Contessa is the only child of Lord Marcus D’urberville, a retired paladin of significant renown, and heiress to the D’urberville estate in the heart of Endorr. She is known widely among her sphere for her fiery temperament and for her fierce rejections of proper suitors.
Though some still remember Marcus D'urberville as a legendary knight in the service of Pallas and protector of the people, most know him as a weathly concieted landowner. During his adventuring days (some many decades ago) Marcus had known various epithets, such as "Hand of righteousness," "Lion's blood," and "Red-dragon slayer," though years of diplomatical responsibility and political service have changed Marcus into greedy and uncaring Lord; the titles he once held have since faded into myths and bard's tales.
Recent rumors concerning Contessa's disappearance and involving a scandalous love affair with a notorious highwayman have seriously injured Marcus's reputation, and the retired paladin is offering a substantial reward for the safe return of his daughter without further injury to his repute.
There are missing posters nailed up thoughout the countryside:
"Contessa D'urberville, daughter of Lord Marcus D'urberville of Endorr, has been kidnapped. Persons providing any information leading to the safe return of Contessa D'urberville to her father's side or to the conviction of those who were involved in her disappearance will be rewarded a sum of
Fifty-thousand Endorrian crowns.
Persons who have seen Contessa D'urberville or with any pertinant information should send word immediately to the temple of Pallas in Endorr."
