Lanaar has lived a cowled Childhood, Not only from the painful sunlight but also from the taunts, jeers and frequent malicious attacks from the villagers of Gend, his home. Raised by Malaki, a retired warrior himself and a lot wiser and less bigotted than his neighbours. Malaki has told Lanaar that he owed a great debt to his mother, and had vowed to raise him away from the corruption and dishonour of his heritage. Since adolescence set in, however, Lanaar has tried hard to subdue the yearning desire to discover the truth of his ancestry, and to control the fire that burns within.
