A follower of Nerull, God of Death, Thrond took up the mantle of Gloombringer after his wife and children were brutally slaughtered in a hobgoblin raid upon his village. Nerull reached out to Thrond that night amidst the sour stench of his family's burning flesh, animating the corspe of his young son-He promised Thrond the power to exact revenge upon the hobgoblin chief behind the raid but at the cost of Thrond's utter servitude as Nerull's minion. With nothing more to live for and tears running down Thrond's soot covered face, he gladly accepted the dark god's offer, pledging his eternal loyalty. With those words, Thrond grew in stature, his skin took on a ashen hue and his eyes seemed to brim with the promise of power. Bestowed with unholy might, Thrond went out that night and slew the hobgoblin raiding party to the last man, relishing in their cries for mercy. Soonafter, he buried his family and amidst the fightened stares of the other villagers who hardly recognized Thrond in his changed state, left to go find others of his order to follow his god's dictates.....
