Selene Clarkson

Selene had a difficult childhood. Her parents were very poor and they did not want to have a child. However, they could not afford to have a priest end the pregnancy safely. For the first few years of her life, Selene knew only pain and sadness. Her father would sometimes beat her and complain about how worthless she was. Her mother would yell at her wishing Selene had never been born. Still, they provided for her to avoid being arrested. To this day, Selene believes that the laws of the land were the only thing safeguarding her life from malnourishment.

When she was seven, Selene found the courage to yell back at her parents. Her father tossed her out of their house telling her to spend the night out there. He was expecting her to sit in front of the door and beg to be let back in the next morning. Selene left them both and became a street urchin of her own free will.

Selene spent three years on the streets, stealing to survive. She might have continued that life if she hadn't tried to steal from a traveling female bard with a good eye named Alexia. Alexia followed Selene back to her box of a home in an alleyway and cornered her. The bard woman offered to take care of her if she was willing to follow. Alexia didn't even care about the gold Selene stole from her and began to walk away. Selene was drawn by her charm.

Alexia and Selene traveled together for six years. Although Selene loved watching Alexia perform, she never managed to develop the skill needed to imitate such feats. Still, she managed to help Alexia in other ways. Since Alexia provided for her, Selene was more than willing to follow Alexia's request to give up stealing. Selene's favorite stories were about the gods and she seemed drawn to the tales of Sharess, Tymora and Sune.

The two of them grew very close but that was the problem. Alexia always viewed Selene like the little sister she never had. Selene loved Alexia deeply and wanted to be lovers. When the pair was celebrating Selene's sixteenth birthday, Selene had hinted that she was going to steal her gift from Alexia before she could give it. Alexia held onto the wooden flute concealed in her robes and dared Selene to try. Selene then kissed Alexia. When Alexia pulled away roughly and asked what Selene was doing, Selene felt truly hurt. She proclaimed her love for Alexia. Alexia tried her best to let Selene down gently but Selene was just more devastated by the rejection. She ran out of the inn they were staying at and into the streets ignoring Alexia's frantic cries for her to come back.

Selene wandered the streets by herself thinking about her life. She came to the conclusion that she really did not know what love is. That she was too driven by her passions to find it. She made a decision that night. She would follow her passions, satisfying them until she could finally determine the true meaning of love for herself. She headed to the temple district and became an acolyte for Sharess hoping that a goddess of passions could help her with her personal quest. It hadn't taken Alexia too long to find Selene again. However, Alexia was hesitant to reveal her presence to Selene. She didn't want to cause the girl any more pain. She left a letter explaining in detail how much she cared for Selene even if she did not want to be lovers. She also left the wooden flute she had made as a goodbye gift. With a heavy heart, Alexia returned to the road hoping she would cross paths with Selene one day.

Selene enjoyed her time as an acolyte. The few inhibitions she had left dissolved away and she was certain that should she ever discover the true meaning of love, she could please her would be lover in ways they could never imagine. She became a very skilled cleric and earned a reputation of being open to anything. However, this life had its own troubles.

Although the high priestess was well aware that their dogma supported free will, it didn't bode well to have a promising acolyte that slept with anything that moved. She decided to allow Selene to work at the other temples in the district to give her a better grounding. It was not that uncommon for worshipers of various faiths to visit each others temples and even offer aid. Selene was asked to aid the the House of Luck with the installment of a new statue in honor of their goddess and help with the clean-up afterwards. Selene performed her task well but she didn't realize just how laborious it would be.

During the clean up, she leaned against one of the temple pillars catching her breath. Selene was pulled from her rest by a soft object brushing against her leg. When she looked down, Selene noticed a silvery furred cat gently rubbing against her. When she tried to pick up the cat, it suddenly ran to the newly installed statue of Tymora and began to gently brush up against it as well. The cat then turned its eyes to Selene and the acolyte would swear it was looking into her soul. There was a great sense of intelligence and wisdom behind the creature's expression. If one of the acolytes of Tymora had not called for her, Selene would have stared at the cat forever. She glanced to the voice calling her before turning back to the statue. The cat was no longer there. She approached the statue and realized that the cat had been rubbing against a small chizzling near the base with the words, made in Silverymoon.

Selene felt that this was sign from Sharess herself. The goddess desired for her to journey to Silverymoon. The High Priestess was secretly thrilled to be rid of a scandalist acolyte but she wished Selene luck in her new path.
