur the last two syllables into one) is a cleric. This is a surprise to most people who regard him initially, and perceive a half-elf of rogue training. The fact of the matter is that Nona spent his teenage years in the learning halls of a temple to Corellon Larethian. Such was at the uncompromising command of his elven father DeSavante Su''''''''yon. Nona never seemed to truly grasp the teachings of the clerics of Corellon Larethian. Early on, he was frequently caught gazing off as the clerics lectured. As time went on, he engaged the clerics in vigorous debate about the teachings and virtues of Corellon Larethian. Needless to say, this did not endear him to his instructors.

As the years passed, Nona''''''''s predispositions became increasingly "rogue-ish." He was no thief, mind you. Nor was he even one to slink into the shadows (although he did find himself locked out of his dorm room on several occasions, thereby leading to the consequent development of a skill of Shadow.

When Nona turned 17, the physical instructor of his class interpreted Nona''''''''s rogue traits as an aspect worth honing, and he did so. For the next two years, Nona trained under Asraeus Tarn, who had achieved some fame for applying the traits of the rogue to the service of Corellon Larethian.

It was also Asraeus who introduced Nona to the great sage of Corellon Larethian, Errath T''''''''Mallian. That was the turning point in Nona''''''''s life. At that point, Nona was actually beginning to reject the philosophical teachings he had been exposed to these past years. He saw his instructors as set in their ways, unwilling to either see a different perspective, or even truly argue for the truth of their own beliefs. Nona had come to believe that his teachings had been no more than indoctrinization.

Errath T''''''''Mallian told Nona that he interpreted Nona''''''''s own questions about the faith he was being taught as a worthy manifestation of the very element of chaos that Corellon Larethian represents.

Over the course of several conversations of this nature, Nona began to apply the words that Errath T''''''''Mallian was speaking to his own thoughts, and he found that they fit.

Nona''''''''s conversations with Errath T''''''''Mallian became more and more frequent, and it eventually became routine for the two to take long walks though the forest and hills as they talked. It was one of those very walks that became the final single factor to define who Nona now is. As they walked, a flash storm took them by surprise. Within mere moments, the sky went from sunny and bright to turbulent, angry. A bolt of lightning struck near Nona''''''''s feet, and he was left in awe. Even as the rain continued to pummel down, Nona turned to his mentor and asked how Corellon Larethian could harness true power if he could not harness *this* power--the power of lightning. Errath laughed, and told Nona that the simple fact that Corellon Larethian was not commonly associated with lightning certainly did not mean that such power was foreign to him.

And such defines the half-elf that is Nona, who now ventures into the world. The common eye will perceive his training as that of a rogue, and acknowledge him as thus. But his faith, albeit a critical one, in Corellon Larethian, is as strong as any clerics, and indeed it is that calling that is now his very passion. Specifically, he brings to the faith of Corellon Larethian the power of the sky, which Nona sees as the means to administer the virtues of Good that his god edifies.
