GateCrash's Details [Statistics Help]
Player Experience Points: 13900

I started playing PnP D&D (Basic & Expert sets) in the early '80's, and had a semi-regular group through high school. I dutifully followed the game's evolution to AD&D ("What do you mean I need to pick a class? I'm an elf!") and into the second edition--I particularly loved The Complete [blank]'s Handbook series. Character creation was and is always my favorite part of any campaign.

Electronically, I remember SSI's Gold Box series with great fondness. Baldur's Gate (I and II) were as revolutionary for me as for everyone else. To this day I've still never made it completely through BGII, though I could probably quote you the escape from Irenicus' dungeon section word for word. Planescape: Torment was the first game that kept me on the edge of my seat, wondering what would happen next.

None of it was quite the same as those nights (and sometimes mornings) sitting around a table with dice, figures, and friends, though, and I've been looking for something to replace that ever since. NWN is my best hope for that, and NWC seems like the best thing to happen to NWN since, well, NWN.

I consider myself a moderate roleplayer, perhaps one or two radial buttons to the right of 0 on the NWC scale. The best and most interesting part of the game to me is still character development, so I have no problem with a combat-free session as long as we're doing interesting things and moving the plot forward. There are forum posts for simple exposition, though, and I think that the online sessions should be used for things that can't be handled via posts--namely, dialogue, exploration, and combat.

This concludes My Book About Me.
