Staunton Wilkes is the third son of a minor baron. As was tradition, he was handed over to the church to be a trained as a member of the clergy at the age of 10. As the third son, he stands to inherit nothing, so it is both an opportunity for him to find his place in the world and helps keep his family on good terms with the church. Although it took a bit of adjustment for him, he gradually grew to like the priestly life. He enjoys the contemplative life and also likes the opportunity to help people in need.
