When the war with the Ironlord came, General Kira Fertou was there, leading dwarves in defense of their homeland, rallying her warriors with common sense cheer, then leading them into battle with herself at the lead.
Though Kira is a dwarven champion, sworn to protect dwarven lands, gods and souls, her faith has been shaken by the brutality of war. Kira suffered grievous wounds on the battlefield, nearly dying in a massacre of her troops in which dwarves she loved like brothers and sisters sacrificed themselves to defend her.
The following months are a jumble of disconnected impressions to her: glimpses and images of care and flight as she regained her senses.
In time, her body healed, but her mind did not. She recalls the war only in brief glimpses. The recent past is lost to her.
She takes comfort in ritual, training, and discipline. It gives order and structure to a life in which the recent past is a void.
Duty calls on this mission, but for Kira, it is also personal, a way to make her and her warriors' losses meaningful, to give sense to tragedy that escapes words.
