Sydney
Born of an unknown father from a brothel woman, Sydney has grown up working in the open markets of the city, bearing harship as a child, never learning to read and write. Until she was 13, everything was pointing to the fact that she will finish like either a brothel girl too, or concubine to some powerful water merchant. But one night changed her life. She was coming to the shaks not far from the brothel where her mother and her were living, and some drunk people were there, having followed her mother : Sydney hid and saw that the junkies had raped and killed her, beating her to death. Terrorized, Sydney watched as they put fire to the shacks and left running and laughing. Sydney had not much time, but memorized all the faces of the drunkards, some sorts of mercenaries, and other apparently some sons or servants of merchants wanting fun for free. The young teen saved what she could from the shack, including a good but rusted butcher's knife her mother was keeping under a piece of wood in the back of the shack, and some capsules for later and her daughter. It is a long tale to tell how Sydney caught with them and killed them all, because it took many years of long chase across the Wastelands, of survival and near-death situations. She even met friends, and lovers, who died, but who taught her how to use most weapons and to fight.
Ten years later, she is coming back to the Hub for telling the spirit of her mother that she took revenge on her murderers. Now Sydney is a grown woman with a sense of justice done, bearing the scars of battle and the memories of violent and terrible events marking her body for life. About five feet five inches in height, Sydney has a dark square face where two green eyes are shining with challenge and pride, and with a little crazyness too. Her lips are a little twisted by a scar crossing her chin to the left cheek, and sometimes she limps when she is very tired, her leg never recovered fully from a fracture. She is never without a weapon, at least a knife, to fend off morons and drunkards. She has alcohol in horror, and never drinks it if she is not obligated. Now, Sydney has come back to the Hub and feels her soul is at rest. She vaguely feels a certain emptiness, too, even if she knows that some friends of the people she killed will surely come one day and slit her throat in her sleep...
