By the time he finishes performing his introduction of himself, your eyes may be ready to glaze over and roll back in your head.
“Zig Freendenroy, at your service” he begins the novella with a trill … and, time and timing permitted, goes into the synopsis of his beginnings, his growing up in the Faerun, and will go on to brag of his travels that have brought him to the here and now. Past that, he is more than happy to continue speaking, but never before have your heard so much talk with so little to hear, though the occasional point of interest might blur by you in the barrage.
Dressed in somewhat flamboyant garb, his apparel and accouterments do appear as though they have seen their better days go by them. He is of meager build and no obvious strength, but moves with a grace and posture that exudes confidence. Slim with slender features and even slightly tapered ears, he professes himself to be a wayward performer of some various skills, and something of a jack of all trades. As you listen to him drone on, you realize that Zig announces his near deliberate ignorance of others with authority. While he might at first seem of upper class or noble descent, it soon becomes clear he’s spent some of his days among a lesser element, and is somewhat streetwise. If you can manage to sift through the theory and conjecture of his meandering about himself so soon after meeting him, you are able to somehow discern that he does, at least, seem to be of some skill, knowledge, and there is no denying that he has a certain ambition. He professes proficiency with a plethora of paraphernalia… everything from a plectrum to playing cards to parlor tricks, and even claims to be handy with a weapon or two. Indeed it seems he could go on talking about himself for hours.
Zig does not mind obviously, rather prefers, being the center of attention. While his social methods are obvious, there’s no denying his charisma and effect he has on others. When it suits his purposes, he cleverly knows how to stroke an ego, or even work a crowd. Perhaps to the more savvy, he might seem a bit insincere, flippant, or even ignorant at times, but his persuasive and persistent nature can not be ignored, and the grey area between fact or fiction does at times prove daunting to some and their doubts.
