Dain Ironskin
Maternal grandson to the great Dwarvish patriarch Fundin Longbeard, Dain was raised and educated as a prince in his grandfather's court. However, upon the succession of his uncle, Ferin Longbeard, to the throne, Dain's family was banished from the kingdom (not only had Dain's mother supported a different brother for the throne, but Dain's popularity with some of the other clan leaders was seen as a threat).
Several years after the Ironskin banishment, Ferin's kingdom was attacked and destroyed by an army of Bugbears. Ferin was killed, his halls looted, and most of his people scattered.
Dain's mother has recently died, and while his father is content to live the life of a successful blacksmith, Dain has determined to gain power and wealth enough to rebuild the kingdom of his grandfather.
