I mainly DM now, though I intend to get back into playing eventually. As a DM, I like extremely low-script modules, convoluted plotlines, and player/world interaction. If you're ever in one of my games, be sure to give me a nice detailed bio or privately send in a personal history, because I'm known to grab player's histories and work them in. Your character has a personal nemesis? Great! I love that. Your character has a cursed gem? Wonderful! I'll make it.
As a player, I like "different" characters with motivations for their individuality. I love the Gnomish Barbarian who got lost in the underdark during a family picnic and wasn't found for fourty years, and I love the Half-Orc Bard, brought up by a band of traveling minstrels when his tribe was slaughtered by an angry group of Elves.
