Pepe is the son of a cobbler who made his living making ladies boots. Pepe left home at an early age (mainly to avoid having to follow in his father's footsteps) and found his way to a temple where he trained as a cleric, thinking that clerics should have an easy life being looked after by gods and that all the gods would demand was a bit of worship and prayer occasionally. Unfortunately he fell under the watchful eye of a zealous high priestess who keeps sending him off on adventure missions to earn revenue for the order. This is not much to Pepe's liking, but he has not yet found a way of avoiding it.
