Astra Keline

Astra was born of Lathine and, due to her parents wishes, she followed in their footsteps to become a Ranger of the North. She wanted nothing more than to make them both proud parents, and thus strove to do her best at everything she was taught. She learned well, listened well and had no time for games or folly. When her father and mother went on a scouting party which never returned, Astra left Lathine to search the Dark Forest.... but never found sight nor trace of either of her parents or the rest of the scouts. The Rangers declared them dead, but Astra disagreed. She claimed that, if murdered, the bodies would still be in the forest. Why would humans move the corpses? It seemed illogical. Instead, she summised that the entire scouting party had been captured as spies and demanded the opportunity for a rescue mission....... The rangers denied her request. This is why Astra left to live in the forest. She felt as though her lone vigil was somehow doing what her parents would have been proud of.... and she has never given up hope. When the Fingarians invaded the brownie camp, Astra fought like a demon to save as manyt as she could, but was ordered by the brownie chief to defend the grove. Reluctantly, she accepted his gift of a necklace (promising to use it upon any fingaian who tried entering the grove) and went to defend what she was instructed. The brownies died that day, and to Astras dismay she has blamed herself for their deaths. If she had not listened to the brownie chief, then some may have survived. She had also sent an animal messenger to lathine requesting reinforcements which never arrived.... furthering her disregard for the Rangers of the north and their apparant inability to make quick decisions. And so she remained in the Dark Forest for many years, wallowing in her own self-pity and self-loathing. Blaming herself for her mistakes, and believeing that somewhere in Fingar her parents were still alive...possibly being tortured for information. When Broken tree summoned her and told her to lead the group of inexperienced elves on what seemed like an impossible mission, she silently vowed not to let a single one fall in vain. She also saw it as an opportunity to rescue her parents.

Personality Astra is blunt and serious. She has no time for childish behaviour. The situation between Lathine and Fingar is dire, and she cannot allow herself to be sidetracked or distracted from the impending danger of a full scale attack. To watch the elves fighting and bickering, she feels as though she has been given children to watch over and thus she tries to teach them in her own way. Heavily critical of their misdemeanours and inexperience, she hopes to snap them into the reality of their situation and... much like a teacher... she thinks she has discovered the 'star pupils' and the 'troublesome pupils', but she refuses to treat them differently as she disregards having favorites. Her recent fall into alcohol was due to the hatred she recieved from her 'pupils'. She is unable to understand why they apparantly hate her so much when, in her mind, she is doing her best to shape them into a succesful fighting force. She also took it badly when the necklace broke, which would have been apparant to all who saw. She believed she could use the amulet to rescue her parents, but instead used it to rescue Luna and the elves. She regrets that decision and hates herself because she feels guilty about her regret.

Knowledge Astra has been alone in the forest for many years, and has gained knowledge of the Fingarian habits, scout routes, business dealings etc... She has also witnessed the massing goblin, orc and giant armies, and she fears that the Fingarians may use those armies against Lathine.... only stepping in after the elves are defeated and thus being able to defeat a weakened goblin/orc/giant army and claiming ultimate victory.

Religion Astra does not follow Daoine or any of the elven god/goddesses. She has grown an affinity with a strange entity known as 'the Spirit of the Forest'. She claims this entity is within every living and non-living thing. Every tree, every leaf and every stone. Within the rivers and the air, the birds, the insects and animals. maybe she has been alone too long in the forest and is imagining all this, but her healing magic certainly comes from somewhere

Astras Parents

Sola Keline Father:- Sola Keline was a great sorceror and ranger, and was high-ranking in the Rangers of the North. Amongst others, he was partially responsible for the creation and maintenance of the Lathine Cloak (the magical barrier which hides Lathine from the rest of the world). He was famous for having a stubborn temper and an arrogant nature, which he seemed to pass down to his daughter Astra. Sola was not the kind of father to give unwarranted praise to his daughter and was frequently seen to rebuke her harshly if she made a mistake.

Hope Keline Mother:- Hope Keline was a moderately powerful druid and an adequate scout. Although not high-ranking in the Rangers of the North, she frequently recieved special attention due to her husbands position. Her legacy to her daughter was the passing on of knowledge of the existance of 'the spirit of the woods', an entity which is possibly merely a myth. Hope was a beautiful elf but prone to moodiness and moments of depression if kept away from her beloved forests. She doted upon her daughter, sometimes spoiling her, but shared her husbands views that praise was not given lightly.

Both Sola & Hope were assumed murdered by Fingarians during a routine scouting mission, along with their entire scouting party. No corpses were ever found.
