Hail and well met. I can only ascribe my PnP DM'ing exp to this question. (as I am clueless about Scripting *Thrashes BioWareOne repeatedly for their lame scripting "tutorial"*) As a PnP DM I learned rather quickly several key points ; Be organized, don't tear the plastic cover off the new module 5 minutes before the game is scheduled. I am there for the players not visa versus. Taking the above into consideration, players (like small children....small DANGEROUS,CUNNING,EXASPERATING children ;] often don't know what is best for them. I call it the R@R, IE: a BALLANCE between Rewards(in whatever form) and Retribution(in whatever form) must be struck for optimum enjoyment. Also a certain level of secrecy must be maintined between the DM and the Players(ever hear this? "but YOU get to roll from behind that DM Screen!?!"Why can't I?") This also ties in to the "pet player" thing. If u have a fave player and reward him too often or show too much attention(same thing)and start ignoring other players, you will soon have one FANATICAL follower and no others.Be Fair. Another thing I learned is,If you think u got ALL the angles figured out in a particular scenario, battle, module,campaign,whatever...the players WILL prove u wrong. So be Flexible. About disruptive players and people who get kicks oughta ruining other peoples fun....I would give people ONE chance, and let them know it;Then if the assinine behavior continued,I would drop the hammer on them (one of my faves was some kind of nasty Outsider enslaving them on some far away plane and taking,by whatever means, the Charracters Sheet away and holding it in perpetuity) but I have seen that a moderate screening for players will usually keep this from being necessary. Before any module or campaing or PW it's best to let players know what KIND of play they will be getting. IE: The guy who runs ONLY Paladins might not be interested in a Ravensloft Campaign or a Rogues Guild war. Last rule...DM'S make the best AND worst players ;]
