Greetings. I have a few years of experience as both a player and DM in P&P RPGs such as AD&D, Top Secret, and Gamma World, all back in 1982-85 (with a quick revival of AD&D in 1996-97.) I was revived when the likes of Ultima Online and Everquest hit the computer scene, but got turned off by all the OOC behavior that was becoming the norm, especially that *$&%!# shout channel. I have been playing NWN off and on since its release; however, I am relatively new to the full-blown DM-run campaign aspects of it, gravitating to it out of boredom of solo-play local modules and pointless hack-n-slash online persistent worlds -- a good group and DM can add many interesting dimensions to a game.
I am making time in my schedule to get some play time in, get a feel for the way this plays, and see where it takes me. I enjoy a good roleplay oriented game experience, with more creative thinking than straight hack-and-slash-the-goblins approach (if I raid one more Orc cave I'll vomit...) Tricks, traps, puzzles, and NPC trickery are all an integral part of the game experience for me. I enjoy combat, don't get me wrong, but slashing your way through a module gets old. Interesting characters only add to the flavor, and I hope to get that roleplay/character immersion back with a few games under my belt.
As a player, I tend to play rogues or wizards/sorcerers, usually human, occasionaly elf. I usually play in the realm of CG or CN, or possibly NG. Lawful or evil chars just aren't my style. I like to help, play as a team, and generally do good, but, unless I have a great deal of faith in someone's leadership, I won't blindly do as I am told either, especially if it unneccesarily endangers me or others in the group.
