Perciles The Anointed
"I come not to bring peace: I bring the sword and it's honesty. Let me be the hand of the redeemer and I will caress the weak and the deceiver alike, giving retribution in kind as it is written upon my eyes." Last remaining Knight of the order of the crying pilgrim. The order has until lately, remained quite secretive in it's rituals and purpose. The order began with a mundane enough start. A group of cavaliers were travelling across the countryside on the Sword coast, contemplating their next move as the lord that they served had disbanded his military and spread his territory to his court members, and slighted his loyal cavalier guard.
The group of knights encountered a priest falling and stumbling in the woods near the coast and rushed to his aid. The knights asked what happened and the dying priest could only murmur "the Pilgrim's are lost, the last is crying..." and faded into oblivion. The knights looked to the forest and saw a weeping woman, or her glowing visage and rode to her. Before they reached her a portal opened and the woman was yanked inside. The knights met the portal and the charge of the portal closing threw them from their horses and they all heard the voice of the crying Pilgrim. "It is my rescue that will free you and continue...we can never be seen..i have not made it home." The sight and haunting voices burned it self into the minds of the warriors and so moved them, they sought out a monestary and gave the story to be documented by the monks and even started a temple. Allthough the temples life was short lived. Soon the temple and the new order of the crying pilgrim grew, and their purpose was to solve the mystery of the crying pilgrim. Soon they travelled all the sword coast to search for anything but found nothing. Until, one day they passed into a clearing near Luskan, and they saw a priest fall into the clearing. Again rushing to aid the priest, the knights gathered around him and the priest spoke the same chilling words as the one before. Again the image of the pilgrim was seen, this time when the knights rode towards the portal, all but one was taken disapearing without the trace, with only the sound of a crying girl left behind. The final knight moved on and told his story and again gathered a group of fair knights to find solve the mystery. And every year, on the anniversary of the first pilgrims sighting, the knights encounter a new priest, and the same girl...and only one remains behind. Still the knights wander and seek to solve the mystery, that is now deepened bye the loss of their brothers in arms and cause. After Ten years of the Ritual, only Perciles remains of this years order. Seeking the wisdom of the saints, and the might of the gods to free his brethren and solve the mystery of the crying pilgrim and feverishly seeks any artifact or weapon that will aid him in his cause. Perciles is bound by duty and will not let evil cross his path un punished. Some sages that have heard his story have discussed how a God would allow perciles to be so single minded and, from the appearance, the god that would allow it's followers to be swallowed and sacrificed must surely be evil, if not on the border of it. While others say the will and mind of a god can never be understood, or contested. All of this adds to the intrigue of how Perciles maintains his Paladin status, in teh face of his quest.
