Norien is the daughter of a high-ranking priest of Lathander in Cormyr. She inherited the best of both her parents: her human father's strong will and her elven mother's compassion and kindness- as well as her gift of sorcery.
Being raised within the austere home of a priest, she did as many children in her position do- she rebelled in her adolescent years. Her stunning beauty attracted many young lads, and one in particular led her astray from her father's faith. The paths she was choosing seemed destined to lead her into an empty life.
Until one day when she heard a street prophet proclaiming the goodness and kindness of Ilmater: the Crying God. Her heart was pierced by this message of compassion and self-sacrifice, and she gave her heart and soul to the god of suffering and kindness.
Much to her father's chagrin, she joined the Temple of Ilmater in Arabel. She thought that her repentance and new-found devotion would please her father, but he could not accept her fealty to a god other than Lathander. The relationship, despite her mothers peacemaking efforts, remains strained.
There is a dichotomy within Norien. The desire of her soul is to serve her god as a healer, giving all she has to the poor and needy. But the magical gift that she was born with pulls at her heart as well. The thrill that she feels when she releases that gift fascinates her, even as it makes her feel guilty. She struggles with whether or not this gift is appropriate to be used in Ilmater's service.
Maybe one day the struggles within Norien will come to peace. Will the relationship with her father be resolved? Will she find a way to serve her god & the needy without denying the gifts she has been given? Can a young woman of such beauty and talent embrace the life of humility that Ilmater calls her to? These questions remain for now unanswered...
