Zandil of the Tarb Clan was special. His loving parents knew; the region's clergy of Garl Glittergold knew. Whereas arcane magic is a long, difficult field of study for most young gnomes, little Zandil would duplicate the effects of complex spells with no knowledge of the process. Yet, it would be best for the boy if he grew up believing he was a normal, healthy gnome. He would train in illusions and spellcraft like the rest of the class; he would adapt his father's trade in gemcutting; his naturally magnetic personality would make him well-liked despite the curious differences from his peers. Yes, they all agreed, he must discover who he is on his own. Soon, his questions about himself will lead him far from home. And those who knew would let the gifted young Zandil go, with a bid of Garl Glittergold's blessings.
