Liam Younger
Liam Younger, Human Cleric of Lathander
One would think being born into a life of priviledge to a long-established merchant family would cause a child to grow up selfish and cold, uncaring and cruel. They''d be right if there were speaking of any of the other 4 children of Greta and Mero Younger except for Liam. Bern, the eldest ran rampant, a petty tyrant during Liam''s youth. Fern, the only girl was father''s favorite, a fact never hidden. And poor William, spoiled only as yougest children are couldn''t keep from being spoiled. But Liam... Liam fell through the cracks, or rather rose above the tracherous trapping of priviledge. A comtemplative and suprisingly happy child Liam didn''t mind being passed over and ignored. There was something, something about himself that he knew without knowing that kept his head high and his smile broad even when his brother Bern''s rule went unchecked by parents too busy trying to worm their way in true noble status. Left to his own devices, Liam wandered about the quarter, speaking with the other merchants and the stall owners and all the people passing through whether they be of status or not. Seldom did he return with a coin in his pocket. Too many others in need and he without any..well almost. A longing was growing within him, something he knew he could not speak to his family about. Something he could not explain to even himself. With the temple district so close to home, only across the west bridge, Liam found himself spending more and more time talking with the priests and clerics. It was inevitable that one day, while he was talking theory with a church elder he was foudn out. His father, delivering a ream of fine paper for the temple walked in and saw his son in animated discussion with the old preist. Liam saw his father and cringed like a dog caught up on the table. His father narrowed his eyes and chewed hsi lip for a long moment before smiling a smile he usually saved for a deal he''d come out on top of. That very week, Liam was inducted as an acolyte in the service of Lathander. And Mero and Greta and all the other Youngers were, with the added prestige of having a cleric-to-be in the family climbed another rung in high society. Liam, of course did not begrudge his family''s reasoning, for he knew such contentment in the order. He belonged here and put all his heart into his studies, striving to be the best that he could. Nothing was neglected, not the prayers, nor the teachings, nor the arms and armor of faith. Recently he has graduated from acolyte to Cleric and has been sent out on his Servitude, his time of service to the world at large. Now and again he writes to his family, though rare is the reply. He is happy leaving his fate in Lathander''s hands and in the training he has recieved.
