Romanti was born into a life of crime. from day one, Romanti watched the actions of those he respected most take advantage of the system and take what they needed – and sometimes taking more than their share. First impressions last a lifetime, so very true, and as a child, he was trained with the skills his family felt he needed to survive in such a barbaric world, and was taught to take what he could get. Romanti conscious made this feel wrong, but he knew nothing more than what he was trained to be since childhood.
In early adolescence, his parents perished in a harsh winter blizzard, this tragedy scarred Romanti for life, and with nowhere to call home, him and his brothers were cast out into the unforgiving city. Cold and hungry, they lurked in the shadows, snatching occasional fruit from the markets and a coin or two from naïve pockets.
On fateful evening, as the sun was setting on the horizon in a magnificent array of yellows and reds, Romanti found an easy pick, and began the hunt. He followed the noble through the streets, remaining quiet and staying just out of eyesight. Then came the fateful moment, but as he used his slight of hand, a firm grasp on his arm yanked him into a nearby alley. It was a tall gent, who in turn revealed that he was part of the local guild. Romanti followed the man to a secluded side of the town, and there the guild gave him an ultimatum – join them or be cast out into the wild. What choice did he have?
So he stuck with them, following the established rules and honing his skills as a thief. Trying his best, he survived and flourished, with a family like he had never known. He fit in well, and made friends quickly.
Then, one day, he had that feeling deep in his gut, as he found that the guild he now called home was doing something he knew was immoral - taking more than their share, exploiting the weary and taking advantage of the unaware. Romanti didn’t approve, he was taught to take only what was needed, not what one wanted on a whim. He had the skills, but could not be part of such trickery. Romanti confronted the guild council, said that he could not live under their care with such wrong doings going on, and was told that if he leaves, he can never come back. But he had no choice, and headed out into the unknown outside of the city.
