The child of a pair of alliance medical scientists, William's mind was not that of research but more of using the knowledge others had discovered to immediate use. However the war proved to be a tough time for him - the independents were unable to care for the wounded as well as the Alliance and certain events in war changed his mindset to a sympathiser - so much so that he began smuggling medical supplies to their wounded. Not soon after, he left to join the independents with a completely new outlook on the political situations between the two factions. He arrived eager to make himself busy on a welcoming Firefly Transport ship that needed his services and to take on all the challenges that would come with his new choice.
